The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 66 Beautiful Crime_1
Li Qing’s argument was assertive.
Through this plain and simple sentence, he clarified the whole matter.
After all the talk, the only real reason Hu Youyu and Tian Laowu could stand their ground was that they saw Li Qing talking to Tian Yue’e.
They didn’t see Li Qing actually engage in an affair with Tian Yue’e.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd jeered and shouted, "Oh no, this is terrible!"
"Everyone listen up, from now on, keep your wives in check, don’t let them talk to other men. Otherwise, you might be accused of selling them and end up blocking your door with a bunch of nephews and being dragged to the police station!"
No sooner had he finished than someone responded, "Oh dear, I’m finished, I just happened to talk to Yu Lan today, what am I supposed to do now? If Yu Lan is also for sale, I haven’t paid yet!"
"You’re supposed to have your turn before you pay, what are you paying for if nothing happened? Ask Boss Hu if he’s willing to make some room for you tonight, so you can settle your bill smoothly."
The crowd burst into laughter.
Hu Youyu’s argument became a powerful reason for everyone to attack him.
Unable to take legal action against the crowd’s fury, Hu Youyu was left fuming with rage, but unable to erupt. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"A bunch of ignorant fools, Tian Yue’e is indeed a prostitute; it doesn’t mean everyone else is, what are you all blindly fussing about?" he bellowed, "If you really have nothing better to do, go home and take care of your wives!"
"Yikes, Boss Hu, you say Tian Yue’e sells herself, did you see it? Or are you saying you’ve bought her services before?" someone sneered.
"Boss Hu, don’t use baseless accusations as evidence to bully people!"
"If we’re going by what you say, then I’ve heard that you’ve slept with several other men’s wives using contracting fees and project funds. Aren’t you afraid of their husbands coming for you with knives in the dead of night?"
"I was just here to watch the spectacle, but I can’t stand to watch any longer. What goes around comes around; you, Hu Youyu, are bullying this girl so badly, be careful of retribution."
"Speaking of which, the stories about you are much more detailed and believable than those about the Tian girl."
"Otherwise, I suggest you first go to the police station and clear your own scandals before you talk."
Initially just onlookers, the villagers suddenly turned against Hu Youyu, bombarding him with a barrage of mocking ridicule.
Hu Youyu’s face turned purple with suppressed anger, and his eyes darkened with a dangerous glint.
He glanced coldly around, but the speakers were cautious.
They turned off their flashlights and spoke in disguised voices.
Hu Youyu wanted to recognize one or two of them to remember for later revenge, but it was too dark to see clearly.
"Let’s go!"
Hu Youyu commanded in a deep voice, took the opportunity of the dark to punch Tian Laowu in the eye socket, and then turned and left.
Tian Laowu cried out, but he couldn’t see who hit him.
"Old dog, you’d better watch yourself, don’t force me to really set your house on fire. I, Li Qing, am all alone, with nothing to fear, and could profit from making you die without descendants!" With a daunting gaze, Li Qing shouted at Hu Youyu’s retreating figure.
This threat was full of intimidation, causing Hu Youyu to quicken his pace.
Tian Laowu, seeing the tide turn against him, bent over and quietly slipped out from the back of the crowd.
After the troublemaker left, the onlooking villagers, familiar or not, mostly came up and comforted in a token manner.
Li Qing’s last statement left them somewhat shaken.
With a bit of saliva and a few words, persuading Li Qing even just nominally could at least guarantee that he wouldn’t lump them together with Hu Youyu’s gang.
With families to support and lives that had just started to improve, everyone feared someone like Li Qing who, with nothing to hold him back, could become ruthless and reckless.
"Get inside!" Li Qing addressed the crowd, gave Han Mei and Tian Yue’e a couple of shoves, and said in a stern voice.
The two women didn’t speak and obediently entered the house.
Li Qing waited until everyone had left before entering the courtyard and locking the door behind him.
"You little vixen, now you know what fear is, huh? That’s what you get for dressing so flashily when you first came back to the village," Han Mei said to Tian Yue’e, patting her back without a hint of warmth in her voice.
Tian Yue’e sighed and said, "Back at the factory, those little bitches were falling all over me. Who would have thought that coming back to the village would squash me flat? It’s suffocating!"
"If I ever find out who started spreading those rumors about me, I’ll tear her mouth apart and rip it to shreds!"
Seeing Tian Yue’e grinding her teeth with rage, Li Qing felt somewhat reassured in his heart.
It seemed there was no real trouble.
She was still spirited, after all.
"The one who started the rumors is someone you won’t find," Han Mei said with a light laugh, "There’s definitely more than one person who’s been talking."
"When you first came back to the village, you were either wearing tight mini skirts that barely covered your backside or flaunting your thighs in black stockings. All the village men would’ve given anything to lay their eyes on you. How could their wives be happy with that?"
"Whose rumors would they spread if not yours?"
Only then did Li Qing understand the origin of the rumors about Tian Yue’e.
"Aren’t there plenty of other women in the village dressed like that now? Why do they singling me out?" Tian Yue’e grumbled discontentedly.
Han Mei snickered lightly, "Since last year, everyone has indeed become daring in their choice of clothing, wearing all kinds of outfits. But being the first to dress like that, you’re bound to be at fault!"
"Besides, with that devilish figure of yours, even if the village women dressed exactly like you, they still wouldn’t be easy on the eyes compared to you."
"Is it my fault for being born beautiful?" Tian Yue’e said, corners of her mouth twitching, her face full of gloom.
Han Mei let out a soft sigh, "That’s why they say beauty can be a curse..."
She herself had suffered her fair share because of it.
Li Qing took the opportunity to say, "This matter should be behind us for now."
"But you’ve definitely made a mortal enemy out of Hu Youyu," Han Mei, looking up at Li Qing, said worriedly.
"Sis, for us small-time folks who are often bullied, being a bit tough is the only way to avoid being at a disadvantage," Li Qing explained.
Han Mei nodded softly, "Sis understand. You did the right thing today. Yue’e and I thought the same, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to be that ruthless today. If Yue’e hadn’t held the sickle to her neck, they might have taken us away by force."
"Now that it’s over, you should head back. I’ll stay at this vixen’s place tonight to talk things over."
This time, Tian Yue’e didn’t refuse; instead, she said, "I really do need someone to talk some sense into me; I’m so angry!"
Seeing this, Li Qing’s heart completely relaxed.
It was good that their natures were open-minded, not the kind to brood over things.
"Then, I’ll head back first," Li Qing said and, picking up his axe, headed home.
Just as he settled down comfortably on the sofa after entering his house, a phone call suddenly came through.
