The Forsaken Heir's Ascension-Chapter 159: White Wyverns Under the Moon
Chapter 159: White Wyverns Under the Moon
Next Morning
As Alex woke up, memories of last night flashed through his mind, and an involuntary smile crept onto his face. He got up and stepped outside. Selene was already standing in the corridor.
When she saw him, she smiled and walked over.
"Good morning, Alex!"
A blooming smile spread across his face.
"Good morning, Selene."
Alex followed her toward the stairs, while Hati trailed behind them, his eyes filled with silent annoyance.
On their way back from breakfast, they ran into Marshal Sebeth.
She smiled at them. "From now on, you two will be acting as White Rank soldiers. Alex, you’ll go with Hans and Hook to the town and collect more arrows from the townsfolk."
Then she turned to Selene, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Sel, you’re coming with me."
Selene’s eyes widened in surprise, but she gave a small nod.
"Goodbye, Alex. See you later."
Alex nodded back with a warm smile. freeweɓnøvel~com
He made his way along the wall toward a nearby watchtower, where he spotted Hans and Hook leaning against a barricaded wall, looking like a pair of drunkards.
Approaching them, Alex called out, "Hans, Hook—Marshal gave us a chore."
Hans lifted his head and straightened up with a grin.
"Eh, yes, we know, Hero. Let’s head into town. It’ll be fun, eh?"
Hook got to his feet, nodding along. "Yeah, let’s go."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, far from the fortress wall, in the heart of the Frozen Hell, monsters gathered beneath the mountain.
High above, Nerzalia hovered in the sky, looking down from her icy platform. A sharp-toothed smile played on her lips as more creatures emerged from the shadows.
Packs of Frost Wolves assembled, their heads crowned with jagged horns of ice. Beside them stood three towering Wyverns—beasts with pale, white-scaled bodies, blue crystalline spikes jutting from their backs, and wings stretched wide with translucent white membranes. Their glowing blue draconic eyes shimmered with hunger as they growled, eager for the coming feast.
Yeti. Frost Tooth. Frost Bears. Frost Wolves. White Wyverns.
All began to move as the full moon climbed the night sky, casting a cold silver light over the snow-covered plains.
The monster horde surged forward like a natural disaster—unstoppable and unfeeling.
Above them, the White Wyverns took flight, leading the charge toward the Wall.
Nerzalia’s smile widened.
"This is my first attack on a human city," she murmured. "I want it to begin with victory."
With a powerful flap of her wings, she shot higher into the sky, trailing icy wind in her wake.
She circled once, silhouetted against the full moon, her gaze fixed on the human stronghold.
Rumble.Roar.Growls.
Under the pale moonlight, the army of monsters advanced toward the human city.
In the City...
Alex, Hans, and Hook had filled their spatial rings to the brim with arrows and were heading back to the wall as night settled in.
But something felt off.
Alex grew restless. A deep unease gnawed at him—his instincts screamed that something was coming. Hati was equally tense, circling in agitation, ears twitching, eyes scanning every shadow.
Alex picked up his pace.
The lift creaked and groaned as it carried them up toward the wall.
Then—
DING. DING. DING. DING.
A warning bell rang out from one of the watchtowers.
Another bell answered a moment later.
And then another.
Soon, alarms echoed from every side of the fortress wall.
Hans and Hook tensed, their eyes wide with dread.
As the lift reached the top, chaos awaited them.
White-ranked soldiers rushed to their posts, gathering weapons and equipment. Archers manned the barricades, while Ice Lancers in gleaming golden-blue uniforms assembled in formation.
Alex dashed to the wall and peered out across the frozen wasteland.
In the distance, under the pale moonlight, a massive wave of white mist surged toward them.
But it wasn’t just mist.
High above, silhouetted against the full moon, flew the unmistakable figure of a humanoid dragoness—Nerzalia. Her dark wings spread wide, eyes gleaming like frozen stars. Behind her, three White Wyverns followed in formation.
They were coming.
And their only target... was the human city.
