THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 375: Who’s Killian?
That was exactly the reaction they were all expecting but what they didn’t know was whether he would rise to the challenge or decide to ignore their little game with the excuse of working tonight.
Besides, he had been so busy lately and they didn’t know whether it was because of that vixen or work related.
"You heard me right, Steffan, but if you’re so worried about my feelings as the good brother that you are, I might as well ask Lauren to get one of her male friends... I seem to remember one particularly handsome one that I met the other day when we dined out."
"What was his name again?" Candace’s brows bumped together in a thoughtful frown.
"Yeah, I remember now... George Wellington. And I also recall he was the same man introduced earlier as the new president of Café Royale."
"Such a charming young man with such an intimidating background... I’m sure our Lauren will be well taken care of by him," her husband added casually.
"Wouldn’t it be nice if Lauren falls in love with him? They will make the perfect couple if you ask me and their children will be gorgeously beautiful," Candace said with a faraway look.
Lauren was speechless. What’s with this husband and wife pair today? Do they want their brother to vomit bile with so much teasing? But if that’s what it would take for Steffan to realize her position in his heart then she was in on the game, after all they were doing all this for her.
"I think Candace is right. Why didn’t I think of George in the first place? Just a victory and I’m beginning to forget the important people around me," Lauren reprimanded herself and fished out her phone from her bag.
"Don’t you dare call him in my presence!" Steffan ordered to everyone’s astonishment and grabbed Lauren’s hand that was still hovering over her phone screen.
Why is no one considering him? He was right there before their eyes yet they had to project another man just because he was the president of a damn coffee company. How does that make him, Steffan Rosse, inferior to George?
Have they forgotten that he was still single or do they think he was not good enough for Lauren just because she won a competition?
He was one of the best surgeons in the country for crying out loud, and he wasn’t going to allow anyone step all over him just because he lost his memory.
Besides, he knew he had feelings for Lauren and was sure Lauren felt the same about him too despite all the pranks she’s been playing on him.
He has come to realize that they were more than mere acquaintances in the past but he was yet to place a hand on how close they were.
So he wasn’t going to let her spend the entire night in the company of a man who would clearly take advantage of her in the name of a dinner date.
"But why? He is the only single man around me who is not committed to anyone and since you’re afraid I’ll break your brother’s home, I had better go for someone who is free. Besides, he likes me so much and would be too pleased to be my date," Lauren said with a helpless sigh.
"I’m going with you!" Steffan stated authoritatively as if it was the normal thing to do and even little Danny was shocked at the look on his usually gentle uncle’s face.
His eyes darted from Lauren to his parents who seemed to be happy for reasons he didn’t understand and back to his uncle, Steffan.
"But you’re very busy and should be working at the hospital tonight," Sarah pointed out.
"Mom? When did I say I was going to work tonight?" Steffan demanded angrily. Even his mother had joined others in sidelining him.
"It’s okay mom, since he is asking so pathetically, I’ll manage him for the night. That’s if his girlfriend doesn’t mind, of course," Lauren said sarcastically.
Steffan’s face was as dark as the bottom of a charred pot as he glared at Lauren who was bent on angering him to death.
He wanted to drag her out of the hall and shut her annoying mouth with a fierce kiss that would leave her breathless as punishment, but today was her special day and he dared not act recklessly, especially with the reporters still hanging around the building for any form of juicy gossip.
But if she kept pressing his buttons the way she was currently doing, there was no guarantee he wouldn’t lose his mind.
Although he knew she was doing it on purpose, somehow he had started developing a strange repulsion towards Dolly because of Lauren constantly referring to her as his girlfriend.
Dolly had been friends with him for so many years but the idea of her being his girlfriend was nauseating and he couldn’t bring himself to think of it, not even for a second.
And even though he had spent most of his time in the hospital in the past few days, he had made sure to avoid Dolly whenever she came looking for him.
"You know best if I have a girlfriend or not," he said eventually.
"Where is Killian? I saw him around during the program," Stanley asked with the intention of dousing the fire between the couple.
"He must have left. It’s even a miracle he came around today," Lauren said with an affectionate smile which did not fail to send the wrong signal to Steffan.
Who was this new character again? Why are they all after the only woman he had ever felt something for?
"Who’s Killian?" He couldn’t resist asking.
"Someone very dear to me," Lauren answered before Sarah would reveal that Killian was her brother. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Humph!" You seemed to be more capable than I thought," he sneered.
Lauren shook her head. "I don’t understand you anymore. Why are you suddenly so jealous of every man around me?"
"I’m not jealous, besides you have never seemed to understand me," Steffan retorted.
"Can we all go home now?" Danny asked. He could see that his uncle was becoming more grumpier by the minute and he didn’t like the way he was always arguing with his very very special Aunt Lauren.
At this rate, when will he make Aunty Lauren come home and be his true Aunty?
"Yeah, I also think it’s time to leave," Stanley said and took his wife’s hand.
Catching onto Stanley’s cue, David gestured to Lauren and Steffan. "I think they have something to talk about," he said and took Sarah’s hand and the two couples left the hall.
An eerie silence settled around Lauren and Steffan as they were now left to themselves.
"You don’t seem to be happy with me," Steffan said, breaking the silence.
Lauren was taken aback by the strange question and her slender brow rose in a questioning arc. "And why would you think so?"
"I don’t think so, I can see it clearly. You’d rather be with other men aside from me, why?" He asked with a forlorn expression that tugged at Lauren’s heartstrings.
