The game has become a real alternate world-Chapter 838 - 520: Northern Passage
"Fire!"
With the command given, countless fireballs suddenly erupted above the valley, falling like meteors and instantly turning the valley below into a sea of fire. Amidst the flames came a piercing squeaking sound, as if countless rats were struggling in agony.
Outside the flames, the soldiers of the United Army gripped their weapons firmly, poised for action.
With cold eyes, they watched those burning fireballs rushing out of the inferno. Screaming, the fireballs crashed into the tips of the spears, eventually turning into ashes.
"These rats are trapped now! Second and third rapid response units, advance to the River Source Battlefield immediately!" The commander's voice echoed through the valley.
With the order given, some mounted soldiers of the United Army and Night Watchers swiftly broke away from the battlefield and galloped towards the distance.
"The rest of you, sprinkle the Holy Water! Let these foul-smelling rats turn to ashes in the sacred flames!" The commander said coldly.
As the Holy Water was scattered, the roaring flames were tinged with a layer of pure white brilliance. Amidst the heat came a hint of divine aura, as if even the air was purified.
Watching the spreading fire below and the struggling rats within the flames, the commander sat wearily on a rock, rubbed his brow, and sighed deeply: "After so much time, we've finally lured the main force of these rats into the trap..."
The deputy sighed too, helplessly: "Who says not? Our third breakthrough army was dragged for over half a month by these two rat legions. Although the rats outnumber us tenfold, we used to defeat them one on ten, driving them into a rout."
The commander forced a smile: "Indeed, during the winter we thought we could make a big push after spring, but now it's almost two months with virtually no progress. The rats are advancing too, their legion tactics growing more mature, the battles becoming harder."
The deputy nodded agreeing: "This war might not end in one or two years. Our vendetta... will have to wait a bit longer."
The commander was silent for a moment, then suddenly lifted his head: "However, haven't the Night Watcher's direct troops already punched a passage up north? I've heard they're building a large defense line in the Northern Mountain Range. Even though we don't know their goal, it's good news nonetheless."
The deputy smiled: "Yeah, at least the Night Watchers can still bring us hope. After this campaign, I'm planning to apply to join the Night Watchers, how about you?"
The commander nodded without hesitation: "I have the same plan. But I've heard the recruitment conditions for Night Watchers are becoming more demanding, you better work hard."
The deputy shrugged helplessly: "I wish, but whether they recruit me is uncertain. Whereas you shouldn't have any trouble. As for me, I'll just have to try harder."
The two exchanged smiles, but both knew, who in the United Army doesn't want to join the Night Watchers? But the threshold for Night Watchers is growing higher, many regret missing the chance during the previous recruitment drive.
...
Meanwhile, at the defense line of the northern passage.
"Regardless of what those long-legged creatures are up to, we must break through the defense line and cut off their supply lines! So much material and forces, we mustn't let them succeed!" A Mouse Legion Commander roared angrily.
Inside the tent, other mouse legion commanders also chimed in agreement. However, a fat mouse covered in scars sneered: "You blind fool, are we not already acting? I've been attacking all along! But it's useless! That's the Enemy of God's troops, the Enemy of God is right there, what do you suggest we use to break through?"
His words resonated with the other mice. The Evil Rat and Four Gods' followers are already being driven to despair by the orders from above, nearly all available forces have been dispatched here, yet despite facing the Night Watcher's defenses, they're still powerless.
Over ten thousand Night Watchers have established solid defenses here, even if the mice use all their might, they can't budge it even slightly.
"Shoo!"
A sharp call suddenly echoed from the sky.
"Get down! Shield!" The mice needed no orders, they all ducked down. Several mages and priests quickly raised their magic staffs, erecting a light curtain.
A few light bullets descended from the sky, slammed into the light curtain, causing it to quiver violently, teetering on the brink of collapse. Another few light bullets landed in the distant mouse gathering area, instantly turning the place upside down.
"What on earth are these things? The Enemy of God's troops, how can they possess such terrifying weapons?" The mice discussed fearfully once more.
This type of attack had never been seen before by them a while ago. The light bullets descended rapidly with enormous magic power, so fast they were impossible to defend against. Upon landing, they would unleash devastating force, annihilating all rats around them.
Recently, they've been attacked like this multiple times.
Thankfully, the frequency of such attacks isn't high, each time only comprising several bullets, spaced nearly ten days apart. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Meanwhile, a few kilometers away at the Night Watcher's position, a group of uniformed Night Watchers were busying themselves.
"Did it hit?"
"Yes, it hit, but the rats were prepared, some were blocked by their shields."
This was the newly established department of the Night Watchers—Magic Power Weapons Research Institute, affiliated with the Alchemy Laboratory. Its founding was entirely orchestrated by Kana, who even serves as the director of the institute.
"Forget it, we have to take it back for further improvement. The Leader says it has great prospects, asking us to work hard."
"I know, I know, I've heard that so many times, why keep repeating it?"
"That's the Leader's recognition, don't you get it!"
"Of course I get it, but you can't keep saying it every day, ten or eight times a day, who can stand that?"
"Alright, no contest, let's get back to work, that's the key."
The two bantered as they headed towards the laboratory. They knew these light bullets were just the beginning, future wars will be completely transformed by these new weapons.
It's high time to blast these damned rats to the skies.

Northern Mountain Range Defense Line · Alchemy Laboratory [Temporary]
A Night Watcher Master Alchemist stood before an experimental platform, his fingertips stroking a metal shell engraved with runes. Outside the window, muffled explosions faintly resonated, causing the glass to tremble slightly, yet he didn't even blink.
"Master, the data for the seventh live test is out." A researcher dressed in a gray robe hurriedly arrived carrying a parchment, "Penetration Power increased by thirty percent, but the magic fluctuations still prematurely expose the trajectory..."
"Replace the Holy Silver coating with Starlight Dust." Kana suddenly spoke, his fingertips causing the shell to draw a silver arc under the lamp, "And add a spiral air groove to the projectile—like the feathers of an arrow."
Kana's sudden appearance didn't cause any surprise among them.
The researcher was taken aback: "But that will reduce the explosion range..."
"We're aiming for precise penetration of shields, not fireworks displays." Kana turned and walked toward the display rack, which held twelve models of different types of light bullets.
"Inform the casting workshop to remake the projectile using the newly arrived Cold Iron Ore. Tell those Dwarf craftsmen, I want the precision error in cutting not exceeding the thickness of a hair."
The Master Alchemist had been pondering ever since Kana spoke, murmuring: "What kind of structure is this? I had never thought in this direction."
Upon hearing this, Kana looked at him.
"That's because…"
These people are indeed the treasures of future magic power weapon development, it's imperative they thoroughly understand my concept.