Alex’s gaze flicked toward the White-ranked soldiers. The lowest ranks trembled. Even the elite Ice Lancers, despite their polished armor and disciplined stance, were pale and visibly shaken.
Still, no one ran.
The fog of breath, the clatter of weapons, the crack of boots on ice—tension hung heavy in the air.
Alex moved swiftly, delivering the arrows to where they were most needed, then took position near the archers.
Closer.The enemy drew closer.
Marshal Sebeth’s voice boomed across the wall like thunder.
"Everyone—I know you’re afraid. I am too. But my greatest fear is this—if we fall here today, the people behind us will become food for monsters. This is the Eternal War!"
She paused, letting the silence grip the air.
Then she roared, her voice rising like a battle cry itself.
"WE ARE FIGHTING AGAINST DESTINY—BUT WE WILL WIN! WE DEFEATED MYTHICAL BEASTS BEFORE, AND WE WILL DEFEAT THESE MONSTERS TOO!"
"YEAHHHHHH!"
The wall exploded with a unified war cry. It thundered like a battle drum, tearing through the night sky.
Alex raised his spear, heart pounding, and whispered to himself,
"Yes... we’re fighting against destiny."
His eyes narrowed as he locked onto the three White Wyverns soaring toward them, gliding like they owned the sky.
"If I want to shift this battle..." he muttered, "I have to take one of them down."
He glanced at his spear—then back at the approaching wyverns.
"I know I’m crazy."
He scanned the area and spotted Hati, alert and growling.
Alex approached him quickly and bent down, whispering into his ear.
Hati growled, stepped back, and shook his head furiously.
"Please, Hati," Alex urged, his voice low and urgent. "This could give us a huge advantage—and no one will notice us in the chaos."
Hati’s glowing eyes narrowed in thought. After a tense pause, he gave a reluctant nod.
Alex smiled and moved to stand beside him.
The ground began to tremble.
Marshal Sebeth’s command thundered across the wall:
"Archers, attack! Ice Lancers, attack!"
Sword in hand, she stood tall atop the watchtower, her blue armor gleaming under the moonlight as she roared her orders.
A storm of arrows whistled through the sky, thinning the ranks of weaker monsters.
Moments later, spears of ice followed, raining down like frozen death. The icy barrage shattered monsters below C-rank, piercing them with chilling precision.
But it wasn’t enough.
The horde surged forward.
Monsters reached the base of the wall and began leaping upward, using frost elemental energy as footholds in midair.
Boom!GRRRR!
Frost Tooth landed first, claws slamming into the stone.
One after another, monsters scaled the wall, leaping and roaring—chaos erupted.
Screams echoed through the night. Steel clashed. Blood flowed like a river.
Alex’s eyes stayed locked on the sky.
A White Wyvern flew dangerously close, breathing icy frost across the barricades. Soldiers froze in place—some literally.
And high above them all...
Nerzalia.
Floating in the air, wings outstretched, watching like a silver goddess of death, framed by the full moon.
Alex looked at Hati.
They shared a glance.
A nod.
Purple light wrapped around them.
Then—they vanished.
In a flash, Alex and Hati reappeared mid-air, directly above the unsuspecting wyvern.
They began to fall.
Alex gripped Hati tightly with one hand and raised the other. Shadow daggers shimmered into existence, swirling with dark energy.
With a flick of his hand—
Squelch!Squelch!Squelch!
The daggers struck true, piercing the wyvern’s glowing eyes and vanishing into shadow. The beast let out a blood-curdling roar, flailing as dark poison surged through its veins.
Another flash of purple light.
Alex and Hati reappeared on the wall, crashing down with a thud. Alex gasped, like a man breaking the surface after nearly drowning. Hati snarled at him, frustrated but unharmed.
And then—
Boom!
The wyvern’s corpse slammed into the icy ground below.
RUMBLE.
Everything went still.
Soldiers froze. Eyes widened.
A wyvern... had been taken down.
By a single strike.
But high in the sky, Nerzalia smiled. Her glowing eyes locked onto Alex, collapsed and panting on the cold stone.
Alex felt it instantly.
A chill deeper than the frost.
