The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 173: Queen Hazel (1)
Chapter 173: Queen Hazel (1)
A day later, Hazel and Tobias were back in the palace for the coronation. It was a grand event celebrated all around the kingdom from what Hazel was told.
There was an hour before the coronation and as she was already dressed, Hazel decided to take a walk to calm her nerves.
Hazel roamed the palace halls, watching as the servants and men from the court were running around to do their part for the day. The coronation already seemed more hectic than her wedding day.
"I have never seen the palace so busy," said Mary.
"The day the kingdom has a new queen and king will be chaotic at first but then appear in order when the coronation starts. There is something to enjoy about seeing everyone run around the palace trying to make the day perfect. I am no longer nervous," Hazel replied, calmed by others being everywhere.
"I imagine that it must have been scary to think about standing before many and being crowned queen. Your dress is beautiful so I know at least your portrait shall be wonderful. After sitting with the guest, you are to go to have your portrait done,’ Mary said, reminding Hazel of the message sent.
"Before then, I want to go to the gates to see the people I was told gathered there. We mustn’t ignore them. What is happening there?" Hazel questioned, looking ahead at the sight of a maid hitting another.
"That is the woman I spoke of. The one always beside the queen and does as she pleases. The maids are terrified of her," Mary said, watching Jane strike a woman. Mary was happy to be leaving the palace today with the Wallaces when they were to set off back home after the coronation. "Her name is Jane."
Hazel picked up her pace to go to intervene. Before her presence was noticed, the young woman struck by the queen’s maid pushed Jane away. Jane appeared shocked that the maid was fighting back. Hazel was also surprised since Mary said this woman tended to act as though she owned the palace
Before Jane could hit the maid again, Hazel asked, "What do you think you are doing? Who gave you the right to strike someone?"
Jane’s hand was still mid-air as she turned to Hazel. Why did Hazel have to be here now? The matter of dealing with a maid who didn’t know how to listen did not concern Hazel. Shouldn’t Hazel be sitting somewhere awaiting the start of the coronation?
"I asked you a simple question. Speak," Hazel ordered Jane. How could a maid of the queen be doing something like this? It was out in the open so Jane was bold because she knew she wouldn’t get in trouble. How long has this been going on?
"Lady-"
"Princess Hazel," Hazel corrected Jane.
"Princess Hazel, you are unaware of her actions and why I am punishing her. This is a good day for you so you shouldn’t concern yourself with this. The maid here needs scolding," Jane said, lowering her hand soon after.
"Scold with your words but even then you are not the head maid. Even if she did something to offend the queen, it is not your place to hit her. I view this as an attack on her and you should be taken to the dungeon," Hazel said, moving to stand between Jane and the maid.
Jane laughed as it was funny Hazel thought she would end up in the dungeon over something so small. "It seems to be a habit you have to make something out of nothing. It is why your time in the palace has not been so peaceful. I have been here long to offer you advice. Stay quiet, Lady Hazel."
Hazel resisted the urge to slap the mouthy maid. What was said so far was enough that she could punish Jane. It was only since Tabitha was still queen and would get Jane out of the punishment that Hazel would wait for when Tabitha could not interfere.
"I don’t need any advice from you. Should you hit another maid, acting as if you have the power to do so, I will have you taken to the dungeon and beaten. Then you will know how it feels. You should run along to be at the queen’s side," Hazel advised Jane.
"I see that the day is already getting to your head. There is much to do and learn before you can order me around. Maybe when the crown is on your head I shall listen. Just as you should have listened to the queen so you would not have ended up alone-"
Jane was silenced by a slap from Hazel. Hazel could no longer ignore the woman’s disrespect. This was not how she wanted to silence the matter, but she could not help it now.
"I don’t care who you follow in the palace one thing you cannot ignore is my position here. You are not to speak to me as you please. I question how the queen picked her ladies. You are to apologise at once for your actions against her," Hazel said, not letting Jane go without an apology. freёnovelkiss.com
Hazel didn’t care for an apology from Jane, but the maid behind her might like to hear one even if it were not genuine.
Jane clenched her fist, angered by the way Hazel was humiliating her before the two maids and the guards. Never since tending to the queen had someone done this to her. This was the thanks she got for dealing with an eavesdropping maid?
Jane stared at Hazel, not wanting to apologise at first but she had to get back to Tabitha. "I am sorry," she apologised then quickly hurried away before she could be told to do something else.
’She was quick to try making me obedient when her focus needs to be on her maids,’ Hazel thought.
Hazel turned to the maid with her head bowed. "Are you alright? You were right to defend yourself regardless of what you did. You can raise your head to look at me."
"You should thank the princess for helping you," Mary said, finding the woman’s silence to be a bit rude. Who knows what might have happened if Hazel did not step in?
Hazel knew that it might be hard for the maid to look at her because of who she was. It took a moment but the maid raised her head, revealing a bruise on her lip. "I won’t let her get away with her actions. What is your name?"
"Julia," the maid answered.
