The Forsaken Heir's Ascension-Chapter 157- Frozen Hell
Chapter 157: 157- Frozen Hell
Frozen Hell was no mere region—it was vast, a landmass comparable to a continent.
It had several zones: freёweɓnovel_com
• At its heart rose ice mountains, thickly crowded and so tall they seemed to touch the skies.
• Surrounding the mountains was a barren snowfield—flat, empty, like a white desert. Here, avalanches swept the land like sandstorms, and only the most tenacious monsters crossed it.
• Beyond the plain was the Frozen Dark Forest—an impossibly dense woodland where trees, sheathed in ice and snow, clustered together so tightly that even sunlight rarely passed through.
• And farthest out lay the outskirts, where mountains and forest mingled. It was here that the highest concentration of monsters thrived.
Far beyond the outskirts stood the formidable Ice Fort City, surrounded by a wall as tall as a mountain and thicker than one.Ice Fort was the first line of defense to the west of Ice Phoenix City—a brutal stronghold stationed at the cruelest frontline of them all.
Deep inside the city walls, a circular chamber sat dimly lit, its light coming from warm yellow stones embedded into the icy walls. At the center of the chamber stood a round marble-like table, its surface fused to the floor like a natural part of the chamber. Around it, several wooden chairs stood ready—waiting for the war council to begin. On the wooden chairs arranged around the chamber, several figures sat in silence, all dressed in sky-blue uniforms. A little apart from the rest sat Marshal Sebeth, her crystal badge shimmering softly in the faint golden light.
The five Junior Marshals seated around her each exuded the faint aura of a Pseudo Saint—a testament to their strength. All but one were women. The lone male among them was a lanky man, with a cold aura, long black hair, and a sharp, elongated face. He sat quietly near Marshal Sebeth.Sebeth’s piercing eyes moved from one face to another before she spoke, her voice steady and solemn.
"As you all know by now, we’re facing a greater threat than expected. A draconic humanoid monster—Sage-level—has appeared."
A wave of grim understanding passed through the room as they nodded in silence. The man near Sebeth leaned forward slightly."Marshal, please forgive my impertinence... but—are we certain?"
Marshal Sebeth responded with calm finality, her tone firm and unshaken."I saw it myself. From afar, but clearly. The confirmation also came from our scouts—Hans and Hook. They barely made it back alive."
A gasp came from one of the women. She leaned forward, worry etched on her face."Is Princess Selene okay?"Sebeth turned toward her and offered a small, reassuring smile."Yes, Elena. She’s safe and currently resting."
She then looked around the chamber again, her gaze serious."Prepare for war. I expect a second wave—and it’ll be far stronger than what we just faced."
Everyone nodded, standing up as one. With a hand over their chests, they bowed slightly to the Marshal before exiting the chamber in solemn silence. As the last one left, Sebeth slumped back into her chair, her eyes closing as she leaned her head against the backrest.A whisper escaped her lips.
"I thought Sel would have a chance to learn in peace... but it seems fate has other plans."
A defeated sigh followed her words.
Knock. Knock.
Alex woke up groggily from his sleep and shuffled toward the door.As he opened it, Selene stood outside—cheerful, radiant as always. She asked loudly with a wide smile,"Are you still sleeping? Let’s go have breakfast at the cafeteria!"Alex yawned and replied in a hoarse, thick voice,"Is it already morning?"
Selene rolled her eyes, crossing her arms."Yes! Hurry up!"Alex yawned again and moved back inside the room, closing the door behind him with a single word:"Okay."
A little later, the door opened again. Alex stepped into the narrow corridor, followed closely by Hati.Selene smiled and gave a nod.Together, they made their way outside, Selene leading the way.Around them, the fort buzzed with activity. Soldiers ran back and forth—some preparing arrows, others checking shields and swords. The tension from the day before still lingered in the air.Soldiers on the watchtowers stood at full attention.
They walked along the wide path atop the walls, passing several small huts built into the structure—just like theirs.Eventually, they came across a hut with a large signboard hanging above its door.In shimmering blue letters against a black background, it read:CAFETERIA
Selene turned toward Alex with a smile."Let’s go."
They stepped inside and descended the staircase. At the bottom, a steel door stood. They opened it—and were immediately greeted by hot air mixed with delicious aromas.Their eyes widened as they looked around the large, circular hall, filled with soldiers seated at long tables, the clatter of dishes echoing all around. At the far end stood a serving counter with a kitchen board above it.
Selene stepped toward the counter. Alex and Hati followed. From the far corner of the cafeteria, Bane spotted Selene and stood up, rushing over.
At the counter, an old man behind the counter welcomed them with a warm smile."Are you new here?" he asked kindly.
Selene nodded."Yes, we just arrived. Can we get something good for breakfast—and for the wolf too?"She pointed at Hati.
The man nodded, still smiling."I’ll bring out the special ones."
Just then, Bane called out loudly:"Selene!"
Selene turned toward him, and so did Alex and Hati.Alex frowned slightly but said nothing.Selene’s smile vanished, her voice turning flat."Hello, Bane."
Bane smiled confidently as he closed the distance—cutting between Alex and Selene."How are you? When did you arrive? Where are you staying?" he asked rapidly.
Still flatly, Selene replied,"Fine. Two days ago."
She subtly moved back to create some distance, but Bane stepped closer again.Alex sighed. He calmly placed a hand on Bane’s shoulder.
Bane snapped back, eyes narrowing, and growled,"Did you not see we’re talking?! Remove your hand."
Alex didn’t flinch. He replied flatly,"No. You’re talking. Selene’s not. And you’re disturbing us. Please leave."
Just then, the old chef returned, overhearing the words. His cheerful face turned stern, his eyes narrowing as he watched the exchange.
Bane growled louder."How dare you?! Do you know who I am?"
Alex shook his head."No, and I don’t care. Please don’t disturb us. We just want to have breakfast in peace."
The old man behind the counter chuckled and placed two trays on the table."White Soldier Bane," he said calmly, "please leave them alone—or one more complaint to the Marshal might make your life much harder."
Bane clenched his fists and glared at Alex.He turned around, leaving behind a warning through gritted teeth:"I’ll see you later."
The old chef sighed."Come on, take your food. It’ll get cold."
Selene turned to the old man and smiled."Thanks."She took one tray, and Alex grabbed the other.
Before they left the counter, the old chef spoke again,"Be careful. Bane’s the spoiled kid of a Great Elder."
Alex looked back at the old man and gave a short nod. They found an empty table near the counter. It was a smooth, marble-topped surface surrounded by simple wooden chairs. They sat down.
