The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 152: That Matter About My Father, Do You Still Remember?
Chapter 152: You Still Remember About Investigating My Father’s Case?
Tristan Sterling coolly withdrew his gaze. He sat down in the head seat and said, "Everyone, please be seated."
Everyone sat down.
Rachel Royce didn’t spare him a single glance the entire time.
She only heard him say gently to Claire Ainsworth, "Claire, you can head out first."
Claire Ainsworth bit her lip and nodded, then left the conference room with her laptop.
Mark Chapman would be taking the minutes from now on.
"Let’s continue," Tristan Sterling said.
The vice president replied, "Yes, sir."
The meeting resumed.
For the remainder of the meeting, Tristan Sterling simply listened quietly without offering any opinions.
「Half an hour later.」
The meeting concluded.
Tristan Sterling ended by offering a few remarks regarding the partnership.
Then he stood up and said to Rachel Royce, "Come to my office."
Everyone was surprised.
Rachel Royce’s hands paused as she gathered her documents. She looked up at him, but before she could say anything, Tristan Sterling had already strode out of the conference room with one hand in his pocket. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
The Cedarwood executives watched Tristan Sterling leave.
The others filed out of the conference room one by one.
The vice president said a few more words to Rachel Royce and her team.
It was already noon.
The vice president invited them to have lunch in the company cafeteria.
Naturally, it was an invitation they couldn’t refuse.
The vice president said politely to Rachel Royce, "Since President Sterling needs to speak with you, Miss Evelynn, we’ll head downstairs first."
Rachel Royce nodded lightly. She handed her laptop bag to Miles Sheldon, then took the elevator upstairs and familiarly made her way to the door of Tristan Sterling’s office.
Mark Chapman was just coming out.
When he saw Rachel Royce, he felt an inexplicable sense of unease. He now knew her true identity and her current standing in the industry, which was far beyond his own.
Rachel Royce merely gave him a cool glance.
Mark Chapman stepped aside. "Miss Evelynn, please come in."
Rachel Royce strode inside.
Tristan Sterling was sitting behind his desk. He was alone in the office.
"What did you want to see me about?" Rachel Royce asked, walking forward.
Only then did the man look up at her. "Melissa’s parent-teacher conference is tomorrow at ten in the morning. You go."
Hearing this, Rachel Royce froze for a moment.
She hadn’t expected Tristan Sterling to call her up here just for this.
’I thought he wanted to do something for Claire Ainsworth.’
"You could have told me over the phone. You didn’t need to call me up here separately."
She avoided seeing him whenever possible these days.
Tristan Sterling stared at her. "Oh? Can you receive calls from a number you’ve blocked? Does your phone have some new advanced technology?"
Only then did Rachel Royce realize she had blocked his number some time ago.
But his sarcastic tone made her extremely uncomfortable. "You could have told Melissa and had her pass the message to me."
Tristan Sterling retorted, "And should I have passed on your real identity to her as well?"
Rachel Royce was speechless.
’This bastard is doing this on purpose just to annoy me.’
She took a deep, silent breath to calm herself and said coldly, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving."
With that, she turned to leave without waiting for his reply.
But as she turned, she heard him add, "We also need to talk about KU’s operations."
At his words, Rachel Royce’s steps faltered, and she turned back to look at him.
Last night, she had received a call from the United States. The equity transfer between NS and Silvercrest was complete, and a meeting with relevant investment personnel had been arranged to discuss the company’s investment and operational issues for the second half of the year.
This was a matter that required Rachel Royce’s personal decision.
She had originally booked a flight to the United States for a business trip next week.
But now, Tristan Sterling was saying he intended to discuss it with her directly.
"What do you want?"
The first thing he does after the acquisition is complete is come after KU. ’Tristan Sterling is clearly targeting me.’
Tristan Sterling glanced at the document in his hand. "I don’t have time today. Wait for my call to schedule it."
Rachel Royce clenched her fists, suppressing her emotions, and turned to stride away.
She didn’t go to the cafeteria.
Instead, she took the elevator down and left the building.
She made a quick call to Miles Sheldon to let him know.
After hanging up, she walked through the security gate and saw Suzanne Sullivan heading toward her.
Rachel Royce merely shot her an indifferent glance and continued walking straight toward the exit.
Suzanne Sullivan watched her, and just as Rachel was about to pass by, she suddenly called out, "Miss Evelynn."
Rachel Royce paused and turned back to look at Suzanne Sullivan, her voice cold. "President Sullivan, is there something you need?"
Suzanne Sullivan looked at the woman’s cold expression and suddenly didn’t know what to say. She wasn’t even sure why she had called out to her.
Seeing that Suzanne Sullivan was just staring at her without speaking, Rachel Royce frowned slightly. Just as she was about to leave, she heard her say, "About what happened with my mother last time... I’d like to apologize to you on her behalf."
Rachel Royce sneered, "President Sullivan, you’re not just a good sister, but a good daughter too. If you hadn’t brought it up, I would have forgotten all about it. But there’s no need for an apology. If I get the chance, I’ll make sure to return the slap myself."
With that, she strode away.
Suzanne Sullivan stood frozen, watching the woman’s retreating back until she disappeared completely through the doorway. Only then did she withdraw her gaze and walk toward the elevators.
The receptionist hurried forward to swipe her access card.
Suzanne Sullivan went to Tristan Sterling’s office. Seeing he was still busy, she asked, "Where’s Claire?"
Tristan Sterling looked up at her, a faint smile on his lips. "What, are you afraid she’s suffering here?"
Suzanne Sullivan sat down on the sofa and smiled. "On the contrary, I hope she actually learns something from enduring a bit of hardship here."
Claire Ainsworth graduated from a prestigious university abroad. Her ability to learn isn’t poor, but she’s been coddled since she was young and is unwilling to work hard. Her family pampers her, and Tristan Sterling is also very generous with her.

That’s why she’s only suited to be a beautiful princess, kept and cared for by others.
It was her own idea to suddenly start working at Tristan Sterling’s company.
"If she wants to learn, of course I’ll teach her."
"Well, I hope Claire can be a bit more mature in the future. By the way, I just ran into Evelynn downstairs. She didn’t look too happy. Did you two have another fight?" Suzanne Sullivan asked.
Tristan Sterling said, "We didn’t fight. We were just discussing work."
Suzanne Sullivan didn’t press the matter.
The two of them chatted about other things.
When they were done, the two of them prepared to go to lunch together.
As they left the office, Suzanne Sullivan suddenly thought of something and asked, "Oh, right, there’s something I wanted to ask you."
"What is it?" Tristan Sterling asked.
Suzanne Sullivan asked, "Do you still remember that favor I asked you five years ago? To look into my father."
At her words, Tristan Sterling’s pupils constricted slightly, but his voice was natural. "I remember. Do you want to find them now?"
Suzanne Sullivan’s gaze fell on the path ahead. "Finding them now would only bring them unnecessary trouble. I was just suddenly curious how they’re doing these days."
She wasn’t exactly living a peaceful life; too many eyes were watching her.
So many years have passed.
’Dad has probably started a new family by now.’
’My sister should be married already.’
’To my father and sister, I’m probably just a stranger now.’
As she thought of this, a flicker of loneliness, almost imperceptible, crossed Suzanne Sullivan’s eyes.
Tristan Sterling glanced sideways at her, then said, "I’ll have someone look into it for you. I’ll call you when I have news."
Suzanne Sullivan hummed in acknowledgment.
