The Gentle Maiden and Five Lustful Brothers-Chapter 151: Dinner Felt Empty
Chapter 151: Dinner Felt Empty
Violet was beaten and exhausted from the day. The spaghetti dinner sat perfectly in her stomach. But her urge to feed from the room, was overwhelming her. She was feeling starved and all she wanted was the sweet relief from pain that feeding would bring her.
Ash was pleased with Violet’s efforts. He washed her every move today. Remembering her graceful movements, appreciating her, rather strong, instinct. Like she’s practiced before.
I’ve done a little training before, but it was nothing like this. Nothing like how she moved today. The determination in her mind. Everything was different about her. Her smell was even changing, it was strengthening, but also seemed less sweet, like an old fruit before it turns into alcohol.
Ash watched as she ate. Reminiscing on all the days they had dinner as a family. The table felt empty. Even with most of the family sitting at the table eating, with Odette gone. Nothing felt right.
He remembered how after a rigorous train session, she always wanted something sweet like icing. Ash trained her daily. Preparing her, he wanted to make sure she could handle the prophecy. Since she was old enough to fight, she’s been training. Only a few weeks off a year. Her life was micromanaged down to the food she ate. Now that he had time to sit back and think about it. Were they too strict? Did they do wrong by her? Was he too harsh?
Ash thought about the times he could have been more encouraging, and guilt started to swell in his chest.
He never stopped to question his tactics. He had to do this though; she needed to grow strong and sturdy. They had only scratched the surface with training her magical abilities.
There would be a war, and Ash intended to make sure she was ready and able to take down whatever enemy currently sat in the shadows.
Would she be able to keep training? Was she locked in a cell? Were they feeding her. The Goddess Artemis didn’t seem concerned. Did that mean Odette was okay? Or was the Goddess Artemis just cold hearted and indifferent to even her own daughter.
Would she be ready to face the foe in the prophecy? Or would he lose her to fate? Ash never believed in fate, but with her. It wasn’t worth the risk.
Violet scarfed down her food. But she kept sneaking glances at Ash, who had only played with his food. She could see the creases on his face from the frown that rested on it. Whatever he was thinking about it wasn’t good.
"Ash?" Violet said placing her hand gently on top of his.
He blinked and shook his head trying to find his way back to reality, clearing his throat he asked, "Sorry, did I miss anything?"
"No, just Violet eating everything, and is probably about to move on to the plates." Oliver joked, taking a sip of wine.
Oliver had been acting calm since everything, but inside he was a mess, he hadn’t stopped thinking about his niece. He’d been working tirelessly on searching the world online, for anything. Even just a glimpse of her. He hadn’t slept since she disappeared, he’s just been searching through databases and hacking camera access.
He’s found nothing. It’s like she was wiped from the world. Even her accounts on social media had been deactivated.
Jeremy and Rosa had been handling the business aspect of everything. Directing budgets working on supply acquisitions.
Gabriel and Vlad were working directly with army.
Vlad was helping with training and drills. Vlad was centuries older than Gabriel. Born in 100AD he had more experience than almost anyone still alive today. The old man was almost 2000 years old but looked no older than 39. Purebloods age extremely slow.
Vlad wasn’t just training soldiers; he was training killers. Vlad could be a savage murderous monster, just like Ash if he needed to be.
Gabriel was handling battle plans and strategy meetings. Spending countless hours with officials.
He noted they were still missing some clans. Clans no one has heard from. Which was worrisome, but Gabriel didn’t have the time or mental space to deal with it at the moment, it had to sit on the back burner. He would eventually tell Ash and have him assign someone to investigate.
Right now, wasn’t the time. Finding Princess Odette was the focus.
Everyone at the table laughed at Olivers joke. They needed the laugh, the whole manner had been tense since yesterday.
"I peeped the training from today with Violet, and I have to say I’m impressed." Gabriel said, "it makes sense if some people worked as hard as you, they’d probably finish their plate." Gabriel shot a hard glare in Olivers direction.
"Hey, I work hard. It’s just not on the ground, but behind a screen. I’ve been scouring all the cameras I can hack, and I haven’t spotted her. Her social medias have been deactivated. So, it’s been a depressing disappointment on my end." Oliver defended himself.
"Well, even for all your efforts, you’ve got nothing to show for it. You should be training alongside the rest of us, same as the rest of you."
Gabriel was more right than he realized Ash and Violet have never spoken of the prophecy, it wasn’t just war with the shifters, it was also with an unknown force sometime in the future, but they had no idea when, but Gabriel was correct, they needed to be well trained.
’Maybe it’s time we tell them about the prophecy.’ Violet pushed the thought into Ash’s mind.
’I think you’re right. Should we after dinner? We can have Arya cast the silence spell thing that was cast with you the last time.’ Ash suggested.
’Okay.’ Violet agreed.
It was overdue honestly. They probably should have said something sooner. But they hoped it wouldn’t come to pass, and if they spoke about, they were afraid it would make it real.
After dinner, Violet asked Arya about the spell, and she more than agreed it was long overdue.
Ash took Violet’s hand in his and looked at the family, "Please, follow me to the moon room, we have something to discuss with you all."
