Chapter 306: Chapter 306 Then... has your heart changed toward Daddy?

Megan shot him a cold glare and tried to pull her hand away, but his grip only tightened.

The man chuckled lowly, his voice a husky whisper. "Now that I’ve got you, I’m not letting go. Keep quiet unless you want that brat to notice."

Megan scoffed. "So I should just let you take advantage of me?"

"You could resist," he said, utterly shameless. "But I have no shame to begin with."

Pressing her lips together to suppress a smile, Megan didn’t bother denying the truth—she didn’t want to let go either.

Four and a half years. Not a single second had passed without her longing for him.

The last time she saw him, he had been unconscious, emaciated like a skeleton, barely clinging to life.

But now here he was, alive and well, just as he used to be. The moment she heard his voice, her heart nearly stopped, tears instantly welling up in her eyes—though she forced them back through sheer willpower.

When he sat beside her, God knew how badly she wanted to throw herself into his arms and sob. But the setting demanded restraint. All three of them wore disguises, their real faces hidden beneath masks. If they were discovered now, the fallout would be catastrophic.

If Mr. Ford found out they had met ahead of schedule, there was no telling what obstacles he might throw in their way. She couldn’t afford to lose anything else. Just six more months—she could endure it.

But the fear gnawed at her. A deep, relentless terror.

Megan tightened her grip on his hand. "For safety, we’ll leave separately. Room 336 at the Pennis Hotel."

The man gave a soft hum of acknowledgment. "Good service there. I’ll give them five stars."

Megan shot him a sidelong glance. "You’ve gotten smooth with your words."

His fingers traced slow circles against her palm. "Taste and see for yourself."

Megan tried to pull her hand back—his touch sent tingles up her spine, and her heart fluttered. "Seems like you’ve been practicing a lot these past few years."

The man chuckled, his voice low and teasing. "Plenty stored up, just for you. You’ll see tonight."

Beneath her mask, Megan’s face burned crimson. She could practically feel the heat radiating from her cheeks. "Stop messing around."

"Mommy, who are you talking to?" Ethan glanced over, his eyes narrowing. "Oh, it’s you again, weirdo! Always creeping on married women!"

"This is Mommy’s old classmate, Ethan. Say hello."

Ethan studied her with a skeptical frown, then leaned in and whispered, "Mommy, are you cheating on Dad? You’re wearing a disguise, and this guy still recognized you? Be honest—are you planning to run off with him?"

Megan exhaled sharply. This kid was way too sharp for his own good. "What if Mommy wants to get you a new daddy? How would you feel about that?"

Ethan sized up the man with a critical eye. "I respect your choices. Sure, this guy’s build and height are similar to Dad’s, but let’s be real—Dad’s way better-looking. Plus, he’s the richest man in the world. If you’re ditching him for this guy, you might be a little nuts... but hey, you do you. I can roll with it. Call me adaptable."

Megan sighed and turned to the man. "You heard him. He doesn’t care who I end up with."

"Brat," the man muttered, though his lips curled in amusement.

Ethan shot him a sidelong glare before burying himself back in his book.

’Honestly’, he thought, ’if Mom’s getting hit on even with that mask on, imagine the chaos if she took it off. Poor Dad’s just sitting at home waiting for them.’

’Sigh.’

’People change, I guess.’

But he still wanted to fight for his daddy—after all, his father seemed much more suited for his mom.

The plane landed at Nevşehir Airport in Turkey, where Megan and Ethan boarded a shuttle bus heading to a five-star hotel in Göreme.

Ethan asked, "What about that weird uncle? Weren’t you two thinking of getting together?"

Megan tapped the tip of his little nose playfully. "You didn’t like him, so I sent him away."

Ethan felt secretly pleased. After all, if his mom remarried, she might turn into a stepmother. And what if they had another kid? A full sibling would be fine, but a half-sibling? That was a whole different story.

Besides, his real dad was amazing!

In just six months, their family would be reunited.

He had to make sure his dad’s spot stayed firmly secured.

What Ethan didn’t know, however, was that the "weird uncle" had taken another shuttle bus to the exact same hotel—and had been assigned Room 338, right next to theirs.

Exhausted from the journey, Megan took Ethan to the hotel’s buffet restaurant for dinner.

Having stayed at the Tranquil Dawn Temple for so long, and out of consideration for Samantha and the others who were vegetarian, they had avoided eating too much meat. As a result, Ethan hadn’t had many chances to indulge.

When he saw the Turkish clay pot stew, savory freshly baked börek, sizzling kebabs, and roasted eggplant specialties, his little mouth watered uncontrollably.

"Mom, can I have all of this?"

Watching Ethan’s eager, almost desperate expression, Megan felt a pang of guilt. All these years, he had missed out on so many delicious foods.

"Go ahead, but don’t overdo it. Too much might upset your stomach."

Ethan picked up his spoon and began eating with enthusiasm, though his excitement didn’t override his table manners.

A man wearing a different face and attire sat not far from them, silently watching the little boy enjoy his meal with bittersweet emotions.

His gaze briefly met Megan’s in the air before they both turned their attention back to their own meals.

An hour later, Ethan patted his round little belly and said, "Mommy, I’m full. Can we go for a walk outside?"

"Sure," Megan replied, taking his small hand as they headed out of the hotel.

Perched at the highest point of the town, the hotel offered a panoramic view of the nightscape. Twilight had settled in, and the distant lights shimmered like dazzling amber, breathtakingly beautiful.

Megan and Ethan sat together on a large boulder.

Ethan suddenly asked, "Mommy, do people’s hearts change?"

Megan looked at her precocious son and pulled him closer, wrapping an arm around his slender shoulders. "Hearts can change, but it depends on the person."

"Then... has your heart changed toward Daddy?"

"Never."

"Really? What about that strange man?"

Meeting Ethan’s clear, innocent eyes, Megan replied softly, "He’s gone. Like a bus reaching its stop—it was time for him to get off."

Ethan seemed to understand. At least Mommy hadn’t left with that strange man—his daddy still had a chance.

Leaning against Megan, he drifted off to sleep without realizing it.

Megan cradled the boy’s slender frame as she carried him toward the hotel, a towering man trailing silently behind them.

Back in the suite, she gently undressed little Ethan and tucked him beneath the covers. Exhausted from the journey, the child fell into a deep sleep almost instantly.

Stepping into the bathroom, Megan stood before the mirror and peeled off the unremarkable mask concealing her features. In an instant, the reflection revealed a face of breathtaking beauty—one that could topple kingdoms. Yet the cascade of silver-white hair framing it carried an air of melancholy.

A faint blush crept across her cheeks at the thought of soon meeting Tristan.
