Chapter 24: Seeing Lady Renelle

The ballroom was every bit as grand as the manhwa had described.

The hall was a massive one with chandeliers that cast golden light onto the walls and floors.

Nobles filled the room in small groups, chatting quietly among themselves while servants moved through the crowd carrying trays of drinks and food.

Elegant dresses and expensive tailored suits were everywhere, and the soft sound of music drifted from the orchestra stationed at the far end of the hall.

The moment Adrian stepped into the ball room, dressed in a formal black suit with black gloves on his hands, a few nearby nobles briefly glanced in his direction before quickly looking away.

To them, he was simply another guest among hundreds. His outfit was refined, yes, but not extravagant enough to immediately be worthy of their attention.

Adrian didn’t care what their lines of thought were.

Still, his eyes briefly moved across the room, calmly observing the people present. Many of them were individuals he vaguely recognized from the manhwa, nobles who had played minor roles in the story.

But he didn’t pay them much mind.

None of them were the reason he had come here tonight, instead, he was here to see his Lady Renelle.

He stood close to tall pillar with a relaxed pose as he started waiting.

"Should I stop the event that’s about to happen?" He muttered to himself as he continued waiting, referring to the manhwa event.

This was the day that the prince would officially break his engagement with Renelle and it was also the day that her hatred for the saintess was born, thereby setting her on the path of a Villainess.

Now, Adrian didn’t care if she wanted to be a Villainess or not, as long as she wasn’t doing it due to an obsession she had over the prince.

"Interfering would change a lot of things," he murmured.

He already knew how influential certain events in the story were. Some moments acted like turning points, shaping the personalities and choices of the characters involved.

Tonight was one of those moments.

If Renelle wasn’t pushed down this path, the future could change entirely.

Adrian didn’t mind that, in fact, he preferred it, the only problem was, if he interferes now then he wouldn’t be able to convince her of how unfit the prince was for someone like her.

She’d keep believing that the prince was above her when in truth, she was above everything else in Avera.

At least, to Adrian anyway. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"So I suppose letting it happen isn’t the worst option," he muttered under his breath, coming to a decision, "I just have to interfere before things get out of hand."

Just then, the music gradually softened.

The conversations around the hall began dying down as nobles turned their attention toward the entrance of the ballroom.

A herald’s voice soon echoed through the hall.

"His Imperial Highness, Crown Prince Lucian."

A tall young man stepped into the ballroom from the grand entrance, dressed in a pristine white ceremonial suit decorated with royal insignia.

The nobles immediately bowed their heads in greeting, Adrian, on the other hand, only glanced at him briefly before looking away.

He was utterly uninterested in the two that the herald would introduce, he was waiting for the final person to be introduced

Moments later, the herald spoke again.

"And the Saintess of the Church of Light, Lady Noelle."

Beside the prince walked a young lady in a beautiful white dress with golden patterns around it, she had chestnut brown hair and amber eyes.

Her appearance radiated so much innocence that any man would immediately want to protect her.....

Well, any man that wasn’t already obsessed with another, as a certain someone was.

Adrian had a small smile on his face, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

These two were the reason for his Renelle’s sufferings so the thought of simply erasing them crossed his mind more than once.

The two might be the protagonists of the manhwa, these were early story events so they were not terrifyingly strong just yet, which meant he could just easily end them.

But he resisted the urge.

Even if he intended on changing the plot, these two were still protagonists of this story, and killing them would just invite calamities he wasn’t ready for just yet.

So for now, all he had to do was ignore them.... at least, until his lady ordered otherwise.

The prince calmly walked forward with the nervous Saintess’s hand in his, seemingly forgetting that he was supposed to be a man engaged to another.

The whispers from the nobles died down again as the herald announced the presence of another.

"The young lady of the Ardent House, Lady Renelle."

The moment the words left his mouth, multiple eyes turned towards the door, one of those included Adrian’s.

Ever since he woke up in this world, he had been practicing the meeting between him and Renelle over and over.

But all that practice seemed to be thrown out the window, the moment he laid eyes on her.

The world seemed to slow to a crawl and for a brief moment, the noise of the ballroom faded into the background, the music, the whispers, the clinking of glasses, all of it felt distant.

Adrian’s gaze remained fixed on the entrance as Renelle stepped into the hall, he was in such a trance that he hadn’t realized that there was a difference to this scene when compared to the manhwa.

Her dress.

She wore a deep crimson gown that flowed elegantly behind her with every step she took. The fabric shimmered softly beneath the golden chandelier light, hugging her figure before cascading smoothly toward the floor.

Her icy blue eyes scanned the ball room for a short while before they landed on him and she seemed to freeze.

Time resumed its normal flow the moment she finally turned away and that’s when he finally noticed the difference in her dress.

In the manhwa she had been wearing blue in order to gain the prince’s attention, but now, she was wearing a red dress.

For a brief moment, a thought crossed his mind, had the story already begun to change because of his actions?

Some sort of butterfly effect?

His eyes continued following her, but again, unlike the manhwa, where she immediately went in search of the prince, this time, she briefly stopped by a pillar and grabbed a glass of what he assumed to be alcohol.

"...That’s new."
