Chapter 203: Blood in her Hands

"Rose, I found it," Daphne said, bending over, "It was right under this tree where we sat on the way there,"

There was no reply from Theo from behind, and when Daphne turned around, she saw that her daughter’s eyes were glowing.

She stood still in her spot, her claws slowly extending out with a predatory aura pouring out of her. Daphne could hear bones and muscles moving and reattaching, but there was no outward difference in her daughter’s body.

Then, Daphne looked up at the Crescent Moon for a second. Transformation cycles don’t usually occur in wolves until a few days before a Full Moon, but it wasn’t so shocking since her daughter had always been a special case.

Daphne didn’t feel the need to put up a shield around her daughter. Just like every other wolf, she thought a gentle approach, like trying to take a wild animal by coming at it slowly would work. And this was her daughter. She had no reason to be scared.

"Rose?" Daphne called softly, approaching her with full calm, "Rose, it’s me. It’s your mother. I’m going to approach you now. It’s alright. It’s just you changing. It’s a big day for you. I’m sorry I didn’t notice sooner-’

But Theo was no longer in control. All she could see was red, all she felt was to channel that murderous focus at something.

It all happened very fast. Her claws extended quite long, ones sharpened to its extreme. She jumped forward, and they sliced through something with precise efficiency.

The next moment, she was standing on the opposite side, and Daphne’s neck was spewing blood, and she was crumbling to the floor.

The transformation cycle was done. It was all finished. Theo’s eyes changed to normal yellow as she sucked in a sharp breath like she’d just been pulled out of water for what seemed like a long time to her.

Her claws changed back to her regular fingers, and she was once again a normal ten-year-old. But as she stood there, she felt different. She felt like something had changed about her. She could hear things more clearly, all her senses were more sharpened than before.

And she felt her wolf stirring in her chest.

It was just like her mother had described.

Excitement erupted in her chest, and she whirled around to tell her mother about the exciting news.

But that smile vanished when she saw a headless body on the ground, blood soaking up the dried leaves around it. And her blood ran cold when she saw that the body was wearing her mother’s exact clothes, and had her mother’s exact appearance.

Her small heart stuttered as she took a forward, approaching the body in disbelief and fear. Not too far sat her mother’s dismembered head, the eyes lifeless and her beautiful red hair soaking up blood.

Little Theo bent over and touched the head, as though that would wake her mother. But when she looked down at her hands, they had soaked up the blood and were dripping down with it.

Her mother’s blood in her hands.

She didn’t talk. She couldn’t. Her throat felt sore and heavy. Only her breath became shallower by the second as she kept staring at the blood.

At the dismembered head and body.

One second her mother was standing there saying her name, and the next...this? No...!

And then, fear crept into her veins. She was panting by now, forcefully sucking more air into her lungs as she reeled back from the sight.

No, this couldn’t be happening.

’You killed her’ A part of her spoke, ’After all, it’s just the two of you here. You see that blood on your hands, it’s all you, Theo’

Theo fell back, quickly scrambling away from the body. Her eyes were filled with horror, and her dress had also soaked up the blood. She was covered in it by now, and panic hit hard.

No...she couldn’t have killed her mother. She had just gained her wolf! This was supposed to be a happy day for her.

But the fear of a ten-year-old won, and her legs moved faster than her brain. She shot out running through the bushes frantically, her mind a land of haze as she struggled to get the directions right.

She avoided everyone once she was out of the narrow path, scared of how they’d look at her if she saw her with so much blood like this.

It was easy to get back home, since the mansion was the biggest in that city and one could see it from a mile away.

Theo didn’t stop for a second.

And when she finally got to the gates of the house, she tried to sneak in, but she crashed into someone standing there.

She didn’t sense him. He had probably cancelled out his presence for a reason.

She stumbled back and hit the ground again, and when she looked up, her father was staring down at her with the same horror she had in her eyes when she had first looked down and seen blood on her hands.

Her father had sniffed her mother’s blood all over her. He had seen it.

And he knew.

He might not have known exactly what happened, but he knew she was responsible.

Darius grabbed his daughter by the collar, and in a flash, she felt herself falling into a tub of water, and him slamming the door closed.

The fear of her father knowing.

The fear she had killed her mother.

Maybe that was the moment her body had chosen to protect her fragile heart, and snuffed the memories somewhere she couldn’t be able to remember so easily.

Her body...had automatically helped her?! That’s odd.

The last thing Theo recalled was the delivery. Her mother’s body without a head. That was the exact moment the true neglect had begun from her father. And by then, she had already forgotten everything.

Theodora gasped loudly, pushing herself to a sitting position. She looked around her - her bedroom in Cain’s castle - and then palmed her aching head.

It was a dream. She dreamt about exactly what happened that night.

As she climbed out of bed to use the bathroom, she noticed her bracelet was gone. Her wrists were empty. Cain had taken it off the moment she had fallen asleep for the first time since she arrived here.

Wait. Did she really fall asleep in his arms?!

*Hey,*

Theo ignored and continued to the bathroom. She finished washing her face and looked at the mirror. She’d only slept for a few hours, and her eyes were still swollen and her overall appearance looked terrible.

*Theo,*

Then, she looked down at the ring. Whatever kind of ruin Cain had infused into this ring allowed it to tighten around her fingers whenever she tried to take it off. She would have to cut off the finger if she wanted it off.

*Theo, please talk to me,*

Theo took her bath and changed her clothes. By the time she stepped out, someone was knocking on her door.

She answered the door, and a servant stood at the other end.

"Luna,"

"Is there a problem?"

"The Alpha has requested that you have dinner with him from now on,"

Dinner with Cain?

"No, thank you," She tried to close the door.

The servant trembled, "Please, Luna, I can’t tell him you said that," She looked up at Theo, her small eyes begging, "Please, come down and have dinner with him,"

"Fine, you can go now. I’ll be down in a minute,"

Theo closed the door and leaned back on it with a sigh.

*Please, say something. Please, talk to me,*

After some time, she opened the door again and left the room.

The servant was still standing outside, waiting to escort her to the dining room.

"Let’s go," She said.
