Chapter 1316

Alfland belonged to Davey. Although many people raised doubts about a non-Korean owning it, no big problems arose due to the negotiations he’d made to delegate operations.

What mattered in the end was that even though he wasn’t managing it directly, he was still the sole owner of Alfland.

In that man’s proverbial front yard, with him even present somewhere in the park, Moderation had to do the most unthinkable.

“Please... please, Eva.” He scowled at Evangeline, who had locked arms with him. Doing something so unnecessary made him uncomfortable to the max.

“Hey! Stop being annoying and just follow my lead! You were just going to mope around with nothing to do, anyway!”

Moderation was indignant. “Hey, come on! Why’d you have to say it like that?!”

“You look upset, so how can I just ignore you?!” She briskly approached the ice cream shop and pulled out a small wallet to pay. She then offered him a scoop of beaded ice cream. “Here.”

Seeing her boldness, he sighed and accepted it unwillingly.

The incident had started with a blind date.

He had made great efforts to erase Reina, the person he had liked, from his mind. Regardless of his feelings for her, approaching her now would only make things harder for her, considering what she was going through.

He had tried everything he could, and the blind date at the park was simply another attempt at moving on. However, the human heart didn’t change so easily.

He went on the blind date, but he kept projecting Reina onto his date. She ended up feeling like he was a real jerk. In the end, the blind date had ended abruptly with a hard slap to his cheek.

After that, he sat on a bench feeling completely miserable. That was when Evangeline approached him, ignorant of his tumultuous feelings. It was pure coincidence.

In truth, even though they were both streamers, Evangeline was a kid who was worlds apart from him. Placed in any other circumstances, it would’ve been almost impossible for them to grow personally close.

Her inherent talent was one thing, but her background itself felt too distant for Park Seung-Hyun, who lived an ordinary life. The fact that she was so friendly with him was the result of one coincidence after another.

Evangeline spoke into the device floating in the air in real-time and sharply looked around the area. Then, Moderation caught sight of two familiar figures.

‘Shit.’

He knew Evangeline would most likely be caught immediately by Saint Davey.

Looking at the two of them now, with matching decorations on their heads and items in their hands, they almost looked like a couple. If anyone saw them, they wouldn’t find it strange to think they were lovers on a date.

In fact, seeing Evangeline smiling brightly and enjoying the moment, he even felt like she was a very pretty little lady. From the cute horns on her head to her fundamental appearance, she was incredibly beautiful.

However, he knew he needed to snap out of it. The little kid in front of him was barely five years old!

Even with the pain of heartbreak, he absolutely could not let himself waver, and he couldn’t let that man see them in such a state. If Davey saw them looking like this, given what Moderation knew of him, he’d send him a bunch of white rabbits at night.

He could not be caught by him, no matter what.

Moderation caught sight of Super Ribbon smiling faintly and talking while wearing an animal ear headband. He suddenly snatched Evangeline’s arm when Davey nodded and headed toward the bumper cars with Super Ribbon.

“Ack! That hurts!” she complained.

“No shit, you idiot! What are you trying to do?”

“What do you mean? I'm obviously going to follow them. Are we just going to watch from a distance while tailing them?”

“You're lacking the basics, these are basics! That's not how you tail someone.”

If he couldn’t avoid the situation, he figured he’d at least avoid the worst-case scenario. Playing along with her for the moment was better than letting Davey catch them together like this.

He quickly made a superhuman calculation in a very short time and dragged her toward the merry-go-round, which had a clear and distant view of the bumper cars.

He even went all-in and bought a few items from the gift shop to help obscure their figures. Evangeline’s eyes widened at his bold move. He ignored her reaction, set her on one of the carousel horses that was harder to spot from a distance, and positioned himself to block half the view toward Davey with his body.

“Hey, you said you had face blindness spell on, right?” he asked.

“Huh? Oh, yeah.”

“Turn it off and just put this on, plus these sunglasses.”

He made her wear the other items he had bought.

“Oh. Wait, no, why?”

“Listen carefully, please. Tailing someone is useless if you get caught. You might not be caught by others right now, but given your dad’s abilities, you'll likely stand out like a sore thumb.”

“Is... is that so?”

“So, suppress your mana as much as you can.”

Based on what he knew of magic concepts, he offered the best they could do. Wiping cold sweat from his face, he made preparations to ensure they wouldn’t be caught.

“We want to make sure your dad doesn't look around in suspicion.”

