The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 332: Not welcomed (3)
Chapter 332: Not welcomed (3)
"You seem to be enjoying this trip more than everyone. Laughing at yourself for almost falling," Rafael said. He worked on picking out the pieces of leaves that were sticking to the bottom of her dress. "The bottom of your dress is torn. We will need to find a tailor to get it fixed or just get a new dress."
"My mother said you would be like this. When we get to town, I will look for work-"
"Why?" Rafael asked, not seeing the reason for her to work when he would take care of her. She and her guards since it would be hard for them to get work once it is known who they are. "I have money to take care of you."
"Sitting around doing nothing does not suit me. I will get restless," Annalise answered.
"You can join the knights out on the training grounds. Find a new hobby. You don’t need to work, Annalise. Besides, you forget how hard it will be at first to find work if it is known who you are. You won’t be getting your job back at the manor so don’t think about it," Rafael quickly added when she opened her mouth. "I won’t stop caring for you if we are arguing with each other."
"You say that now, but what you feel can change. I would still need something to do so I don’t get bored during the day. It is not like you will be free to entertain me. You have to go back to training the knights and dealing with the palace. Unless you would like to trade places? I become the commander, and you sit around at home," Annalise suggested, liking this idea more. She could bring in the money while Rafael stayed at home.
She used a finger to poke at his right cheek just to bother him.
"That is not going to happen," Rafael replied. "I’m sure you will find something to do. You can spend your time putting together the room for your pet and making sure there is no way for it to sneak outside. You can also spend your time showing your guards around."
"What will I do when the money I have now runs out and I want to buy many things? Will you let me buy everything that I want? Spend days going around town shopping?" Annalise asked, sitting up to be at the same level as him.
Rafael didn’t feel like his money would run dry with Annalise. "It is not like you would go to town every day to buy dresses or jewels. You would want to spend money buying weapons or treats in town. When you were living in the manor, I don’t recall you going out to shop often."
Rafael believed he would be the one spending the most money for Annalise. Getting her whatever a lady like herself needed. Then there was his mother who would enjoy spoiling Annalise. There was no need for Annalise to work with him and his mother around.
"That is because I didn’t have a lot of money at my fingertips. I was being careful not to waste it. Fine, if you wish to spoil me, why should I not take the chance? I will just need to find something new to keep myself busy. Maybe look to make a friend since I might lose a few I made in the manor when I introduce myself again," Annalise said, thinking of their reactions.
She was going to be positive like she should have been when thinking of how Rafael would react to who she was. Annalise hoped that Cara, Heidi, Jonah, and Devin would not become afraid of her. Perhaps angry like Rafael for not telling them before she left, but then go back to normal.
She genuinely liked all of them and wanted to continue the friendship they formed.
"Well, there is a chance after their shock, they will speak with me. Heidi will laugh and ask me to scare someone for her. Cara might be too shocked to speak for a few days. I’m not certain if the other maids I spoke with sometimes will continue to speak with me. What will you do if some of the maids are so afraid of me they quit?" Annalise asked, curious about how he planned to handle it.
It couldn’t be helped that there was so much fear for her people. So many twisted stories place fear in the minds of people who have never met someone from her home. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Find someone willing to work," Rafael answered. Why should he waste time trying to convince someone to stay when he could let Edwin or Mavis announce that he was looking for another servant? "There will always be someone who wants work and won’t care about where you are from. All you need to do is not scare them so we do not run out of people to hire."
Annalise put up her right hand and swore, "I will not scare anyone. As long as they don’t sneak into the room for my pet. Speaking of pet-"
"Please wait until we get to the manor, Annalise. I don’t think Edgar would enjoy having a pet spider or snake in his home. I am already agreeing to let you keep one in the manor. You don’t need to rush. Shouldn’t you decorate the room first and then find your pet?" Rafael asked, using this to prolong having the pet in the manor.
"I suppose," Annalise replied, lying back down on his lap. She didn’t mind that his armour wasn’t the best thing to lie on. "I’ve never gotten to decorate a room just for a pet. I normally hide them behind my bed so my mother wouldn’t tell me to put them back. Maybe I should take my time doing that so I am not bored in the manor when you are busy. Or, maybe I can train the knights for you."
Rafael knew that wouldn’t work since the knights would not want to attack Annalise in fear of upsetting him or once they say how much she liked to fight, they might come to him and ask to be saved from her. "You can join them in training but I will not have you train them. We will figure this out when we reach the manor."
"Right. I’m just a little excited about what I will do now. Not needing to hide who I am means I can do as I want. I won’t be your maid so I won’t have to worry about being on my best behaviour so Mavis cannot fire me. I think I am most excited to see Mavis again. When she learns I am to live on the same floor as you," Annalise said, already trying to paint a picture of Mavis’s reaction in her mind.
After becoming Rafael’s maid, she was on good terms with Mavis. Mavis was starting to teach her to be a better maid and didn’t seem to dislike her any more, but Mavis was in for the shock of her life when Rafael would announce Annalise was to be treated like the lady of the manor.
"You just promised not to scare anyone," Rafael reminded Annalise.
"I won’t be scaring her. You will be," said Annalise. "I wasn’t tired before but now that I am lying on your lap, my eyes want to close. We should get up right now."
"Why? The trees are providing us with shade and there isn’t anyone around. You can get some rest on my lap and I will wake you when it is time to leave," Rafael said, willing to stay awake to let her sleep.
This was not why he brought her here, but since Annalise was excited to travel, it wasn’t easy to get her to stop and relax. He rather she slept now so she wouldn’t fall off her horse later.
"That is sweet of you, but we are sitting on the grass, and I can feel something that could become my pet crawling around under my dress," Annalise revealed, trying to think of what it might be.
