The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 225: Secret exposed (2)
Chapter 225: Secret exposed (2)
"Lady Tabitha is in the palace."
"Is she? When the king said he wanted to move out of the palace to a mansion, not inside the gates, I thought I wouldn’t see the two often. That means that I might get to see the princess today, but honestly, I don’t think it will be long before they start living here again. There is plenty of room." said Hazel.
"I’ve overheard the maids that come with the queen say that the king enjoys the simple life. As if he is a normal person," Daisy said, sharing the gossip with Hazel. "After over twenty years of ruling, it must be good to live like everyone else in town."
"He has taken a liking to fishing. Something that the queen doesn’t enjoy since he insists on having the fish he catches every night for dinner. Jeffrey is truly enjoying his time away from the palace. It gives me something to look forward to with Tobias but I hope he wouldn’t have an interest in fishing," Hazel said as the smell would bother her.
"Was the guard certain that the king was alone? I don’t want to disturb him if he is dealing with important matters. The day is a little warm today, isn’t it?" Hazel asked, fanning herself to cool down.
Daisy stared at Hazel, confused by it being a warm day since the day was a bit chilly like there would be some rain. It was why she didn’t bother to go for a fan in case Hazel would be hot. ’Is there something wrong with me?’ Daisy wondered, touching her forehead as maybe she was sick.
"They gave their word. Your Majesty, you were also to visit the doctor," said Julia.
"The doctor can wait. The two of you have seen me take my medicine for the morning, so he does not need to worry. It is Lady Tabitha," Hazel noted, watching Tabitha speak to a man from the court.
Tabitha sent the man off in a hurry and then turned Hazel’s way.
"Hazel," Tabitha greeted with a curtsy. "Going for a morning stroll to the garden?"
"I was on my way to see the king," Hazel answered.
"Well, I’m told that my son is busy with the affairs of war and then there is something peculiar that the court is focused on. It is best that you don’t interrupt now. Why don’t you sit with me in a private room where we can’t be disturbed? There is something that I want to speak about," Tabitha said, hoping Hazel would give up on seeking Tobias.
Hazel wondered how much Tabitha knew about what was happening in the court as she mentioned that there was something peculiar. Hazel only knew what Tobias shared with her so she could offer her opinion. Where was Tabitha getting news from?
"I would be happy to join you. Daisy, please bring something light for us to eat and drink to my library," Hazel ordered.
"Your library?" Tabitha inquired, surprised to hear there was one belonging to Hazel.
"Yes. It was a gift from Tobias so I could store my books there and read them when I wanted to be alone. It is off-limits unless I am there. It was sweet of him," Hazel said, still enjoying that it belonged to her.
It was one of the many gifts from Tobias to try to make her happy after the loss of the baby. A pile of books, dresses, jewels, rare flowers, and portraits of herself were sent to her. It was more than Tobias needed to do as Hazel didn’t need any gifts but she appreciated what he did.
Tobias had helped to distract her from the loss and stayed by her side the first two weeks of her return, but then he was busy again. Not that Hazel minded as he would always come to her room at night.
"How thoughtful of him. I didn’t think my son had it in him to do such a thing. I don’t need to worry about how the two of you are getting along. He must be the light in your dark world right now. I’ve been worried about you," Tabitha revealed.
She continued, "I haven’t been here long and I am already hearing of how the queen is unable to conceive."
Hazel stopped walking, startled by the news. "What?"
"Oh, you didn’t hear it? I learned of it from my maids when they returned to me after meeting with their friends. We’ve seen how many full moons pass without news of a child from you. The people are starting to talk-"
"It is going too far to gossip that I cannot conceive. That is something to be spoken of with only me, the king, and the palace doctor. I don’t want to speak of this now when there is no telling who is around," Hazel said, continuing to walk toward the library.
"You cannot keep running from it, Hazel. If there is an issue, we must consider all other possibilities. The kingdom cannot go on for many more months without good news about an heir. We’ll end up worrying about who will sit on the throne next. Should something happen to Tobias, there will be an heir. I think it is time that we try other methods," Tabitha suggested.
"Other methods? Ha," Hazel scoffed, turning away from Tabitha. "All I need to do is share a bed with my husband. You are all putting so much pressure on me to have a child when it takes two people to do it. Then it is not to be ignored how you expect us to be in different rooms. I’ve learned that so I can be away should the king accept the women sent to him."
"My son is a healthy man. He has been looked over by the best doctors. All I was suggesting was that you speak to the palace doctors about what you can do to bring us good news. I am not against you right now. I am trying to help to take the pressure off of you. I have been there," Tabitha said, putting her hand on Hazel’s shoulder.
Tabitha’s words meant little to Hazel since all everyone around her did was put pressure on her. Each way she turned there was a mention of a baby and after losing one in secret, her emotions were getting worse when someone asked when she would be ready to have one.
Hazel stepped away from Tabitha to get the hand from her shoulder. "I understand your concern. Unfortunately, I am no longer in the mood to sit and speak. I will see the king and then return to my room."
"Hazel, I was only looking to help you," Tabitha said, annoyed that Hazel wasn’t listening. Didn’t Hazel accept to hear her opinions and follow her advice to be better? Hazel couldn’t relax in the palace until she had a baby. "You must have a baby. It is for the sake of the kingdom and your position in the palace."
"Enough," Hazel said, touching her head as there was a small ache. Anyone would have a headache after hearing the same thing over and over again. "I have been trying and whether it has been good enough for all of you is out of my control. I don’t want to speak of a baby right now."
Tabitha wasn’t ready to give up and walked behind Hazel to continue the conversation. There must be news of a baby soon so give the kingdom something to celebrate and to end worrying about an heir. The sooner the arrival of the first prince the better as Hazel needed to be quick to have more princes.
"Are you alright, Your Majesty?" Daisy questioned, offering her hand for Hazel to hold. Hazel walked with her hand on her forehead, somewhat covering her eyes leaving Daisy to fear that Hazel might trip.
"I am fine. I just need to make it back to my bedroom," Hazel replied, tightening her hold on Daisy’s hand. The headache was getting worse thanks to Tabitha continuing to speak of a baby and putting effort to try for one.
Hazel knew that it wasn’t coming from a bad place this time and Tabitha was trying to help her, but she needed the baby talk to end.
Tabitha sighed, regretting offering her help to Hazel since her words were going through one ear and out the next. "Hazel-"
"Your Majesty!" Daisy’s scream filled the quiet corridor.
Tabitha couldn’t believe the sight in front of her. At first, she thought it was a simple dramatic reaction to get out of speaking about having a baby, but when Hazel wouldn’t move after her maids kept calling to her, Tabitha knew that it wasn’t fake.
"Call for her doctor right away and get guards to lift her. Quickly!" Tabitha yelled. She moved Daisy out of the way to be close to Hazel. "Hazel, can you hear me? Not a word of what happened before this," she warned Daisy and Julia.
Knowing Tobias, he would flip this on her when she had only been trying to help Hazel. If Hazel wasn’t well, why didn’t she say something?
