Chapter 343: New member (3)

When Rafael agreed to let Annalise have her beloved pets in his manor, he hadn’t thought she would find one the moment they returned. He had it planned out that she would put the room together first and then go looking for what she wanted to put inside the room.

It was only the first day and the maid assigned to cleaning this room would be having a heart attack when she returned. It might end up that Annalise would have to clean this room herself as the maids would be too afraid to enter.

Rafael wasn’t afraid of spiders, but he didn’t want to come in this room now and later when Annalise would add more pets. He loved everything about Annalise except this side of her.

"I have to say your reaction to seeing him was a little rude, Rafael. You need to work on that," Annalise said, taking the spider to a wall for it to have fun moving around. "You might have hurt its feelings."

"Forgive me for not saying hello when a spider was pushed toward my face. How careless of me," Rafael replied, keeping his distance to let Annalise play with her spider. Never would he have imagined needing to apologise to a spider. "We’ve not been back for long. Where did you get a spider?"

"Since I worked here as a maid, this room was never used. It must have been living here and escaping whoever cleans the room. Honestly, this shouldn’t be counted as the pet I wanted to have since this one already lives in the room. It lives in the room so I can’t send it away," Annalise said, trying her best to convince Rafael to get another.

"That’s not working on me, Annalise. We should start with only one before you have this room filled with all kinds of creatures. How did your talk go with your friend from a moment ago?" Rafael asked, curious as to whether it went positive or negative. "I’m sorry for interrupting, but it also looked like she was scared."

"Because of the spider. Heidi doesn’t like them. My talk with Heidi went well. Not so much with Cara who needs some space but I don’t mind. I would like to make Heidi my maid. Cara is already working as your maid and I feel comfortable with Heidi. I will tell Mavis after breakfast. Wasn’t her reaction to our relationship funny?" Annalise asked, chuckling as she remembered Mavis’s face from earlier.

"I hope we have not broken my head maid. I don’t want to have to look for another. Will you be packing your clothes here or in my bedroom?" Rafael asked, preferring to have her things in his bedroom.

He could stop the maids from entering his bedroom to not see that her dresses and other belongings were there.

"While your mother is here, I don’t think that is a good idea. I will move a few things there so I don’t need to rush over here before morning to get dressed," Annalise said as she watched the spider hurry away after it went up the wall.

"Is all of this even necessary for us to sneak around at night to sleep with each other? My room is right in front of your room. Everyone will assume that we are sneaking around. Why not just do it in the open?" Annalise asked.

"It is so they cannot say they saw it with their eyes that I visited your room at night. It is to help protect you as an unmarried woman-"

"But I don’t care about that. My rules back home are different and I don’t plan on changing everything I know from home to fit in here. There are too many rules that those who are judging already break. Why should I care to be perfect? I hope you understand that," said Annalise.

She didn’t want to walk around being like the women who were constantly told how ladies should act. Annalise liked the freedom of how she could behave at the border. She wasn’t planning on doing something crazy to bring attention to herself and have it affect Rafael, but she didn’t want to change so much.

"I already understand that. I won’t ask you to change what you are used to. I am only afraid of the gossip eventually getting to you. That is my only concern," Rafael said, walking further into the room now that the spider had scurried off to hide from Annalise. He couldn’t blame it.

Rafael did as he wanted since he didn’t care about what might be said about him, but as a man, there was nothing said to ruin him like it was with women. He had witnessed the lengths women would go to ruin each other. To make anyone who didn’t follow the rules become an outcast.

Annalise wasn’t an easy person to break, but if everyone were to keep coming after her, she might not stay as she was now. This was why Rafael saw all the more reason to move the knights closer to the border so Annalise could be as she wanted. freēnovelkiss.com

"I know how to handle the women here. What I will do is find out all their secrets like the good spy I am and use their secrets against them to shut them up. Or I can just ignore them. What reason would I have to meet with any of the ladies here? Do you want me to attend parties?" Annalise asked, not wanting to do it, but for Rafael, she would.

Having to wear a dress to a ball and standing around talking or doing nothing wasn’t something she enjoyed. If it was what Rafael wanted, she would certainly do it to make him happy, but she wasn’t thrilled.

"I don’t attend parties unless it is for a friend so you won’t have to regularly attend parties. I will do whatever you want. If you want to use my bedroom or just see each other as you said. For now with my mother here, we should wait until she leaves if you want to stay with me. I hear Edwin talking about moving out furniture from storage and it has to be my mother’s doing," said Rafael.

His mother seemed to be excited to decorate a room for Annalise so he didn’t want to ruin it.

"Right. Maybe I should stay here and only see you at night when the manor is quiet. It will be a good game of trying not to get caught by anyone. When we are caught, then I will move to your bedroom. Until then, I will stay here with my friend," Annalise said, turning to face Rafael now that the spider was out of sight.

Rafael didn’t mind either option as long as Annalise was comfortable. "There won’t be anyone on this floor after dinner. Come to my bedroom tonight," Rafael said, taking hold of Annalise’s hand to nudge her closer to him.

He pulled her to his chest to hug her enough to last before he needed to leave to let her get dressed for the day.

"And why is it that I must come to you instead of you coming here?" Annalise asked, wrapping her hands around his waist. It was unfortunate that with their return to the manor, she wouldn’t be seeing him in armour as much as she wanted.

Luckily, she would get to see him walking around shirtless in the yard when he trained.

"I am not sleeping here where you have a spider running around. You’ll be coming to my room tonight," Rafael said, the tone of his voice sounded like an order.

"When you say it like that, I cannot turn down your invitation. I expect we will not be disturbed tonight, Rafael. You should see to it that we aren’t or I will return here to my spider friend," Annalise said, poking his chest with her finger to push him away from hugging her. "Now go away so I can get cleaned up in peace."
