The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 51: My Brain Is Sick
This is Chen Qinghan playing the strategy of openly repairing the plank roads while secretly crossing the Wei in a game with Chairman Cheng. Who is Chairman Cheng anyway? No wonder he sent people to assassinate us.
It’s still unclear whether Eyes of Golden Flame is dead, but Miss Scream definitely couldn’t survive. After all, she’s of flesh and blood, and being blown sky-high leaves no chance of survival.
Chairman Cheng has lost both people and wealth, and the resentment in his heart is hard to quell, so he will surely seek retribution from Chen Qinghan.
Chen Qinghan also relies on a big tree for shade; without a strong backing, he would have long been chopped up into dumpling filling.
"Why does Chairman Cheng want the Nine Nether Flower? Does he want to conquer the world?"
"You could say that. Whoever controls the energy source controls the wealth, not to mention that the Nine Nether Flower’s functions go beyond just providing energy."
"I believe you when you say it’s an energy body, and also when you say it’s a weapon, but not when you say it can turn into a person. Even if it could turn into a person, what’s the use?"
"Based on Boss Lu’s situation, we probably misunderstood the murals earlier. The Nine Nether Flower doesn’t turn into a person, but it can parasitize inside a human body."
"Can we stop using the word ’parasitize’?"
"Parasitize is for others, but for you, it should be..."
"What is it?"
"You’ll know when you recover your memory."
"How do you know my memory can even be recovered? What if it can never be restored?"
"I have confidence in you." Chen Qinghan’s words carried no hint of jest, especially sincere.
I found that ever since I met him, the questions I ponder have increased, like memories.
In the ancient tomb for so many years, I never thought about recovering my memory; what was forgotten was simply forgotten, anything I could forget was surely no big deal.
Life was mostly passing by idle, using my brain less, sleeping more.
"For your sake, and to help me, try to recall, okay?"
Again with the tone used to coax a child, I rolled my eyes at Chen Qinghan.
Yet, despite my disdain on the surface, my mind was racing, recalling... recalling what exactly?
I instinctively reached into my pocket, feeling the uniquely shaped compass.
Suddenly I felt extremely dizzy, with the surrounding mountains and roads twisting and distorting, the scenery around me replaced, as if I was on a vast ocean.
Looking up, the sky was lightning and thunder; looking down, the deck was blood-red. Around me were raging waves, but the ship beneath me was steady as Taishan, unaffected by the storm, gently sailing through it.
In my hand was the nine-grid compass, and suddenly someone called me from behind, a woman’s voice in a language I didn’t understand.
Like in a dream from a few days ago, her language was incomprehensible, yet I understood her intentions.
It was like communication of the mind; I could directly read her thoughts.
However, sharp pain interrupted my thoughts, like a steel needle being driven into my brain.
I almost leaped from my seat, but thankfully Chen Qinghan freed a hand to press down on my shoulder.
"What’s wrong?" Chen Qinghan pulled the car over to the side of the road, evidently startled by me.
"Headache." My inner panic was indescribable. For a millennium zombie immune to blades and pain, the pain just now did more than just physical harm.
"Don’t worry, don’t overthink it, we’re almost there."
He probably couldn’t grasp my complex feelings; while I was indeed amnesic, my intelligence was intact.
The brain’s capacity is limited, remembering some things and forgetting others is normal.
I always thought this way, believing that the things I forgot were merely because too much time had passed to recall them.
But the way I just recalled, it’s definitely abnormal, indicating there is something wrong with my brain!
In my impression, scenarios of recalling the past followed by a headache only occurred in clichéd romance dramas. Regardless of an accident causing amnesia, such symptoms appear after that.
What vehicle could have hit me into amnesia? Besides, back in my burial era, there were no trains or tanks...
"Don’t force yourself if you can’t remember, we can think of other ways. There are a few more Heavenly Maiden Tombs yet to be excavated, maybe we can find something like an instruction manual there."
Chen Qinghan’s comfort didn’t work; the current problem is my brain is ill. Nine Nether Flower and the compass can be figured out differently, but what do we do if the brain is ill? Replace it?
The Uninhabited Village Chen Qinghan mentioned is located in the wilderness by the roadside, with houses built of bricks and stones, all topped with flat roofs.
Though somewhat aged, the houses suffice for sheltering from wind and snow.
Chen Qinghan moved a folding bed and bedding from the car into a brick house and handed me a power bank.
"You kind of resemble a movie spy." I took the power bank, half of the sorrow in my heart dispersed.
The bed was set up by him, the bedding laid by him; I clutched the power bank and phone, following him.
"It’s already late, play tomorrow, rest up now." Chen Qinghan spoke to me in a fatherly, kind tone.
Just turning on my phone, I saw only 2 percent battery left, so I decided to heed his advice, sleep first, and play tomorrow.
The two single folding beds were placed side by side in the empty room; if not for the aged house and bare walls, this scene would almost resemble a student dormitory.
Chen Qinghan crawled into his sleeping bag; I didn’t need warmth like him, lying atop the bag, staring blankly at the ceiling.
After a moment’s hesitation, I said, "My brain is sick."
I intended to keep this to myself, but self-pondering yielded no answers.
Chen Qinghan was the only person beside me to discuss this with; he had gained some of my trust. After considering, I felt it’d be better to voice it to him.
"Your illness, modern medicine might not cure." Chen Qinghan said seriously.
His words killed the conversation dead, which I admired, so I glared at him sideways and said, "It’s amnesia. I seemed to remember something just now, but it felt like needles stabbing my brain, preventing memories. It wasn’t that I couldn’t recall, but more like... the brain wouldn’t let me."
"You’ve never tried recalling the past?" Chen Qinghan lay on his side, resting his head with his hand.
"I’ve recalled, but they were random thoughts, nothing specific. When my mind was blank, I’d just give up."
"You were thinking of something specific just now?"
"Thinking of the compass, wasn’t it you who said perhaps seeing it would help me remember something?"
"Then did you remember anything?"
"A stormy sea, a red ship, and someone speaking to me, asking if I really wanted to do it, and then the headache."
After hearing this, Chen Qinghan paused for a few seconds: "Did you ever consider that your clansmen might still be around?"
Chen Qinghan was precise with his words; according to our burial customs of sea-encompassing tombs, the ’Heavenly Maiden’ group might have long been in a scattered state.
Calling them a country might not be accurate, so referring to them as clansmen seems more fitting.
