Chapter 30 — The Student Council's Call

"It's just a simple illusion spell, yet Chloe Muller couldn't counter it?"
"Simple? Did you just say simple, Senior Ain?" Ren asked, voice trembling.
"Isn't it?"
"Simple, sure! The spell Leo used isn't complex in structure! But it's not human magic—it's elven!" Ren cried, clutching himself. "Other species' magic systems are fundamentally different from ours! Understanding the spell doesn't mean you can cast it! It's a realm of innate talent and instinct! Leo has that! The gods clearly sent him for Magic Studies!"
"I don't follow, Ren Horse. Leo Flove's aiming for Knight Studies," Ain said.
"Seems your tiny brain missed the point, so let me explain again," Ren shot back.
"I understood perfectly. You're saying you want to die," Ain said, grinning coldly, grabbing Ren's collar.
Unfazed, Ren launched into a speech about Leo's magical talent.

Class 5 students clasped hands, ecstatic.
Objectively, Class 1 had the upper hand and dominated the match.
Yet Class 5 won.
Celia gritted her teeth, Duran's face twisted, and Chloe, slumped on the ground, stared blankly, unable to stand.
"Get up, Chloe," Sedjen said.
"Professor," she mumbled.
"When a match ends, you exchange courtesies, win or lose."
Patting Chloe's shoulder gently, Sedjen gathered both teams at the center.
"Well done, all. Class 5, return to Halind and discuss today's match!" Sedjen said, eyeing Class 1's bowed heads.
Class 1 tensed.
Sedjen was known for elitism.
His students excelled, always dominating academy events.
Yet they'd lost to the lowest-ranked Class 5.
They braced for his anger.
"Elegant! All who played today did splendidly! I'm thrilled with your performance!" Sedjen said, defying expectations, praising them.
"Celia, you leveraged your strengths well! Overwhelming power—that's the hallmark of flame aura! But work on stamina!"
Starting with Celia, Sedjen detailed each Class 1 student's strengths and areas for improvement.
"Duran, your swift movements were impressive! No wasted motion! But find ways to boost instant power. Lightning's a destructive attribute too!"
Advising each student sincerely, Sedjen's gaze landed on Chloe last.
Chloe shrank.
The loss was undeniably her fault for failing to stop Leo.
"Chloe, you were flawless! Nothing to critique!" Sedjen said.
"But... we lost because of me," she said.
"No, it wasn't your fault. And we didn't truly lose. Yes, the match result was a defeat, but I don't believe Class 1 lost to Class 5," Sedjen said, smiling warmly. "We dominated the game. And it was only 20 minutes. Class 5's teamwork was notable, but with more time, we'd have turned it around!"
He patted Chloe's shoulder. "Leo outsmarted you perfectly at the end. No first-year could've stopped him. I guarantee it!"
Pointing skyward, Sedjen declared, "Heads up, everyone! Look high! Class 1 remains the most elegant!"
"Professor!"
"We love you!"
Class 1, moved, cheered for Sedjen.
They'd misunderstood his reputation.
He wasn't a professor who only wanted elite students.
He valued the teacher-student bond, never abandoning those under his care.
He chose Class 1 not for their high scores but because he liked the number one.
As Class 1 basked in warmth, Leo spoke. "Professor Sedjen."
"Leo, your strategies were remarkable. What's up?" Sedjen asked.
"Professor Halind says to buy the drinks now. And bathroom cleaning starts today," Leo said.
Class 1's mood plummeted, and Sedjen's lips twitched.
"Gasp! Professor Sedjen! Professors Ain and Ren are duking it out!" Howl shouted, spotting clashing frost aura and magic at the field's center.
"Howl," Sedjen said.
"Yes?"
"Take some friends and buy drinks at the campus café. Halind will handle Ain and Ren."
Sure enough, Halind was approaching the feuding professors.
Howl nodded, dazed, and headed to the café with friends.
Leo called after him, smirking, "Get the priciest ones."
"Ugh!"
Sedjen clutched his neck, feeling a pang.
'Next time, we'll win, Class 5!'

