THE GOD EATER-Chapter 150: Ignorant Noob.
Greg paused then to let his threat sink in. He also made sure to glare at each of them in turn to show them that he was very serious.
After he was sure that they had gotten his message, he smiled and said, "Why the gloomy faces? It is like I took your money. Cheer up."
"Don’t just damage my airship during the fight, or I will fine you. As long as you don’t do that and you help me capture the airship, everything will be fine."
With that final warning, he turned back to the control deck with a nonchalant attitude befitting someone who wasn’t about ready to kill everyone around him.
His behavior caused many people to swallow nervously. And even though Greg had begun to grumble about their incompetence again, no one spoke up to encourage him to become silent.
No one was willing to contradict him after that lady lost her arm. Now that they saw more of what he was capable of, they had even more reasons to shut up and accept whatever Greg says without flinching or grumbling.
So the cabin fell into utter silence. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the rope tightening and winding as it was reeled back into its container.
In this silence, they spent their mental resources thinking and reviewing the turn of events. Many of them didn’t know what to think about the turn of events because the outcome hadn’t been set yet.
They didn’t know whether to be happy that they are not going to die just yet or be sad that the most dangerous threat capable of killing them is one of their allies, not the enemy. The only thing they were sure of was that they should be very afraid of Greg.
Only Loki and one other person weren’t thinking about these things, and we’re instead focused on the Metac or Ability that Greg had used just now to fend off the enemies.
The other person in the cabin who was thinking about this matter was Jane. She was intrigued by what she saw and was impressed by it.
Loki, on the other hand, was confused by the sight. He kept reviewing what he saw over and over again in his mind.
At the end of the day, he said to himself, perplexed, "That’s not how the Floating Furnace Life Ability should look. Fenrir won’t lie about that. So, unless Fenrir is mistaken, that Floating Furnace must have mutated."
"A mutation is strange, but not unheard of. However, in what world will a furnace mutate into a bunch of birds?"
He has seen a Floating Furnace Life Ability before. He saw one when he was training in the Rusty Bolts Society. What he saw that day was a floating red oven full of burning flames, not a red bird made of fire.
A mutation in the Life Ability is surprising, but possible. But he can’t think of how a bird will be related to the Forging Pathway.
Since he couldn’t figure it out, he decided to ask Greg. He figured that Greg would like to brag about himself, and he wasn’t exactly afraid of death, so he summoned the courage to ask his superior a sensitive question.
He said to Greg, "Master Greg, what’s wrong with your Life Ability? It looks like a bird?"
Everyone in the cabin turned to look at Loki as if he were an idiot. They thought that it was a bad idea to do anything that could offend Greg, such as asking about something as important as his Life Ability.
They immediately distanced themselves from him after he asked that personal and stupid question. Then they waited with bated breath for Greg’s reaction.
Just as they expected, Greg scoffed and said, "You speak as if you know what my Life Ability should be. How can a bumpkin like you, who doesn’t know that one shouldn’t reveal their Life Ability easily, know what my Life Ability really is?"
At any other time, Loki might have backed down. After all, he didn’t really know that Life Abilities are supposed to be secrets.
But he didn’t want Greg to continue looking down on him anymore, and he wanted to ask Greg more questions, like "why should Life Abilities be secret?"
So he said, "Isn’t it the Floating Furnace Life Ability?"
His answer made Greg turn to look at him and examine him from head to toe. Then Greg turned back to the control panel as he said, "I’m surprised you could discover it. After all, my Life Ability doesn’t look like the original one at all."
Loki saw an opportunity and immediately took it by saying, "That’s what I’m asking about. Why does your life Ability look like a bird?"
This time, Greg rolled his eyes and said, "It is obviously a mutation. It is not as if I can control a mutation."
Loki nodded and said, "That’s true. I thought maybe you did something to influence it. I guess it is just luck."
Greg smiled before saying, "Did you ask me that because your Life Ability is special too?"
Loki shook his head and said, "No. I was just curious."
This made Greg smile even more as he said, "It seems you really don’t know that information about Life Abilities should be kept secret. Especially if the Life Ability is a special mutation."
"If you knew that important information, you would have been pissed that I just revealed the fact that your Life Ability is special to all of these people. So, while you may not be an idiot, you’re definitely an ignorant noob."
Jane heard this and nodded in agreement. She was also looking at Loki as if he were an idiot.
Loki didn’t know what all the fuss was about, so he said to Greg, "Why should information about Life Abilities be kept secret?"
In reply, Greg said, "If you don’t know, then you don’t need to know."
