The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 917 Ebei Action Group
Just as Li Qing was looking up at the signboard of Yihong Courtyard and begin to seriously question his sanity, he suddenly noticed a bronze plaque on the wall just below the bold signboard, which read—Folklore Museum.
Li Qing couldn’t help but laugh, the person behind this was definitely a genius.
The name Yihong Courtyard sounded rather intimidating.
The key issue was that the signboard was very big, while the copper plaque was just a tiny piece, almost impossible to see clearly unless you looked carefully.
Whoever did this, certainly did it on purpose.
He strode forward, the main gate was wide open, inside sat a security guard who appeared to be in his fifties or sixties, with his hat cocked over his face, racing against the clock to bask in the golden evening sun.
Li Qing, holding the card in his hand, felt a bit puzzled, should he just walk in, or should he ask for directions?
Dian Chunqiu’s work was unreliable, and it seemed like this Banana Taoist was no more dependable.
He was only given a card, with no detailed explanation whatsoever.
After all, he was the dignified leader of the Ebei Action Group, and this suddenly gave him the feeling of going to a job interview.
Just as Li Qing was doubting himself, the security guard, whose hat was covering his face, seemed to have been awakened by Li Qing’s movements. He rubbed his somewhat groggy eyes, squinted, and took a hard look at Li Qing, then waved his hand and said, "The museum’s closed, come back another day."
Li Qing raised the card in his hand and asked, "Do you recognize this?"
"What’s this thing? Don’t know it, it’s no use whatever you’ve got, we’re closed," the old man waved his hand and said.
"I’m not going to the museum, I’m looking for another place," Li Qing said resignedly, "There should be other companies in this building, right?"
"There’s nothing else, just this Folklore Museum," the old man said, somewhat impatiently, and had already laid back down.
Seeing this, Li Qing shook his head, resigning himself to search on his own.
He glanced at the old man who had already laid back down, clearly no longer interested in dealing with him, and directly activated the Godspeed Talisman to rush upstairs.
But an awkward situation occurred, after circling the entire building, Li Qing was astonished to discover that it was indeed just the Folklore Museum, without any other companies or anything of the sort.
This left Li Qing starting to doubt life itself -- could it be that he really came to the wrong place?
But there was only this one building that looked the part on the whole street, no second establishment existed.
After hesitating, he dialed Dian Chunqiu’s number.
If this bigshot wouldn’t be reliable, then don’t blame him for being annoying, it was because Dian Chunqiu would always leave loose ends and didn’t clarify things for him.
Could he really be blamed?
"What is it this time?" Dian Chunqiu’s voice came through with a hint of impatience.
At these words, Li Qing couldn’t help but feel his blood pressure rise -- you explain nothing and you’re blaming me?
"Chief, I think you need to give me a clear direction, I’m the leader of that group in Ebei County, right?" Li Qing asked.
"What’s there to doubt? You’ve always been in charge of Ebei, haven’t you?" Dian Chunqiu said.
"But why can’t I find my office to save my life? Please, do me a favor and guide me, Chief. With your laissez-faire attitude towards me, and you expect me not to ask questions, it’s a bit unreasonable, don’t you think, leader?" Li Qing said, feeling extremely frustrated inside.
He had never seen someone so fond of cutting corners.
Like a lazy farmer scattering seeds and then yawning while waiting for the grain silo to fill.
Wishful thinking, really.
"Didn’t that old banana leaf tell you?" Dian Chunqiu asked, startled.
"Chief, if he had, I wouldn’t have had to redundantly ask this question," Li Qing replied irritably.
"Go find the security guard, he knows," Dian Chunqiu said. "This old banana leaf is becoming more and more unreliable. How could he not clarify such an important matter to you?"
"Chief, I just suddenly thought of an idiom, ’birds of a feather,’ does it sound familiar to you?" Li Qing said with a smile.
Dian Chunqiu was stunned for a moment, then suddenly cursed loudly, "You little bastard, do you know who you’re talking to?"
"Of course, I know, but I’ve really never seen leaders as irresponsible as you. At the very least, what’s the situation? Give me a few more hints to save me this wild goose chase that almost killed me." Li Qing’s full grievances suddenly poured out. "I was thinking, after all, I am a team leader, the highest-ranking official in the department, right? I was thinking of looking a bit impressive, but this guy, I couldn’t even find the door."
"Alright, alright, cut the grumbling," Dian Chunqiu shouted. "It was that old banana leaf who messed up, not me. Don’t pin this on me! I didn’t fail to mention such a simple matter. I arranged everything I should have for you; it’s you who didn’t look."
"Fine, Chief, Your Excellency, you are right," Li Qing said with a laugh, shaking his head. "I’ll go ask the security guard for directions."
"I am right and always have been, why would I not be?" Dian Chunqiu huffed.
Li Qing didn’t bother with further nonsense with Dian Chunqiu, he simply responded and then hung up the phone. With the Godspeed Talisman activated, he arrived on the first floor, took the security cap from that old man’s face, and then waved the card in front of the astonished old man, "Old man, do you recognize this thing?"
"Young man, what exactly are you trying to do?" the old man said somewhat displeased, looking closely at the card in Li Qing’s hand. His expression suddenly froze, "Ah, it’s this thing... I thought... I do know this."
He then looked at Li Qing up and down in surprise and asked, "Are you our Ebei team leader?"
Li Qing was thoroughly rendered speechless. Good lord, this old man hadn’t even taken a proper look before.
He nodded and said, "It’s good that you recognize it. If you had said you didn’t recognize it, I might have had to get tough!"
The old man rubbed his slightly sunburned cheeks and chuckled sheepishly, "Don’t be angry, team leader, I was a bit groggy and indeed didn’t take a good look just now. I’ll take the team leader there right away."
Picking up the security cap resting on his body, he led Li Qing towards the elevator on the first floor, swaying slightly.
"Team leader, after you enter the elevator, swipe the card on the screen behind you, and the elevator will open up," he said.
The old man opened the elevator, pointed to a screen on the side, and said, "Someone will take over from the team leader downstairs; I’m only responsible for the surface, I have no authority to go down there, so I can only escort the team leader this far."
Li Qing nodded, finally finding his bearings.
He stepped into the elevator and swiped the card against the screen that was scrolling through advertisements.
Something magical happened next: the entire back of the elevator opened up, revealing another hidden elevator behind him.
Li Qing entered the elevator and checked the buttons.
There were twelve floors in total, nine above ground and three below.
"Team leader, your office should be on the top floor," the old man said, tilting his head towards Li Qing.
