The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 325: Puppet (3)
Chapter 325: Puppet (3)
"Do you want to start another bet that he is going to kill someone? I thought there would have been a full-on fight between the guards and us when he grabbed Joel’s neck," Logan said, following behind Rafael as he pulled an unconscious Joel by his left foot.
He didn’t like Joel to lift him instead of having him taste whatever was on the ground.
"I’m a little disappointed that he didn’t kill him," Christian replied. He got excited when he saw Rafael grab Joel’s throat for nothing.
"Well if you think about it, if we kill any of the guards for simply saying something we don’t like, the court is going to be on our ass. They are already looking for a reason to complain to the king about Rafael. I’m glad he calmed down and didn’t kill Joel," Logan said, concerned about the future for Rafael. "They are going to claim he’s a traitor for being with Annalise. Thinking he was working with the enemy and that is why he finally came here."
"What if they request the king strip him of being commander?" Logan asked, turning to Christian.
"It is not like Rafael purposely led anyone to die. A few of the guards dying or getting injured was their fault. He’s pushing for peace, something the kingdom needs since the war has been going on too long. If they strip him of his title, it’s just up to us to decide if we stay as knights or follow Rafael," Christian answered.
Christian was not going to follow anyone other than Rafael especially when Rafael had not done something wrong. So what if he was in a relationship with Annalise? It wasn’t like he knew from the beginning and was conspiring with her to kill the king.
The only issue he had with Rafael’s relationship with Annalise was the mere fact the woman was crazy.
"The king sent us to find a way for this war to end and without having to lift a finger to fight, Rafael is getting that peace. Anyone who has something against that is just a fool. Still, if they request the king to toss Rafael to the side, I want to see how they’ll beg when they need us," Christian said, looking forward to it.
There were many people he came across in the palace who had a lot to say about Rafael because he had never accepted their offers to be their ally. They failed to get Rafael to deliver their messages to the king and since Rafael was also good friends with the duke who was not well-loved in the court, they didn’t like him even more.
Christian wanted Rafael to turn down some of the orders from the king sometimes so the people in the palace court would have to scramble to find someone else to protect the land. Only when they stopped marching out would the palace realise how much they needed knights.
"Christian, what would you do if Rafael wanted to stay here so he could be with Annalise?" Logan asked. He had been thinking about it for some time now that Rafael might not stay in the manor since Annalise was a princess here.
"Follow him," Christian answered without having to think about it. "It would be more fun to follow him as a king than as a commander. I would just have to move my parents here. With us here, this land would change. We all have enough money to build homes for our families. Eventually, a market would start and others would flock here to live. We could watch a new town form."
"Right," Logan said, realising the potential the land had. The knights and their families alone would be enough people for a new town. The land was spacious to make it happen and since they were involved in making it happen, their names could be remembered in history. "I would like a street called Logan."
"And suddenly I don’t want to move here," Christian muttered.
"I really hate you. We can settle for Callahan town. We’re all Callahans in a way. I need to run this idea by Rafael when he calms down. He still looks like he might kill someone if they piss him off. I can’t die yet when there’s some young lady out there waiting for me to become her husband," Logan said, pushing back his messy short hair to show off his face.
"I just might pity the next poor soul you set your eyes on and kill you to free her. What do you want us to do with him?" Christian asked Rafael since he had stopped to look at Joel still being dragged on the ground. His white guard uniform was now stained by dirt and grass.
They reached the side of the camp where the guards were and were quickly gaining attention because of Joel’s state.
"What are you doing to our captain? You’ve come here to make a joke out of us, haven’t you?" One of the guards questioned. Unlike most of his peers he truly wasn’t afraid of Rafael nor did he hate him. However, he didn’t like to see one of the guard captains being dragged around.
"It doesn’t take me to have all of you looking like a joke. This is what happens when you piss me off. How long was I supposed to listen to your shit and not react? I am saying for the last time that we will not be avenging Martin and anyone else who died today. You acted without my command and started a fight," Rafael said, looking directly into the eyes of the guard who was almost his height.
"Yes, I am courting a woman who is from the other side. Some of you might want to call me a traitor. Do as you want since it is your mouth and opinion. However, what you will not do is attack them anymore. The king sent me here to first find a peaceful way to end this war and then attack if that failed. Their leader is open to a truce and as long as you don’t attack this war will end," said Rafael.
"You have one simple order which is to not attack. Martin is gone. He is one man. If you start a fight with them, we will lose far more than one man. Hate me all you want, but if you wish to be able to leave the border and see your families soon, you should listen," Rafael advised the guards.
The knights could leave if he gave them the order, but the guards had to stay here. Spending months away from their families. Many of them had to be tired of this repeated fight. Some of the young men he saw had signed up to come here already looked like they wanted to go home. They could if they just put their weapons down.
"And what if we still want to avenge the guards who died?"
Rafael looked down at Joel who should have already been the answer to what would happen to anyone wanting to disobey his order. He wished Joel was awake to have him say how it felt to be in that position. The only good thing about Joel being unconscious was his not being able to get the guards riled up.
It was men like Joel getting in their ears and forcing them to do stupid things.
"All of you should listen carefully and do not forget my next words. Anyone who speaks of fighting, avenging Martin, picks up a weapon and starts to step over the line where the Castro kingdom ends, I will hunt you down and I will kill you," Rafael answered.
"Anyone who interferes with a truce forming will be considered an enemy of the kingdom. If you wish to disobey my order, come forward. I will deal with you now," Rafael said, unsheathing his sword to prepare for the first person.
Rafael waited for someone to come forward to him to attempt to kill him so they could go avenge Martin. "I thought you said there was noise about wanting to fight when I was away," Rafael said to Christian after no one stepped forward.
"There was," Christian replied. "Maybe those men aren’t present."
"So it seems," Rafael said, putting his sword back in the scabbard by his side. "Put together a group of knights to stand watch throughout the night. Have them kill anyone who tries sneaking off or creating more noise about fighting."
