Chapter 226: Secret exposed (3)

"This is bad. The king is going to question us after he sees the queen, but his mother ordered us to not say anything. I think that we should tell the truth. The queen will protect us," said Daisy.

Julia didn’t care to stay silent or reveal that Tabitha had pushed Hazel to the point of fainting. Both worked well in her favour. All that mattered was that it was now known that there was something wrong with the queen. This should reach Grant’s ears by night.

Daisy wished Julia would say something. They should be in this together when asked by the king what caused the queen to faint. "You should try speaking to us a little more."

"My focus is on the queen. Do you think this is a good time to try getting me to speak about friendships?" Julia asked.

Daisy wanted to argue but then realised that Julia was right. "I’m sorry. I just hope the king gets here soon so the queen isn’t in there with his mother for long. She might be twisting the story already. Why didn’t she just stop speaking about a baby? It is obvious that the queen disliked it."

"It is common to question a woman that has been married as much as the queen has about when there would be a child. Unless there is something to hide, a simple answer would suffice. Did you notice anything odd about the queen?" Julia asked, now wondering if Daisy helped Hazel to hide a miscarriage.

"No. What are you trying to get at?" Daisy questioned.

"I am trying to figure out if we failed to do our job to watch over the queen. If something was troubling her, we should have been the ones to notice. The king will question us about the queen’s health and we must think of what we missed. It has seemed like she has had moments of being sad," Julia said, fishing for secrets from Daisy.

"That is like everyone in the palace. They’ve been speaking about her having a baby often and then the king is always busy. Wouldn’t you be sad too? I don’t think we should mention her being sad. The king is coming so don’t say a word," Daisy whispered, then folded her lips to stop herself from making a sound.

Tobias stormed to Hazel’s bedroom and opened the doors. He found her lying on her bed, not awake with his mother and the doctor in the room. "What happened to her?"

"Tobias," Tabitha called, going to his side to stop him from getting in the doctor’s way. "The doctor is tending to her so you need to wait."

"All I want is answers to why my wife fainted. Surely he can treat her and give me answers. Or you can do that. What are you doing here?" Tobias questioned as she didn’t send any notice she would be coming to the palace.

"I am allowed to visit the palace I have lived in long before you. You are lucky that I was there to find help and get her here. You need to calm down and let the doctor take a look at her. She will be fine," Tabitha promised.

Tobias only wanted answers. He had rushed here as soon as he was told something happened to Hazel but there was still plenty of time before he got here for the doctor to have said something to his mother.

Rather than sit off to the side, he went to join Hazel on the bed, sitting beside her to hold her hand in hopes it would do something to help her.

"What are you doing?" Tobias inquired after Arlo tried to move around Hazel’s dress. "Get a maid in here if you need to move her dress. You are her doctor but there is a way that things are done here."

"I’m sorry," Arlo apologised. "There isn’t a need to bring in a maid just yet. I thought I saw blood so I was just moving around her dress to see. It could be serious or just time for the queen to bleed like other women."

"So, she wouldn’t be pregnant? Just what we need," Tabitha muttered. No wonder Hazel was so against speaking to her about a child. "Doctor, what can we do to ensure the queen has a child soon? The medicine you are giving her doesn’t seem to be working."

"Can we not talk about this now when my wife can’t speak?" Tobias questioned, glaring at his mother for that being on her mind now.

"I must check what kind of bleeding it is. If there is anything unusual then I suspect the queen was pregnant and lost a baby. Her fainting greatly concerns me unless it is her body under too much stress. I have been reading about a doctor’s theories of what he believes stress can do-"

"Now is not the time for that. Check to see what kind of bleeding it was. If she lost a child, we must-"

"Not say a word," Tobias stopped his mother. "Nothing leaves this room."

"Tobias!" Tabitha gasped, surprised that he would say that. "It must be known and discussed as we must consider what you will do. If it happens again, you must take another woman. You can still love Hazel then."

"Listen carefully, mother. Hazel is the only woman I would have a child with. Would you have liked for someone to suggest this if you were in Hazel’s position?" Tobias asked.

"When I was queen, what I wanted did not matter," Tabitha answered. It was going to hurt Hazel but it was important that Tobias had his heirs. It had been suggested a few times during Tabitha’s time as queen and she put up with the idea.

Unlike Hazel, she tried everything she could to have a child and ended up with Tobias, her precious little prince. Tobias’s reign could not be messed with now by not having an heir to follow after him. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Then you were a fool," Tobias replied, ignoring the hurt on his mother’s face. He could not feel sorry for her for staying silent about something she didn’t like. He would not allow it for his wife.

"Get out of the room so the doctor can check, Tobias. I am not going to let you go more months without there being news of a child. You can have her and a child from another woman. You don’t have to love the other. Just have the child!" Tabitha yelled. "Doctor, check what happened to her."

"Get out of this room," Tobias ordered his mother. "Unless you can put Hazel first, you cannot stay here."

Tabitha placed her hand on her head as she walked back and forth. This was a difficult position to be in. She was only thinking of what was best for Tobias, but she could not leave when he was so distraught. "Fine, we will keep it a secret if that is what happened, but this is not the last you will hear of other women if she is not pregnant."

"After this, you must get her pregnant," Tabitha advised Tobias. "Not just for your heirs but for her. I will help with her dress so doctor, please check."
