The Forsaken Heir's Ascension-Chapter 151- Ambush Beneath the Snow
Chapter 151: 151- Ambush Beneath the Snow
Alex and Selene both nodded and followed behind Hans and Hook, moving smoothly with their newly learned Ice Steps.Hati followed silently, a shadow in the snow. The wolf’s ears twitched with every sound, more alert than the humans ahead of him.
They soon reached the base of a towering mountain. Its jagged icy edges cut into the sky, disappearing above the clouds. Near one side, frost-covered trees clung to the slope, their branches heavy with snow.
Hook pointed and said in a low voice, "Avoid the trees. A little shake and all that snow could bury you alive."
They kept walking, searching.Nothing.No tracks. No monster signs. No broken trees or blood trails. The ice was untouched. Pristine.Which was... unusual.
As the dim light faded and night crept in, silence wrapped around them like a blanket. Only the rustle of branches and the eerie howl of the wind accompanied them.
Hans pulled out a yellow gem and held it up. A warm golden glow spread out from it, casting flickering light on the frozen ground. He leaned close to Hook, whispering, "Eh, Hook. Let’s rest here for the night, eh?"Hook nodded, waved his hand, and a dome of ice materialized in front of them—an igloo, perfectly shaped.
Alex and Selene’s eyes widened. They hadn’t expected shelter creation to be that simple.
All of them crawled in through a narrow opening. Hook sealed it behind them. Inside, the yellow stone’s glow made the dome feel surprisingly cozy. There was no need for a fire.
Alex, always curious, pointed at the glowing stone."What are these stones? I’ve seen them everywhere—green, blue, yellow... each one seems different."
Hans laughed, his shaggy beard bouncing."Eh Hook, did you hear what he asked? Eh?"Hook chuckled beside him."I heard. Good God, he really doesn’t know."
Selene smirked, amused but silent. She already knew Alex was clueless about many practical things.Alex scratched his white hair awkwardly and gave an embarrassed grin. They all burst into laughter.Hati growled softly, unimpressed.Hans raised both hands quickly."Eh, I surrender, mighty wolf!"Hook, raising his two-fingered hand in mock salute, made a little hook-shape and grinned.
"Alright, alright. Let me enlighten you about the noble ’garbage’ we call light stones."
Alex leaned in, his curiosity piqued."These light stones—or elemental scraps—are byproducts found in elemental stone mines. Normal elemental stones are used for cultivation and forging. But these glowing ones?"He pointed at the yellow stone."They’re leftovers. Trash. A good kind of trash."
Everyone chuckled."Each color is tied to a different element. This yellow one comes from Fire-element mines. The blue ones are found in Ice-element mines. And the green ones—those are rare now. They used to be everywhere, from Wood-element mines. Not anymore."
Alex blinked."But I’ve seen green ones at the academy."
Hans and Hook exchanged a smile. Before either could speak, Selene replied, "The Academy is over a thousand years old—maybe even older. So, they’ve probably been here for just as long."Alex nodded, relaxing. So that’s how it is, he thought.
Hans and Hook pulled out black sleeping bags and tossed one to each person.Selene caught hers, opened it, and slipped inside—curling up far from the others. She wrapped herself tightly, covering her entire body.Alex glanced at Hati, who came along quietly and slithered into his own sleeping bag.
Alex lay down with his face exposed, gazing up at the smooth curve of the dome. Exhausted from the day’s events, he drifted off quickly.
Outside, between jagged icy mountains cloaked in darkness, a cold wind howled as snow blew across the land.A lone igloo stood silently, its smooth surface slowly gathering layers of frost and ice.
As the night deepened, the stillness was shattered—Growls and snarls echoed in the dark.Five pairs of glowing blue eyes appeared at the edge of the snowy slope.Their fur shimmered like moonlight on snow, blending eerily with the landscape.
With soft crunches underfoot, the creatures padded toward the igloo. They sniffed the air—And hissed,As the scent of humans hit their noses.Drool dripped from their jaws.Their pace quickened. They closed in.
Inside the igloo,Hati’s eyes snapped open.He lifted his head, ears twitching—Then scanned the interior of the igloo, alert. Then Hati’s gray and purple eyes locked onto the wall—the side from which the monsters approached.A low growl rumbled from his throat.
Alex’s eyes blinked open. He turned his head and saw Hati staring at the right wall of the igloo, growling.Alex shot upright, alert. He whispered, "Are you sure?"Hati turned toward him and nodded silently.
"Let’s wake them up—slowly," Alex said under his breath.Without a sound, Hati padded over to Hans and Hook. He grabbed their sleeping bags and dragged them gently across the floor of the igloo.
The two stirred, eyes snapping open as they unzipped the bags, glaring at Hati with narrowed, confused expressions. But before tension could rise, Alex’s whisper came from behind, steady and urgent:"Monsters are approaching—from the right side."
Instantly, both Hans and Hook tensed.Alex moved quietly toward Selene. As he unzipped her sleeping bag, his breath caught in his throat. She lay peacefully, like an angel wrapped in moonlight. Strands of silver hair brushed across her soft, closed eyelids. Her lips were red and slightly parted, her cheeks smooth and tender. He stared for a moment, frozen— freewebnσvel.cøm
Boom!Boom! The ground trembled.A deep rumble filled the air.
Five ice Yetis emerged into the dim yellow glow of the igloo’s enchanted light.Their soft white fur gleamed, in stark contrast to their long, dark, clawed hands, sharp black ears, and glowing blue eyes that pierced the darkness.
Hans and Hook jumped into position, conjuring shields—one of ice, the other of compressed air. The first blow came, and the barriers barely held under the monstrous force.Hati growled, ready to pounce.
Alex, shaken from his trance by the tremor and chaos, dropped down instinctively, shielding Selene with his body.He wrapped his arms around her, pressing her face gently into his chest—Selene’s eyes snapped open at the sound—but all she saw was darkness... and the familiar scent of someone close.
Alex stared past her, eyes wide as he looked toward the monsters.Selene didn’t stir. She stayed quiet, pressed gently against the warm, muscular chest she recognized. Her cheeks flushed. Her heart pounded faster, but she remained still—caught between sleep and waking dreams.
Hans and Hook were struggling, barely holding back two of the monstrous Yetis. But more burst through behind them, overwhelming their defences. One of the creatures—an enormous ice Yeti—charged toward Alex and Selene.
Alex gently moved Selene aside and rose to his feet, his gaze firm and focused.Selene’s eyes were still shut, lost in the remnants of her dream.
Two Yetis lunged.Alex drew his weapon—a B-rank Emerald Spear.Shlung!Black lightning surged along its shaft as he thrust it forward. The first Yeti reeled, caught off guard, and raised its thick arms just in time to shield its face from a fatal blow.
Squelch!Warm blood spilled onto the cold ice.Alex yanked the spear free.ROARRR!
