The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 167: Disturbed (2)
Chapter 167: Disturbed (2)
"What is this house used for? There are plenty of rooms in the palace so it couldn’t be for guests right?" Hazel questioned, looking around the outside of the small mansion.
"It was a gift from one of my relatives to his lover. I was told that it ended up never getting used by the woman. Why stay in this house when there is a grand palace and the man you are sleeping with is ruling it? Now, it is just for an escape sometimes," Tobias answered.
If Tobias could not make it out of the palace, he came here.
"I see. What a wonderful gift," Hazel replied.
"You can say that it was a foolish idea. If it makes you feel any better, the woman it was meant for died. The reason the king built it as a gift was because the queen wanted the woman out of the palace or she would kill her. The lover didn’t want to go and ended up dead. There are many good stories in the palace records meant for us royals," said Tobias.
"I must take a look. So, what happened to the queen? Was she punished for killing the king’s lover?" Hazel wondered as she imagined the king might have been furious.
"Nothing. The king also loved the queen and moved on to another woman. In the end, palace funds were wasted for this. So, we’re making good use of it."
Hazel entered as Tobias held the door open for her. "I’m surprised you spend time reading those kinds of stories. It is something I would enjoy."
"I didn’t purposely go looking for those ones. I have been reading about the past since I was younger to give any forgetful fool a lesson about the past. Like why the selection needs to be stopped. It was only good this once," Tobias said as he wouldn’t have married Hazel if not for it.
"That was a nice save. So, are we truly the only ones here?" Hazel questioned, not believing it.
There had to be someone around some corner to keep an eye on them or in an hour or so someone would disturb them. This was too good to be true if they would not be disturbed.
"We are alone," Tobias answered.
Hazel placed her hands behind her back and sneaked over to Tobias as he was busy looking out a window. "There won’t be anyone coming to us like the guard earlier?"
Tobias looked down at Hazel’s hands holding his waist. Already she was starting something he would gladly finish. "Not unless they want to lose their heads. I must learn when your mood changes to make you so bold."
"I am always bold. I was bold to reject a dance with a prince," Hazel replied.
"That is true. What now? Do you want to stand here holding me or explore and make use of the bed we shall use?"
Hazel shook her head. "You never miss the chance. It is too soon."
"How many times must I say that making love isn’t for only at night? It is for whenever you are in the mood," Tobias said, placing his hands over Hazel’s to feel her wedding ring.
"I know that, but if we do it now, we’ll just spend the rest of the day lying around in bed. That isn’t so bad, but we’ll both be busy soon as I want to make the most of this time," Hazel answered.
"I am great at doing many things at once," Tobias replied, chuckling after Hazel playfully touched his back. "What do you want to do?"
"Cheer you up. You were angered twice over others’ mistakes. I would like to make you happy again. Would going to bed now-"
"No," Tobias answered, turning to face Hazel. "I would hate for you to think that to please me we need to sleep together. Though I want you right now, I enjoy doing other things with you. I will stop joking around about taking you to bed."
"I know that it is not all that you want from me. Perhaps," Hazel paused, looking off to the side. "It wouldn’t be so bad to spend the rest of the day in bed. We have one more free day to do many things together. Which room will we be using?"
Seeing his caring side, Hazel couldn’t ignore the sudden need to be close to him. Tobias being a gentleman would always make her want to have him.
"You’re a tease, Hazel. Let me lift you- Fucking hell," Tobias cursed as a knock at the door interrupted the peace.
For a second, Tobias seriously thought of killing the person. This was purpose work now as they were waiting for moments he greatly enjoyed to come to disturb his time with Hazel.
Hazel touched Tobias’s arm to calm him. "It must be to take you to court. I don’t mind waiting for you to return. It must be urgent for them to need you. I do think someone enjoys trying to part us, but you should go."
"If it is an urgent matter, they should state it to the guards to pass to me. An hour has gone by since we saw the guard so how urgent could it be? I am not leaving," Tobias declared.
One matter would turn to having him sit to listen to many.
"They are just going to keep coming to disturb us until you go. I will explore the house and finish reading the books you picked while you are away. We don’t even know why someone is at the door so why get angry? I refuse to let this ruin our day," Hazel said, stepping away from Tobias to go to the door.
The disturbances felt normal to Hazel. The peace they had for a few hours was a treat and now it was back to them being needed for something. It wouldn’t surprise Hazel if Tabitha were to call her somewhere to sit down either just the two of them or with other women.
Tobias walked over to the door to beat Hazel to open it. He would be the one to have to speak to the fools disturbing them.
Hazel smiled, standing back to let Tobias handle it. While he spoke with who was at the door, she started to look around at the decor. It was strange to think about the fact they were going to sleep in a mansion meant for a mistress.
"I wonder why the queen didn’t have it destroyed or at least tried to burn it down. I would have," Hazel thought out loud.
If Tobias were to lose his senses and do something foolish like the king did, Hazel might bring chaos to the palace. It might be the one time she didn’t act like a lady as he had gotten her to trust him so much and to love him too far for him to break that trust.
Hazel noted to visit the library to read more about this story. What did the queen do after another woman was with the king?
"Hazel, I must leave," Tobias said, his voice filled with frustration. "A noble family died today. I must give my condolences to their grieving son Simon and then return."
"Shouldn’t I come along?" Hazel asked.
"No. I prefer that you stay here away from all the crying and questioning. I won’t be gone long," Tobias promised. He was making a stop at the court to satisfy his father and those who wanted him there and then he was coming right back here.
If they wanted Tobias to do something else, they would need to catch him and tie him to a chair.
Hazel didn’t understand why the message that someone had died wasn’t shared in the beginning. It was a bit fishy that an hour later they were sending someone and revealing why he was needed. Still, Hazel smiled to send him off.
"I shall be waiting. If you take too long you shall miss out on a treat," Hazel teased.
Tobias grabbed Hazel’s shoulders. How was he to leave when she was speaking like this? "Don’t do this to me, Hazel."
"You should leave now to be back soon. The sooner you return, the better. Oh, but you must give a proper greeting to him," Hazel quickly spoke so Tobias would hear as he hurried out. "I hope he properly comforts the son. I shouldn’t have teased him."
Hazel watched as the door closed and she was left all alone in the mansion. This would be a good time to call for Mary, but since Tobias was in a rush to return, she didn’t think bringing Mary here for a short visit was right.
"There has to be something to do other than reading over books. He won’t be gone for long," Hazel said. "Should I finish our picnic? There is still food left."
Luckily for Hazel, she enjoyed being alone. Some time away from Tobias would leave her appreciating her time with him when he returned so she remained positive.