A month had passed since the first-years entered Lumern.
Enough time to adjust to academy life.
"Yawn! Morning," Carl said, slumping into his seat.
"Up late working again?" Chelsea asked, eating cafeteria spaghetti.
Carl scratched his head. "Yeah. Demand for fatigue potions keeps growing."
Though bottom-tier in combat among first-years, Carl was above average in alchemy and support magic.
Halind, his homeroom professor, had praised Carl's focus on a support role since enrollment.
His business was thriving too.
Promoting since orientation, and with top students using his potions, sales soared.
Potions, labor-intensive to craft, were often bought, boosting his success.
"Wish they'd buy my other stuff too," Carl said, eyeing other products with regret.
Still, his quick success left little to complain about.
Leo, chewing steak for breakfast, said, "Heard the rumor?"
"What rumor?" Carl asked.
"Senior dungeon raiders are returning," Leo said.
Carl's eyes lit up. "Yeah! I heard three teams are coming back!"
Hero Dungeon raiders, tasked with conquering dungeons and retrieving Hero Record pages, often left campus.
This time, three teams, including the academy's strongest students, had been absent.
First-years, yet to meet Lumern's famed named students, felt disappointed.
Chelsea twirled spaghetti on her fork, popping it into her mouth. "Next Hero Studies class will use recently retrieved Hero Record pages as material."
"Really? We're entering the Hero's World already? I thought that'd be for midterms," Carl said, excited.
"Not quite. Some retrieved pages are damaged. We'll analyze them to deduce the hero," Chelsea explained.
"Lame," Carl said.
"What's with that reaction? Handling lost Hero Records is a big deal!" Chelsea said, eyes sparkling.
She loved hero tales, a hobby of studying their legends.
"Now that you mention it, club recruitment starts soon, right?" Carl said, stroking his chin.
With first-years settled, club sign-ups were approaching.
"Got any clubs in mind? I'm thinking a commerce club," Carl said.
"I'm considering the music club. My family taught me as a kid for refinement," Chelsea said.
"Very noble lady vibes. Leo, you?" Carl asked.
"I'm thinking of starting a club," Leo said.
"What?" Carl blinked.
"Starting a club?" Chelsea echoed.
"Yeah," Leo said.
The freshman rep forming a club piqued their interest.
"What kind?" Carl asked.
"Hero Research Club," Leo said.
"Hero Research Club? Sounds academic," Carl said, grimacing.
"Clubs are usually for stress relief. Will people join something study-related?" Chelsea said, shaking her head.
"It's not academic. We'll research forgotten heroes," Leo said, smiling softly.
"Like who?" Carl asked.
"Kyle, the First Hero," Leo said.
His ulterior motive was to promote his own legacy at Lumern.
"Kyle? That's not forgotten—he's a myth. Too far-fetched, and it'll flop," Carl said.
"Sounds fun, though! Kyle's not in the Hero Record, so he's deemed fictional, but he's super famous! A non-historical hero with that fame? Maybe Kyle's Hero Record just hasn't been found!" Chelsea said, buzzing with excitement.
"Chelsea," Leo said.
"Yeah?"
"You're sweet."
Meeting someone so positive about his past self, Leo smiled warmly, patting Chelsea's head.
Flustered by the sudden gesture, Chelsea soon giggled, leaning into his touch.
Carl laughed. "Big dreams. Kyle's obviously fake. Why not Dweno? The great blacksmith and advisor to the Great Hero Party! A real hero over Kyle—mmph! Mmph?! Urk!"
"Carl, bread alone might choke you," Leo said.
"Mmmph! Urk! (Who feeds bread like that!)" Carl muffled.
"Want more?" Leo asked.
"Mmmph! (Nooo!)"
Leo kindly stuffed more bread into his friend's mouth.

Morning classes ended, and lunch began.
Students poured out of the classroom.
As Leo packed his textbooks and stood, Celia entered Class 5.
"Leo," she said.
"Yeah?"
"What's up, Celia? Why're you in our class?" Chelsea asked, frowning.
"Just here for Leo. No lunch plans, right?" Celia said flatly.
"Nope," Leo said.
"Then eat with me."
"Why?"
"The student council president wants to see you."
