The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 298 With me here, you two are gonna be just fine
The driver wore a black baseball cap, silently keeping his eyes on the road.
Megan sat in the backseat, cradling her baby bump. Just two more months to go before the little one arrived.
At least she still had the baby. Tristan, though... he was the one who got to enjoy his loneliness now.
The sun dipped low beyond the hills, night creeping in.
Megan looked out the window, then slowly shut her eyes.
She had no clue where he was sending her. Not that it mattered. Even if she knew, what could she do? With such a huge belly, she couldn’t just flee. Right now, protecting the baby was all that mattered.
The car drove on. Eventually, Megan drifted off to sleep.
Sometime past midnight, the car pulled over.
The "man" spoke for the first time. "Your stop, Miss."
Megan’s eyes flew open. Miss? Excuse me?
She asked, "Where are we?"
The driver undid the seatbelt, stepped out, and opened the back door. "This is Tranquil Dawn Temple."
Megan’s eyebrow twitched. "A temple... for nuns?"
"That’s right. I’m Samantha Green, the head nun."
Wait a second—this *wasn’t* a man? Turns out she was a woman all along.
With that build and husky voice? She was the definition of a tomboy!
"I heard from Mr. Ford that you’d given up on worldly life and wanted to become a nun."
Megan stepped out of the car, pulling her jacket snug. "Yeah, no. I haven’t exactly sworn off men or anything. I just had a huge fight with my husband. And I’m pregnant. No way I’m joining the nunnery."
Samantha got the idea. Hurt, abandoned, looking for peace. She felt for her. "Alright, you can stay here till the baby comes. After that, it’s up to you whether to leave or stay."
"Thanks."
Samantha led her up the mountain. The path wasn’t easy—just dozens of steep steps. Megan had to stop frequently.
Add to that the rain-slick stairs and her huge belly blocking her view, and, yep—she rolled her ankle.
White-faced from the pain, she let out a hiss. "Uh... Battle-axe... Samantha? I think I twisted something. Can you give me a hand?"
Samantha rushed to her side. "Want me to carry you?"
Looking up, there were still, what, two hundred steps to go? If Samantha slipped or dropped her, she and the baby could end up in serious trouble.
She shook her head. "Just help me walk. I can manage."
Two hours later, at last, they reached Tranquil Dawn Temple.
Samantha knocked on the gate. Soon, a drowsy nun in her thirties opened it.
Stifling a yawn, she squinted in the dim light. "Whoa—Ma’am, where’d you pick up the pregnant lady?"
"Don’t start, Lily. Take Miss Shaw to the east room. She sprained her ankle. Have Ivy come check it out."
Lily helped Megan into the room. Not long after, a young nun stumbled in, half-asleep.
"We’re taking in pregnant women now? I heard she twisted her ankle too?"
Rubbing her eyes, she looked Megan over. "Hey... you look really familiar. Aren’t you that guy’s wife?"
Megan lowered her gaze. "No, you’ve got the wrong person."
Lily asked, "What guy?"
"Tristan, of course! Director of National Security! You seriously don’t know him? That man’s so handsome it’s illegal. I swear, I was this close to leaving the order for him. Ha!"
She laughed, then squinted at Megan again. "Nah, guess you’re not her. Maybe just look like her. I mean, what kind of man would let his pregnant wife end up in a place like this? Anyway, I’ll fix your ankle real quick. Brace yourself. It’s gonna hurt."Megan nodded. Ivy looked about twenty-one or two, cute as a button and had the kind of carefree smile that made people relax.
Her head was round, her cheeks were chubby, and her body shape... honestly, she looked like a walking cylinder.
As she took off Megan’s shoes and saw her swollen foot, she winced and said, "Whoa there, girl! Your foot looks like it could steam a whole tray of buns. This isn’t just a sprain, it’s like your foot caught yeast and started rising!"
Even though Megan was wincing in pain, she still laughed. "You’re adorable."
"Right?! People keep saying I’m cute, but not once has anyone said I’m beautiful!" Ivy grinned and kept chatting to distract her. "So, how far along are you? What brings you here? Got any plans after this?"
Megan gently rubbed her belly and answered, "Eight months. Still two more to go. I just had a fight with my husband and wanted some space. So, uh... I might need to stay here for a while."
She didn’t dare say "a few years," worried they might kick her out if she sounded too settled.
Suddenly, her belly started to tighten over and over again—contractions.
She had read books about labor, thought she was prepared, but it was way more sudden than she imagined.
Taking a deep breath, she said quietly, "I think my contractions just started. Kinda hurts."
Lily blinked, shocked. "Oh my God. I’m getting the head nun. She’s the only one here who’s actually delivered a baby!"
Megan froze. Wait—what? That Battle-axe? The one who looked like she could wrestle a bear? She had kids?
Waves of pain started hitting and Megan focused on her breathing. "Is this preterm labor?"
Then she felt wetness in her pants.
Ivy stared, confused. "Did the pain make you pee?"
"Are you serious? My water just broke!" Megan snapped just as Samantha stepped into the room, dragged the dazed Ivy aside, and said, "Go get hot water, scissors, a candle, rubbing alcohol, towels, and some gloves. Now."
Megan grabbed Samantha’s hand. "Can you take me to a hospital? What if it’s a tough labor, or I start bleeding, or there’s an amniotic embolism? The baby and I—"
Samantha didn’t flinch. She washed her hands and slipped into gloves Ivy handed her like she’d done this a thousand times.
"Let’s check where you’re at."
While Megan exhaled slowly, she frowned. "You seem... weirdly experienced at this."
"I’ve helped deliver piglets, calves... even foals."
That triggered a thought and Megan burst out laughing. "Wait, was the foal’s name something like ’Momo’?"
"You knew?!"
Megan cracked up. Seriously, of all things—what were the odds of overlapping on a birthing-horse meme?
"Wait... You really had a child before?" she asked, suddenly serious.
Samantha nodded lightly. "Yeah. But the baby didn’t make it past birth."
Megan’s heart tightened. "Why?"
"It was a breech birth. Feet first. My mom didn’t know what to do. She tried to pull the head out... and broke its neck."
It was like listening to a horror story. Megan went pale and raised a shaky hand. "Samantha, please... get me off this mountain."
Samantha saw the panic in her eyes, straightened up, and Lily and Ivy immediately stepped in to hold Megan down.
"Don’t fight it, I’ll be gentle," Samantha said calmly, pulling down her pants to examine her.
Megan yelped. "Battle-axe, what’s going on?!"
"Breech presentation."
Megan clenched her brows, half in pain, half in panic. She’d done her checkups; the baby had been head-first before. What changed?
"Can you handle it?" Megan asked, her voice trembling.
Samantha gave her a steady nod. "Relax. With me here, you two are gonna be just fine."
