Chapter 248: Chapter 12: Small Goals_2

The guests dining in the second-floor hall seemed to be at least free citizens of the Blood Clan. Of course, there were also elf merchants and the like. As for those considered lower races, such as humans, goblins, and dwarves, there were none. Although there were quite a few wealthy lower-race merchants in Hilde.

"Young Master Jones, this way."

Following the butler’s lead, Jones continued upward, finally arriving at the door of a room on the fifth floor.

"Young Master Adelle, Young Master Jones is here." The butler gently knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Adelle’s voice came from within the room.

The moment the door opened, before Jones could react, Adelle had already pulled him into an embrace: "Welcome, my dear brother! Come, let me introduce you to a friend!"

Saying this, he led Jones inside.

There was another person in the room.

Clad in a blue dress, tall and graceful, with short brown hair, and a handsome, yet slender face. From his appearance, he should be a mature member of the Blood Clan.

He smiled and greeted Jones: "Hello, Young Master Jones. My name is Adolf Capadocia. It’s a pleasure to meet you."

Capadocia, this was a very ancient Blood Clan surname.

"Hello, I’m Jones." Jones was taken aback for a moment, then forced a smile and returned the greeting a bit awkwardly.

"Shall we sit down first?" Adelle smiled and said.

At Adelle’s invitation, Jones and Adolf both took their seats.

This room was quite tasteful, at least it wasn’t as chaotic as the first floor, nor as haphazard as the second floor. But if you were to talk about its unique features, it was probably only the balcony. A spacious balcony almost as large as the room itself, overlooking the entire Hilde. However, it was clear that Adelle had little interest in the view, as the scenery from his family castle was infinitely better.

So, what was the reason for meeting here?

*Jones’s gaze wandered unintentionally between Adelle and Adolf.*

"This is the friend I told you about, who also very much wants to meet you." Adelle smiled while pouring tea: "In fact, I just met him not long ago. It is because of him that I learned about you."

"Because of him?" Jones glanced at Adolf.

"Yes." Adolf spread his hands and said, "I heard that the Lich King had an adopted son who was a member of the Blood Clan, and it so happened that someone mentioned your name to me. I casually brought it up when chatting with Young Master Adelle. To my surprise, Young Master Adelle looked into it and found that your father’s territory wasn’t far from here. Moreover, you just happened to be home. It was a wonderful coincidence."

"Is that so?" Jones gave a token smile.

"I have to thank you, Adolf, because of you, I met my brother Jones. He is now a member of my brotherhood." Adelle turned his face to Jones: "When I mentioned this to Adolf yesterday, he was particularly interested and wanted to meet you. So, I invited you over. Actually, I don’t really enjoy the brotherhood’s activities; after all, what’s the point? I just go along with it for the sake of the other Blood Clan members, who like it. I prefer having tea, or wine, chatting, and meeting new friends, like Adolf here, who is capable and well-connected. You don’t count, Jones, you are my brother."

Jones could only smile awkwardly. *Honestly, he didn’t like how Adelle kept emphasizing the term "brother," although it was true that he had joined Adelle’s brotherhood. But at least in Jones’s eyes, their relationship wasn’t that close.*

Before Jones could speak, Adelle added, "I met Adolf at a slave auction. He is a Blood Clan member from the north, residing in the Human World."

"Gustav Empire?" Jones asked casually.

"Yes." Adolf nodded with a smile: "My family has always lived in the Gustav Empire, disguised as humans. So, I don’t come here often."

"Capadocia is an old surname, we always thought the family had died out, but it turns out they were hiding in the Human World. If he hadn’t presented the Capadocia family crest and known one of my uncles, I would have almost thought he was a fraud."

"If we hadn’t been eyeing the same slave, we wouldn’t have met."

"Then we should thank that slave?"

"Makes sense. You should do it, after all, you bought the slave."

The two laughed.

Jones quietly listened from the side.

*It was a different kind of gathering, but it was just as boring for Jones. Of course, it was just boring.*

Adelle was good at saying flattering things, always adding "my brother Jones" to whatever he said. As for Adolf, he was very polite and friendly, able to respond respectfully to anything Adelle said. The two conversed effortlessly.

By contrast, Jones felt somewhat out of place, not knowing what to say or how to join the conversation.

*For some reason, Jones always felt like Adolf’s eyes lingered on him intentionally or unintentionally.*

Halfway through the conversation, Adolf suddenly changed the topic: "By the way, Jones, how did you become the Lich King’s adopted son? I’ve always been curious. Why would the Lich have an adopted son, and why would he choose a member of the Blood Clan?"

Saying this, Adolf furrowed his brows and looked at Jones.

Jones awkwardly smiled: "Because... he defeated me."

"You become the Lich King’s adopted son by being defeated by him?" Adelle joked: "Does that mean he has many adopted sons?"

"Of course not, it just... happened. It was a coincidence, and I happened to become his adopted son." Jones awkwardly smiled again.

Adelle quickly smoothed things over: "It seems like it’s a little secret between him and his adoptive father, we better not ask."

The atmosphere turned a bit cold.

Once again, an unpleasant gathering.

When leaving, Adolf enthusiastically said he would pick a day to visit Jones’s home. Jones casually agreed. After all, it didn’t really matter.

*"I always felt he had an ulterior motive; it wasn’t just by chance that he met me." Jones muttered to himself as he flew, "Whatever, never mind him. I should think about how to get a castle. Suddenly, I find myself interested in having my own castle. But first, I need money... How do I get money? A castle would cost at least a hundred thousand Gold Coins? I can’t count on my father, he doesn’t have that much. Adelle... I don’t want to ask him. Maybe I should sell Goya; she’d fetch about thirty thousand Gold Coins anyway."*

*Saying this, Jones startled himself, shook his head vigorously to discard the thought.*

*"A hundred thousand Gold Coins is really a lot. But wait, maybe I can borrow money! I’ll ask Camilla! She must have some! Then I can repay her! Buying a few dwarf craftsmen or other money-making slaves... After all, it’s pretty easy for Blood Clan members to make money; as long as I save a bit, I could pay back quickly. I’ll write to her first to see if she’s willing. If it’s not enough, I can turn to Bob, Yilin, and Carey. I realize most of the people I know are wealthy, except for Gray, who isn’t. I also need to prepare for conversion. Otherwise, transporting a hundred thousand Gold Coins would be too time-consuming. Then I’ll look for a cheaper castle; I don’t think it makes much difference where I live. Yeah, that’s the plan!"*

Crying out with joy, Jones flew back, flapping his wings faster than before.
