The Gigolo System in the Academy of Magic-Chapter 34: Getting Stronger
Chapter 34 - Getting Stronger
After James left the classroom, he immediately went to Selena's house. He didn't want to go to his dormitories alone, and using a trace crystal seemed like a waste of affection points.
She wasn't home yet. That wasn't too surprising. Ever since the demons arrived, the professors had been overwhelmed with mandatory meetings.
James didn't mind. He headed straight toward the bedroom. As he stepped inside, his eyes landed on the pile of items carefully arranged on the bed.
Ever since she had become contracted to him, Selena had done her best to help him raise his magical level. But after spending nearly all her school credits to secure a drop of Abyss Walker blood for him, she had to rely on her family. Now, it seems the items have arrived.
"Is this the beauty of the Gigolo System? Ah, getting free things is the best!"
James picked up the first item: a gleaming, corked bottle filled with a shimmering silver-blue liquid.
"A meditation potion?"
These were special magical potions that allowed level mages to slightly improve their efficiency while meditating. Access to this was what also allowed many children from noble families to improve quickly, and was part of the reason he was quickly left behind after entering Ainsworth.
There were two dozen bottles neatly packed in a velvet-lined crate. He whistled low. This wasn't cheap. But before he could even lift one to examine further, a familiar chime echoed in his mind.
[System Notification]: Host has received substantial support through contract. Upgrading item rewards...]
[Silver Tier Item: Meditation Potion (Enhanced)]
[Increases meditation efficiency by 30%. Highly effective for low level mages.]
James was excited, so he quickly picked up the next item. It was a small stone with glowing magical engravings. Sure enough the next second the system notification rang out.
[Silver Tier Item: Calming Stone (Enhanced)]
[Boosts meditation duration by 15%.]
Most low level mages can only meditate for 30 minutes to an hour a day, otherwise their mana will become disordered and their soul won't be able to handle it. With the help of two souls combing, James can meditate for over 2 hours, and he feels like it can get even longer.
Special items like the calming stone, can help improve that time, but usually it's only a few percent, not like the silver level item in his hand.
With this and the meditation potions, James felt he could become a level 2 mage in a week or two at the latest!
The last item on the bed was a small golden ring laced with magical runes.
[Silver Level Item: Simple Mana Shield (Enhanced)]
[Forms a golden barrier protecting the host inside. Can block one attack from Level 4 mage each time. Mana cost: 1000]
The system had upgraded the shield from blocking a level 3 mage to level 4. He didn't have enough mana to use it right now, but considering an average level 3 mage might be able to block an attack five or six times, is enough to show that he got a huge bargain!
A tool like this could mean the difference between life and death in a duel!
James exhaled slowly and began organizing the items, placing the potions on the shelf and setting the calming stone near his usual meditation circle. After a moment's thought, he settled down and began his practice.
Almost three hours passed in silence, broken only by his slow, even breathing. freёweɓnovel.com
Finally, he opened his eyes and whispered:
"Panel."
[Name]: James Woodrow
[Age]: 18
[Mana]: 350/350 (+50)
His mana had increased by 50 points in one meditation session!
It seems that the mana of a level 2 mage is between 100 and 1000, so right now his bloodline allowed him to have the strength of an early level 2 mage, but he didn't know what the limit was?
[Bloodline]: Abyss Walker (1%)
"The bloodline concentration is 1 percent..."
If he can improve the Ayss Walker bloodline he will be able to gain more abilities, and improve his existing abilities.
"I should ask Selena to get some bloodline improving potions."
But he didn't hold out much hope, methods to improve one's bloodline were notoriously difficult to find. Actually, if you want to ask which group of people were the most advanced in the study of bloodlines it must be the demons...it seems he needs to improve his favorability with Helene.
James shook his head. He wasn't too worried, he felt that once Helene let go of her suspicions against him, the favorability would increase quickly.
He began practising his Abyss Walker abilities while waiting for Selena.
It was quite late when she finally came back, she looked tired, and her eyebrows were furrowed.
There is a lot of tension between the demons and students, and everyone is on high alert. This was an important diplomatic mission.
Sitting on the couch, James told Selena about what happened today, and how the demon professor wanted him to be a spy. Selena's first response was to get angry but he quickly calmed her down and asked about the principal.
Selena leaned back, pressing her fingers to her temple, "The principal said he'd speak to me privately tomorrow."
James thought for a while and then laid out his plan:
"Then you tell him about Everheart's conspiracy, and also say that you assigned a student as a spy on the demon's side, but don't tell him my identity."
"This way I can act as a double agent, which will protect me later on. I'm sure everyone will start making moves before the training camp, so we should be careful."
He didn't have any great hopes of protecting the human realm, or saving the demons, he just wanted to ruin Ryan Everhearts plans.
James was also thinking this would explain why we had a closer relationship with Selena now...in case anyone was paying attention...
After running through the details with Selena, she was about to get up from the sofa to go to the bedroom, when James suddenly pulled her back.
He had been teased by Helene all day, and he could no longer hold back.
