The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 556: Can’t You Knock Before Coming In?
She sat on the sofa for a while and after taking a few sips of tea, her mood finally calmed down a bit.
The words Yvette Jacobs said in front of her that day touched her somewhat. That woman probably regretted the things with Julian Sterling and also thought she could escape a disaster.
She curled her lips. It wasn’t sympathy, just a sudden shock at hearing news of so many people dying.
She tidied up a bit and got up to go to the company.
She hadn’t been to the company for a long time. Both inside the company and outside, there were many rumors about her. When Jean Nash was still in Serenford, people were even more abusive towards her. However, after going through so much, Eleanor Hollis’s mindset had matured quite a bit. At least she no longer doubted herself because of others’ words.
The top-floor office was the same as before, not a single change, except for the fact that quite a few new faces had appeared.
She pushed open Hugo Quinn’s office door and saw a woman standing in front of him, with her hand on his head.
Eleanor Hollis furrowed her brow slightly, standing quietly without moving, wanting to know what the woman was up to.
The woman obviously didn’t expect someone to come in without knocking. When noticing it was Eleanor Hollis, she was slightly stunned. Having just returned from abroad, she didn’t even know Eleanor’s name, and she worked at Xavier Crawford’s company, representing the company for cooperation talks.
However, at first sight of Hugo Quinn, she was somewhat moved and, upon seeing him lying down asleep, she wanted to touch him up close.
"Which company are you from? Don’t you know how to knock before entering?"
Ruining her good moment like this really made her angry!
Eleanor Hollis raised an eyebrow; this woman was considered her simplest opponent yet. Before, she faced much more sophisticated ones.
Hugo Quinn had already woken up by now and rose calmly. Seeing Eleanor Hollis, he immediately stood up.
"Honey, why did you come?"
Honey?
When the woman heard Hugo Quinn call that, her face instantly turned white. She had just returned to the country and didn’t know Hugo had gotten married, and her actions were caught straight by the wife herself.
"If I hadn’t come, you wouldn’t even know if someone took advantage of you."
Eleanor Hollis looked at the woman calmly, observing that the woman was already standing stunned, her mouth slightly twitching.
Hugo seemed to guess what was happening and turned to glance at the woman.
Just one look, and the woman felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar, involuntarily stepping back.
"President Quinn, sorry, I just..."
She wanted to explain, but Hugo Quinn impatiently cut her off, "Get out."
The woman trembled and couldn’t say a word. Realizing the deal wouldn’t work today, she could only purse her lips and leave dejectedly.
Eleanor Hollis shut the door, feeling very displeased.
"Eleanor, I just accidentally fell asleep and didn’t think of doing anything with her."
Hugo Quinn was still explaining, afraid Eleanor would be upset.
Eleanor nodded. She knew. Her eyes weren’t blind; she could see who initiated it.
"I told you long ago, you don’t have to design the wedding dress. Look at your dark circles; you haven’t been resting well lately."
She, feeling a bit distressed, covered Hugo Quinn’s eyes with her hand.
Hugo Quinn felt his sore eyes instantly feeling a bit better, curving his lips into a smile.
"It’s already designed, no worries, I’m willing."
A simple ’I’m willing’ immediately melted Eleanor’s heart. This man always managed to touch her quietly.
"Wait for me a bit; I have a few things to handle. After that, I’ll accompany you out to dinner."
Eleanor nodded, sitting on the sofa to the side, and casually picked up a magazine to read.
Surprisingly, the magazine’s content happened to be about Hugo Quinn, all praising his business acumen.
She curved her lips into a smile. Seeing her own magazine, this man really was interesting.
After waiting about half an hour, Hugo Quinn finished his work, picked up a coat beside him, and said, "Let’s go." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Eleanor nodded, holding onto his hand and boldly walked out.
In the top-floor office, many eyes watched them, filled with envy, jealousy, or disbelief.
Eleanor understood. Rumors in the office had long said that she and Hugo Quinn were only married in name. She previously didn’t pay attention to these gossip, but that woman just now made her very aware. With Hugo’s status, too many women were eager to pounce on him. It was best to quell those women’s thoughts as soon as possible.
Hugo knew her intentions and didn’t stop her. Instead, he felt a bit sweet inside.
Today Hugo drove; it was rare for the two of them to go out to eat, and he didn’t have Lan Yancy come as a third wheel.
"I’ll take you to my university. Although I dropped out midway, it still left me with many memories."
She was supposed to be studying at that age but married into the Quinton Family, interrupting her university life, unable to even get her diploma.
But undeniably, that school had always been her dream.
Hugo Quinn didn’t refuse. He wasn’t familiar with Eleanor’s five years in the Quinton Family back then, as he spent more time abroad. He was always thinking about how to get Marcus to talk.
The car traveled all the way, with it just finally being rush hour, the traffic was quite heavy, and it took them an hour to get to the place.
Inside the school, there was a street called the Back Street, filled with food stalls.
Eleanor turned several corners, finally stopping at a noodle shop.
The noodle shop was filled with students. Hugo Quinn’s attire was quite out of place amid the surroundings, attracting quite a few curious glances along the way.
The owner, a man in his forties, cheerfully hollered while instructing the kitchen to hurry up and cook the noodles.
"This place is nice."
Hugo Quinn usually went to high-end restaurants and rarely came to such small eateries for meals.
"Yes, it has a very lively atmosphere."
Eleanor helped him by pulling out a pair of chopsticks, wiping them with a napkin, and handing them to him.
Hugo curved his lips; such things should typically be done by a man.
Two bowls of noodles were quickly served, and the shop owner recognized Eleanor, a glint flashing in his eyes.
"Young lady, you used to study here, right? I remember you. When you first started college, you often came to have noodles here."
Unexpectedly, the owner still remembered her.
Eleanor was somewhat surprised. She indeed came often back then, but this shop was in the school, serving all kinds of people every day. This uncle really had a remarkable memory.
"But you stopped coming later. I thought something happened to you. Is this your husband? Very handsome. This is the first time someone like him came to have noodles here."
The shop owner chuckled happily and added two chicken legs for them.
Eleanor felt a bit embarrassed and shyly said, "Thank you."
