Chapter 51: First Concoction

Within a matter of seconds, Ye Ming reluctantly extended his hand and grabbed the herbs that Ye Qing Lei mentioned.

"I’m done, Mother." He called out to the empty space, wanting nothing more than to leave the area.

A few seconds later, Ye Ming found himself back at his own office. In front of him was none other than Ye Qing Lei, who had a bright and sweet smile hanging on her face.

When Ye Ming saw that, he couldn’t even try to get mad at her for being so forceful.

No son could ever get mad at their Mother. And even if they did, they would soon forgive them and let the matter go.

"You’re not mad at me, right?" Ye Qing Lei asked gently.

"Mother has no choice, but to resort to such a method to make you assimilate with those memories to become great. I’m sure you understand my intention, right?" She continued, clearly seeking approval from him.

"Ugh, how can I even get mad?" Ye Ming exhaled softly and leaned his chin on his palm. "Next time, you should just suggest or request me. But please don’t ever pull such a similar stunt again."

The feeling he experienced was equivalent to being grounded or placed under house arrest. It was something he never wanted to experience again.

Nodding, Ye Qing Lei gladly complied with that request. She was not an abusive mother who would imprison her son just so he would learn.

She only did it this time because she wanted her son to at least be knowledgeable in alchemy and concoct his own pill to cultivate. If her son didn’t want to rely on her pills, then she might as well make Ye Ming concoct his own.

Of course, she didn’t want him to suffer or be swarmed by textbooks. There was no need to waste his time to study alchemy when she could literally hand over all her knowledge to him.

Her knowledge was something everyone sought after, but she would never give it out unless it was her son.

"Anyway, do you want to try to do your first concoction?" Ye Qing Lei clasped her hands and suggested. Nevertheless, she still snapped her fingers and retrieved a beautiful cauldron.

Stunned by the cauldron’s appearance, Ye Ming raised an eyebrow.

"Eh, weren’t you able to just concoct a pill by crushing your hand?" He questioned skeptically.

"Oh, that method." Realization quickly dawned upon Ye Qing Lei.

"Yes, that is one of the fastest methods, but you’re not at that level yet. Having the memories doesn’t mean you could just advance to the final stage in the practical part."

What Ye Qing Lei meant was that Ye Ming had only completed the entirety of the theoretical part. But he was still at stage zero in terms of the practical part.

Think of it like a doctor studying all the core knowledge and the hows of what to do in the surgery. They still wouldn’t be considered a prominent and veteran surgeon because they needed to gain experience in hands-on surgery.

Just because you know what to do, your body might not be able to respond in time or even succeed in that action.

To simplify further, one might know how to complete a marathon, but their physical body might not be able to sustain enough to finish the process.

Therefore, Ye Qing Lei wanted Ye Ming to master and experience the basics of the basics first.

"Tsk, so it’s still basic again." Ye Ming clicked his tongue and felt bored by the learning procedure.

"So what pill am I supposed to concoct? A Qi Refinement pill that allows them to breakthrough stages?" He questioned, losing his motivation.

However, Ye Qing Lei was completely taken aback by his question.

"Now why would I ask you to concoct such a low-level pill?" She furrowed her brows and wondered how her son thought she was some old fogey.

She didn’t inject him with all her knowledge just to have him concoct the lowest pill level. That would not only be an insult but also a humiliation and disrespect toward her knowledge.

Had it been someone else who she decided to teach that raised such a question, then she would have expelled them immediately.

Like how dare they?

Unfortunately, though, the one who raised the question was her son—someone whom she would always be tolerant and lenient to.

"Son, I don’t know what kind of thought process is running in your mind. But your Mother isn’t like those crooks or trash alchemists." She kindly reminded him, but also subtly warned him to never make the same mistake.

"Yes, Mother." Ye Ming straightened up and saluted solemnly.

He behaved like a soldier in the military despite never actually signing up to become one.

After all, nobody could endure the harsh training and the strict protocol. Not to mention, he wasn’t a masochist who would enjoy the trainer to repeatedly scold him for one tiny mistake.

"Start sitting down with your legs crossed." Ye Qing Lei said as she sat down on the ground.

"Mother would first demonstrate the concoction for you to see. So pay close attention." She held a stern expression when saying so. It was as if she had changed to a different person as soon as she changed gear when it involved alchemy.

Ye Ming also dared not to slack off as he paid close attention to Ye Qing Lei’s actions.

Although she tried her best to slow down, Ye Ming still struggled to keep up with her pace.

The flame that she used to heat the cauldron was very powerful. In a matter of seconds, all the herbs were burned, leaving only their essences behind.

The essences then started to merge under Ye Qing Lei’s command.

This process was usually the most tedious and time-consuming one, but not even a minute later, the merging was completed.

Soon, a strong pill fragrance was emitted and Ye Ming only took a few sniffs to identify what type of pill she just concocted.

"Qi Enhancement Pill." He unconscionably uttered it aloud.
