The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 132: Strike First, or Suffer Disaster
Chapter 132: Strike First, or Suffer the Consequences
Tristan Sterling looked at the determination in Thomas Sterling’s eyes and said no more. "Suit yourself."
He turned, got in his car, and left.
Thomas Sterling stood rooted to the spot, watching the car until it disappeared from sight. Only then did he pull back his gaze and walk toward his own villa.
Melissa slept soundly until dawn.
The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Aunt Evelynn. She giggled happily. "Good morning, Aunt Evelynn."
Rachel kissed her on the forehead. "Good morning, Melissa."
Melissa hugged Rachel’s neck and gave her another kiss.
Rachel and Melissa played on the bed for a while before Rachel carried her to the bathroom to get washed and ready. Melissa had brought her own toiletries from home.
She dressed her in a skirt and combed her hair.
She styled Melissa’s hair into a low ponytail. ’She really couldn’t compare to Tristan Sterling; she had to admit, the hairstyles Tristan gave Melissa were always beautiful.’
Once they were ready, Rachel took Melissa’s hand and led her downstairs.
She skipped all the way.
Downstairs, they saw Stella.
「Last night.」
June Jennings and Stella had stayed over. They had made plans to go out and have fun together today.
Just then, Peter Preston and June Jennings came in from outside.
June Jennings had gone out for a morning workout again.
"Melissa, good morning!" June Jennings greeted her.
"Good morning, Aunt June."
Rachel said, "Hurry up and get washed. It’s time for breakfast."
"Okay."
A short while later, Thomas Sterling arrived.
Today, they were going to an event for a very popular game made by his company.
Thomas Sterling had invited Rachel a while back, asking her to cosplay a popular female character from the game.
Rachel hadn’t refused. ’She’d never been to an event like this before and found it quite novel.’
She had planned to bring Melissa along for the fun.
After breakfast, Rachel and June Jennings got into Thomas Sterling’s car with Melissa and Stella.
「At ten o’clock.」
They arrived at the event venue.
Rachel went backstage to change into her costume.
The game also had child characters, and costumes had been prepared for the two little ones to wear.
Melissa and Stella were overjoyed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
June Jennings stayed with them.
The makeup artists began to apply makeup on them.
The two children were ready in about half an hour. Rachel’s preparations took two hours. June Jennings, who was also ready early, looked after the kids, snapping photos nonstop with her camera.
’They were just too adorable!’
When Rachel finally emerged, fully dressed and made up, the two little girls were completely stunned.
"Aunt Evelynn is so pretty, so pretty! She’s a fairy from the heavens!" Melissa was beside herself with excitement.
Rachel was cosplaying the game’s most popular goddess-level character, and she looked practically identical to her in-game counterpart.
When Thomas Sterling came in and saw her, the astonishment in his eyes was impossible to hide. He couldn’t help but exclaim, "You look like you walked straight out of the game’s 3D model!"
Rachel smiled. "I’m about to die of exhaustion."
Still, it was her first time trying something like this, and she was thoroughly enjoying it.
"I’ll treat you all to a big dinner tonight."
June Jennings snapped a photo of Rachel with her phone and sent it to her brother. "Guess who this fairy is?"
Julian Jennings replied quickly: "Where did you and Rachel go to have fun today?"
June Jennings wrote: "We’re at an event for Thomas’s company game. Rachel is cosplaying a character. Beautiful, right?"
Julian Jennings: "Yes, very beautiful. You guys have fun, and take good care of the kids."
June Jennings: "Bro, a friendly reminder from your dear sister: a Lady Willow isn’t just going to fall into your lap from the heavens. Look at how proactive Thomas is. He’s way better at charming people than you are."
Julian Jennings: "Rachel isn’t divorced yet."
June was about to say something, but Rachel looked at her. "June, what are you chatting about? Let’s go."
"Oh, okay."
June Jennings quickly replied to her brother: "Gotta go, talk later."
Julian Jennings: "Okay."
A huge crowd had come to the event today.
When they went out with Melissa and Stella, they had them wear fox masks from the game. There were bound to be a lot of photos taken today, and they didn’t want the children’s faces ending up online.
Bodyguards followed them the entire time.
There were quite a few cosplayers invited today, but the moment Rachel appeared, she captured nearly every eye and camera lens.
June Jennings’s costume was simpler; she spent the whole time taking pictures with her camera.
It was Melissa’s and Stella’s first time at an event like this, seeing so many people.
Stella was doing a bit better, as June Jennings had taken her traveling all over the world before.
Melissa had always been very sheltered and had never experienced such an occasion, having very little contact with the outside world. But she wasn’t scared at all. In fact, she was having a great time, as if she had discovered a new and wondrous world.
They wore cute fox masks, and many people, charmed by their cuteness, asked to take pictures with them.
Melissa was delighted to be liked by all the "uncles and aunts" and cooperated happily for photos, but the two children kept their masks on the entire time.
Around three-thirty, Rachel could finally sit down, rest, remove her makeup, and change her clothes.
They sat in the lounge, resting and looking at the scenery outside.
"Did you have fun today, Melissa?"
Sipping her juice, Melissa said, "I did! I got lots of little gifts from the aunties."
Rachel gently ruffled Melissa’s hair.
Rachel looked at June Jennings. "Send me the photos you took when you get back."
Melissa chimed in, "Aunt June, I want the photos too."
"Alright."
That evening, Thomas Sterling took them out to dinner.
It was at a French restaurant.
During the meal, Rachel received a call. She recognized the number on the caller ID instantly.
She answered, her voice cool. "Hello? What is it?"
A man’s deep, magnetic voice came from the other end of the line. "Bring Melissa back tonight. I need to take her out tomorrow."
Although Rachel was reluctant, she could only agree. "Fine, I understand."
After hanging up, Melissa looked at Rachel. "Aunt Evelynn, was that Daddy on the phone?"
"Yes. Your dad needs to take you out for something tomorrow. After we eat, Aunt Evelynn will take you home."
Melissa pouted. "What could be so important!"
’I wanted to go home with Aunt Evelynn tonight!’
After dinner, everyone was tired, so they prepared to head home.
Julian Jennings drove over to pick up June Jennings and Stella.
Julian Jennings and Rachel exchanged a few words, then said their goodbyes.
Rachel got into Thomas Sterling’s car with Melissa.
Once in the car, Stella quickly fell asleep against her mother.
June Jennings held the child in her arms and sighed. "Bro, do you even understand what ’strike first, or suffer the consequences’ means?"
"Mom has nearly prayed at every Cupid’s Shrine in the country. If you don’t bring a girlfriend home this year, she’s seriously going to hire a Taoist priest to check the house’s feng shui."
Julian Jennings chuckled. "Then you should try to talk some sense into her."
June Jennings said, "What good would it do if I talked to her? It’s up to you, bro, to get things done."
Julian Jennings stared at the road ahead and said no more.
Thomas Sterling drove Rachel and Melissa back to the Silvermist Bay Villa.
Melissa was exhausted today. She hadn’t taken a nap at noon and was now fast asleep.
Rachel carried the sleeping Melissa out of the car, into the villa, and to the living room.
