The Forsaken Heir's Ascension-Chapter 152- Claws and Warmth
Chapter 152: 152- Claws and Warmth
The injured Yeti howled in fury. But before Alex could react further, the second Yeti swiped its clawed hand straight toward Selene—who was still lying with her eyes closed, unaware.
Alex’s eyes widened in horror.Black lightning exploded through his body.
In a flash, he moved—like lightning. He threw himself in front of Selene, shielding her with his own body, wrapping his arms around her once again.
Screech!Squelch!
The Yeti’s claws slashed across Alex’s back.A muffled groan escaped his lips as fresh blood dripped onto the ice.
Selene’s pale blue eyes flew open—Her gaze locked on Alex’s face, contorted in pain, his eyes tightly shut in grimace.
She tilted her head slightly and saw the monster coming again.
SNARL!Hati lunged—His jaws clamped around the Yeti’s arm mid-swing, halting its attack.
Alex exhaled shakily, opening his eyes.He looked down at Selene. She stared up at him—Her eyes wide, shimmering with unshed tears.
Alex stood up slowly, his body trembling, but his eyes burned with fury.He turned to face the remaining monsters—growling.
Dark elemental energy erupted behind him, forming the faint shadow of a dragon.Tendrils of darkness twisted into hundreds of small, razor-sharp daggers, hovering like a deadly storm.
With a wave of his hand—Swoosh! Swoosh!Thuck! Thuck! Thuck!
Two Yeti monsters dropped instantly, their skulls impaled. Their massive bodies thudded against the icy floor.
Alex staggered forward, his legs unsteady, but his rage unwavering. His eyes glowed like twin dark stars.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Two more Yetis fell, their skulls pierced with unerring precision.
The last monster froze. Its glowing blue eyes widened in fear. Then it turned and ran.
But the daggers followed—Thuck! Thuck! Thuck!
The Yeti crashed to the ice with a bone-crunching thud.
Alex let out a pained groan—then collapsed face-first into the snow.
Selene jolted from her daze and sprinted to him.Hans and Hook followed, their faces pale with shock.
Selene turned to them, furious."What were you doing?! You’re seniors! You couldn’t even handle a few Yetis? They were just C-rank!"
Hans scratched his head, avoiding her gaze."Eh... sorry, Princess. But, uh... we’re scouts... so, eh... not that strong..."
Hook nodded sheepishly beside him.
Hati padded over to Alex and licked his cheek, letting out a soft bark.He turned to Selene with a gentle growl.
Tears rolled down her cheeks. She nodded. "Yes... I know he’ll be okay."Hati gave a low woof of agreement.
Hook looked around anxiously. "We should move. That fight will attract more monsters. We’ll carry him if we need to."
But then—A warm, golden-green glow began to surround Alex’s wounds. The claw marks along his back shimmered as the energy mended the flesh with visible speed.
Alex groaned and shifted. He pushed himself up slowly, snow clinging to his face and hair.He looked around, piecing together what had happened. Then he met Selene’s gaze and gave a faint nod."Let’s get out of here."
Through the dark, they moved. With zero visibility, wind howled, freezing their breaths. Hans and Hook led the way, guiding Alex and Selene through winding, snow-covered paths, navigating the terrain like someone who had walked these lands a thousand times.
They moved slowly in a line—Selene held Alex’s hand gently in hers, Alex held onto Hook’s two-fingered hand, and Hook grasped Hans’ hand at the back, ensuring no one got lost in the blinding white.
Each step was quiet, light—thanks to everyone using the technique Ice Steps.
Gradually, the darkness faded. The sun rose, stretching golden fingers across the snowy horizon, bathing the mountains in warmth.
They paused, watching as the veil of night lifted and the storm’s howling winds died into silence—like nature itself was bowing before the sun.
Hans and Hook both exhaled in relief, turning to look at Alex and Selene—still holding hands, faces bathed in golden light.
With a playful grin, Hook said, "Snowstorm’s stopped—at least for now. Let’s find a good spot and enjoy a warm breakfast."
Selene’s cheeks flushed, but she didn’t let go.Nor did Alex.
Selene’s mind raced faster than a lightning bolt. What am I doing? I’m holding Alex’s hand like we’re... lovers. No, we’re not! But still... we’re holding hands. She stole a glance at him, then quickly looked away.Isn’t he going to pull away? But he’s not... Why?Another peek—this time, her pale blue eyes shimmered with soft shyness.
Unaware of her inner turmoil, Alex was having his own internal war.
Inside his mind:White Alex puffed out his chest. "We’re holding a goddess’s hand! Look at us!"Black Alex stood with arms crossed, replying in a thoughtful voice, "It’s just the situation. Nothing more."White Alex rolled his eyes. "What do you know? She hasn’t let go. Look—no storm, no danger—she’s still holding our hand. She likes us."Black Alex muttered, "Why would she like a commoner? We’re just a nobody the world hates."
Back to reality:Alex turned his head toward Selene. She turned at the same moment.
Their eyes met—pale blue and glowing purple. For a heartbeat, the world stood still.
Then—"Eh! We found the place!" Hans shouted.
The moment shattered. They let go of each other’s hands awkwardly and walked toward the others.
Ahead was a small hill with a dry patch of rocky ground at its base. Snow-covered trees surrounded it like skeletal sentinels.Hans and Hook were already seated. They had arranged a ring of stones to build a fire pit.
Hans stood up and wandered off to collect firewood.Alex and Selene sat side by side under the hill’s overhang.
A few minutes later—Thud!Hans dropped the bundle of dry wood near the circle of stones and plopped down with a grin."We’re lucky I found dry wood," he said cheerfully.
Hook nodded and quickly got to work. After a few smoky seconds, the fire caught, crackling and spreading warmth into the quiet, frosty air.
From his spatial ring, Hook pulled out a simple iron pan and placed it over the flames, letting it heat.Alex approached the fire, Selene following silently behind him. He crouched and warmed his hands, then looked at Hook."What are you cooking?" he asked.
Before Hook could answer, Hans chimed in with a grin, "Eh, we’ve got some meat we picked up from town. It’s delicious—eh, really good!"
Alex smiled and replied, "I have some, too. Preserved and marinated by one of the Academy’s top chefs—should be even better."
Hans and Hook froze. Then, like synchronized puppets, they stood, sat on either side of Alex, and each grabbed one of his hands. In unison, they said with wide eyes, "It must be amazing! Let’s eat that instead!"
Alex chuckled. "Alright, alright. I’ll take care of the cooking. You two bring me some plates or anything clean to serve the steaks on."
Both of them nodded eagerly, like excited children, and rushed off.
Alex walked over to the fire, pulled out a steel bowl from his spatial ring, and set it down beside the pan. Once the pan was hot, he took out six thick, marinated steaks and placed them side by side with practiced hands.
Ssssss—The satisfying sizzle of searing meat filled the air, and fragrant smoke began to rise.
