The Hunter's Lively Wife-Chapter 26 - : Not Convinced
Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Not Convinced
Su Yunjin had taken her medicine, and Gu Ya told her to rest well before he left without telling Su Yunjin where he was going. Having crossed over, Su Yunjin had been lying in the house the whole time and still didn’t know what the situation outside the Gu Family’s home was like.
So she decided to go out and take a look.
Pushing open the door, a burst of fresh air hit her in the face.
It was a bit cool.
And it carried the sweet scent of wild fruits.
The place was up in the mountains, and it had rained the night before, making the air especially fresh in the morning; it smelled extraordinarily pleasant. Su Yunjin took a deep breath and couldn’t help but sigh that this was one good thing about ancient times, the air was fresh, such air is hard to come by in the big cities of modern times.
...
After taking a few breaths, Su Yunjin turned her gaze towards the courtyard. The Gu Family’s yard was quite large, enclosed by a fence, with vegetables planted inside. There was also a well, with several wooden buckets tied with thick yellow ropes beside it, which the Gu Family often used to draw water.
Su Yunjin then looked at the other houses of the Gu Family. Except for two houses that were neatly built and in good shape, all the other houses were as shabby and dilapidated thatched cottages just like the one she was staying in now!
Not a single window or door was intact.
She knew the Gu Family was poor.
But after seeing the outside, Su Yunjin couldn’t help but rub her forehead. The Gu Family was indeed extraordinarily poor!
“Yo, third sister-in-law, you’re up?” Mrs. Han, who was married to the fourth brother, was just about to go to the fields to work with the people of the Gu Family, holding a sickle in her hand.
The Gu Family had several acres of land at the foot of the mountain, and now that harvest season had arrived, everyone in the Gu Family had to go to the fields to collect the crops.
Mrs. An, the mother-in-law coming over, also looked at Su Yunjin, her eyes showing the same concern Su Yunjin had seen when she first woke up, “Third daughter-in-law, you’re up? Do you feel any better now?”
Su Yunjin nodded to her mother-in-law, “Mother, after taking the medicine, I feel much better.”
Mrs. Zhang, who was following behind Mrs. An, overheard Su Yunjin’s remark.
“Mother, you heard the third brother’s wife say she’s fine now. Shouldn’t she join us in the field to harvest the grain?”
Why should Su Yunjin be able to do nothing? They were all daughters-in-law of the Gu Family, and if they had to go to the field to harvest grain, then so should Su Yunjin!
Mrs. An, who had just managed to wake Su Yunjin up, was protective of her son Gu Ya and was afraid that if something happened to Su Yunjin, it would prevent her son from having a wife.
She immediately glared at Mrs. Zhang, “Eldest daughter-in-law, your third sister-in-law has just woken up; how can she do such work in the field?”
“Mother, how can she not do it? You really favor the third sister-in-law too much! Since she says she’s all right, then she ought to go with us to the field to harvest! In other families, several grown men go down to the fields, but what about our family? Father and third brother can’t go to the field, that’s two able men missing for farming work. If the third sister-in-law doesn’t go as well, when will we ever finish harvesting those few acres of grain?”
Mrs. Han wasn’t convinced!
She spoke up before her elder sister-in-law, Mrs. Zhang, could reply!
Mrs. An was protecting Su Yunjin, not wanting her to go down to the field, and Mrs. Zhang was so annoyed that she snorted.
“Even if she cannot do the work in the fields, surely she can handle cooking for everyone at home, right?”
Cooking indeed wasn’t tiring, and was far less strenuous than harvesting grain in the fields. Mrs. An subconsciously glanced at Su Yunjin and hesitated, “This…” After a moment’s hesitation, Mrs. An still decided to let Su Yunjin make up her own mind, “Third daughter-in-law, would you have a problem with cooking lunch for everyone at noon?”
“Sure, mother, let me take care of cooking lunch for everyone!” The Gu Family members had all gone down to do farm work, and the fact that she didn’t have to go was already a stroke of luck for her. Su Yunjin was willing to agree to cook for everyone.
Since Su Yunjin had agreed, Mrs. An had nothing more to say.
And so, cooking lunch was left to Su Yunjin.
