The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 157: The Future Richest Woman
Chapter 157: The Future Richest Woman
Julian Jennings didn’t try to hide it.
Two investment firms in Hong Kong had suddenly sold off nearly a hundred million Hong Kong dollars worth of Eastgate stock.
Julian had noticed their movements early on, so he’d been on guard. Cedarwood was involved, and Tristan Sterling wanted to short Eastgate.
He hadn’t expected them to make a move so quickly.
"I have to handle things here. Next week, you and Ian go to Portington for the signing with Hector Ainsworth."
"Okay. Professor, will you be able to handle it?" Rachel Royce was very worried.
Julian Jennings said, "Cedarwood’s sudden move yesterday did catch me by surprise. But Eastgate isn’t completely unprepared. It just might take some effort."
"Okay."
The competition between the two investment firms had been particularly fierce over the past couple of years. Their conflict had gotten so bad that they’d been summoned for a talk by the government.
"Oh, one more thing," Julian Jennings added. "I just got word today that Suzanne Sullivan is interested in acquiring Prodigy."
"What?"
Rachel Royce was stunned.
Acquisition plans were usually corporate secrets. It seemed Julian had gotten the information from Hector Ainsworth, thanks to their partnership.
"I’ll talk to Henry York. Have Peter Preston keep an eye out."
Rowan had previously invested in Prodigy, and Director Yates was in charge of it.
"Okay."
She hung up the phone.
Seeing Rachel Royce’s grim expression, June Jennings asked with concern, "Rachel, what’s wrong?"
Rachel Royce said, "I need to find my brother first."
June Jennings followed her, asking the nanny to come watch the two children.
When they got to the living room, they saw Peter Preston and Thomas Sterling discussing something.
"Peter, Thomas."
Peter Preston noticed her expression was off and said, "What’s wrong?"
Rachel Royce sat on the sofa and asked, "Peter, you mentioned before that you and Raymond Reynolds weren’t seeing eye to eye on your partnership. Have you sorted it out yet?"
Raymond Reynolds was the one who had co-founded the company with Peter Preston. They had been classmates from high school through college and had always been very close.
Raymond had even been over to their house for dinner before. Rachel had met him and could tell from his conversation that he was a rather aggressive person.
Peter’s steady nature was a perfect complement to him. A company in a high-growth phase needed someone with that kind of drive.
Since Rachel Royce had asked, Peter Preston didn’t hide it anymore. "Ascendant wants to partner with Prodigy. They’re bringing a lot of capital and market access, and Raymond is taking their offer very seriously."
Although Ascendant’s growth had stagnated in recent years, its foundations were deep. Even facing a surge of powerful new tech companies, Ascendant still controlled key partnership markets.
After several years of rapid development, Prodigy had already begun collaborating with government-related aerospace entities.
Peter wanted to slow the company’s pace for a while, seeking steady progress.
But Raymond, seeing how well the company was doing, had grown more ambitious and wanted to take it to the next level.
So the rift between their opinions was growing wider and wider.
Raymond was very tempted by the olive branch Ascendant was extending. The main reason was that in Prodigy’s early days, they had sought a partnership with Ascendant.
But they were flatly rejected.
Now, Ascendant was coming to them, begging for a partnership. Even after being rejected once, they kept sweetening the deal. Their humble posture was a huge balm to Raymond’s once-trampled pride.
Raymond had unilaterally agreed to partner with Ascendant and signed a letter of intent. Peter had only found out yesterday.
The two of them had argued at the office.
As Rachel listened to Peter, her expression grew grave. "It looks like Ascendant is targeting Raymond to get their foot in the door. Professor Gage called me and said Suzanne Sullivan wants to acquire Prodigy. This partnership must be a front."
The expressions on both Peter Preston and Thomas Sterling changed.
Thomas Sterling said with a grim face, "Suzanne Sullivan is certainly ambitious."
Rachel said, "Suzanne Sullivan must want Prodigy’s technology. She wants to integrate Prodigy into Ascendant."
"Peter, you have to talk to Raymond again."
Peter Preston took out his phone and dialed Raymond Reynolds’s number.
But the person on the other end immediately hung up.
Peter said, "I’m going to his house to find him now."
Rachel said, "Okay. It’s the weekend, so you and Raymond have to get this settled."
Even if Raymond had acted rashly, the two of them had built the company together from the ground up.
"I know."
Thomas Sterling said, "I’ll go with you."
Peter Preston nodded.
June Jennings was filled with worry.
But it seemed there was nothing she could do to help.
Peter Preston saw June Jennings’s worry. As he stood up and walked past her, he comforted her, "Don’t worry. It’ll be handled."
June Jennings looked up at Peter, hummed in agreement, and then said with an innocent expression, "Well, if you need an investor, I can invest too."
Because right now, aside from having more money than she could ever spend, she didn’t have much else.
Peter Preston smiled.
"Rachel, let Mom know."
"Okay. Be careful on the road."
Peter Preston and Thomas Sterling left the Royce Family’s house.
Rachel Royce watched them leave. ’I hope they can sort things out. Good thing we found out in time.’
「That afternoon.」
Rachel Royce and June Jennings took the two children out shopping. Staying at home would only lead to overthinking, so they had invited Joanna Sutton to come along.
Joanna Sutton knew about Julian Jennings going to Hong Kong.
"Tristan Sterling wants to short Eastgate? In his dreams!" Joanna Sutton fumed.
June Jennings only understood the whole story after listening to them talk.
Fortunately, Melissa and Stella were up ahead, playing by scooping up little fish in a pond with slotted spoons.
"Alright, Melissa’s here. Let’s not talk about Tristan Sterling," June Jennings reminded them.
Joanna Sutton had no choice but to shut her mouth.

June Jennings took them on a shopping spree in a luxury boutique.
"Everything in the store today, look at whatever you want, pick whatever you want. Miss Jennings is paying."
Joanna Sutton couldn’t help but laugh. "Rich ladies are just built different. Rachel, you should make a certain someone bleed a little. He cheated, so why should you be the one to leave with nothing?"
June Jennings smiled and said, "If she did that, Rachel would definitely jump straight to the throne of the world’s richest woman."
Joanna Sutton said, "In that case, I’d better start hugging the future richest woman’s thigh right now."
Rachel Royce said, "You’re all hyping me up so much. If I don’t become the richest woman, you’ll have to make up the difference."

Melissa and Stella were sitting on a sofa while a staff member helped them try on necklaces. They overheard the conversation.
Melissa immediately got up, ran to Rachel Royce’s side, and hugged her leg tightly. She looked up at Rachel and said, "I want to hug Aunt Evelynn’s thigh too!"
Stella ran over too, hugging the other leg. "I want to hug Godmom’s thigh too!"
"..."
The scene sent everyone into peals of laughter.
Rachel Royce patted the two little ones’ heads and said softly, "Alright, now’s not the time for thigh-hugging."
Just then, a staff member’s respectful greeting could be heard from the entrance. "Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Ainsworth, Miss Ainsworth..."
Hearing this, Rachel Royce instinctively looked toward the entrance.
When she saw the people who walked in, the smile on Rachel Royce’s face instantly vanished.
Joanna Sutton’s and June Jennings’s expressions weren’t any better.
When Sylvia Shannon saw Rachel Royce with Melissa, her face darkened.
Jane Sullivan looked at Rachel Royce with a complicated expression.