When he pulled a short-haired wig down over her head, Evangeline nodded even as she complained.

“Did you do it?” he asked to make sure.

“Yes! I took the face blindness spell off,” she grumbled.

“Good.” Moderation also put on his own wig and pointed toward Davey, who was getting into a two-seater bumper car with Super Ribbon. “Honestly, I don't know what we'll gain from this, but we can just watch from here. Going any closer will definitely get us caught.”

Evangeline’s eyes widened at his unexpected professionalism. She looked up at him and then nodded.

In truth, even though they were tailing Davey, from Moderation's perspective, Davey was simply enjoying the amusement park with Super Ribbon. He had no interest in what they could possibly gain from such observation.

However, being caught was something he absolutely had to avoid.

“Wait, how is your father not getting recognized either?”

“Dad is also using the face blindness spell.”

“I can see him clearly, though?”

“That’s because I cast a spell on you,” she informed him.

“Will he notice that?”

“I don't know. But once he’s aware, he should be able to see you clearly. I didn't cast anything new on you right now.”

They hid and observed the pair, looking like a couple. Just as Moderation predicted, the father and daughter pair didn’t show anything particularly noteworthy.

To him, that was only to be expected.

He quickly turned his head to check the viewers’ reactions on her stream. He wanted to get rid of the camera since it just left evidence behind, but he lacked the means to destroy it in front of her. He had no choice but to act carefully to avoid leaving any room for misunderstanding.

Alas, he still hadn't considered how he and Evangeline, huddled together and riding the merry-go-round, looked to those watching the stream. In fact, the viewers were no longer interested in the tailing itself. They were simply enjoying Evangeline and Moderation—the occasional bickering and the chemistry between them, especially.

“Ah! They're moving.”

They left after enjoying the bumper cars for quite some time.

Moderation continued to teach Evangeline what he knew on the merry-go-round, preemptively preventing her from making mistakes.

It was Moderation who had begun tailing most enthusiastically. While the viewers had no idea why he knew so much about tailing, for Moderation, it was a serious matter that concerned his life.

Afterward, Moderation decided that wigs alone could not perfectly disguise Evangeline, and he finally sought a new method.

“Eva, let's do that too.”

“What? Why that?”

“Ah. Just do it. Follow me, I'll pay for it.” He took her to a face-painting booth.

He chose a design from the samples given, one that was not too flashy and focused on cuteness, and told Evangeline to sit down.

The artist politely asked, “Would your boyfriend like to join you? We have a couple’s face painting deal...”

Moderation immediately said, “Excuse me.”

“Yes?”

“She's a minor... What do you mean boyfriend?” His expression was the most serious in the world.

“Oh, I apologize.”

Ignoring the flustered employee, he lightly pushed on Evangeline's back. “Anyway, please do your best.”

“Yes, I'll do my best.”

Evangeline received the face painting without resistance while keeping an eye on Davey in the distance, stuck waiting in line for a ride.

Her main focus was Davey, but the fact that Moderation made such comments made her feel subtly ignored.

She suddenly felt annoyed. The viewers, on the other hand, were getting a huge kick out of it.

Even though they weren’t a real couple, the way they talked showed clear chemistry and made them extremely entertaining to watch.

[Like, they’re just tailing those two, so why’s this so fun lmao]

[I know. She said it was just casual content, but this is definitely fun]

Since it wasn’t an official stream with her typical content, Evangeline had mentioned that the viewers could think of it as a throwaway stream.

She had said she couldn’t guarantee much entertainment. Even so, the viewers enjoyed the occasional bickering with Moderation, and watching how desperately Moderation protected her when she was on the verge of being caught by Davey.

After following them for about thirty minutes, Moderation was internally worked up since Evangeline was enjoying the tailing too comfortably, but she wasn’t aware of his internal struggle.

With the short wig, accessories on her head, and the face painting, she looked completely different from her usual self. With every accessory combined, she was no longer recognizable as Evangeline.

The natural disguise was perfect, but Moderation felt himself becoming exhausted with the tailing. “Hey, Eva. Can we stop now?”

She immediately rejected him. “No.”

“T-then can I at least go back first and let you finish up?”

[He’s fuckin’ desperate KEKW]

[He's screwed if he gets caught LULW]

[Hella dramatic hahaha]

[His life’s on the line! How else is he supposed to survive?!]

The viewers had already reached the point of enjoying his suffering.

Meanwhile, Evangeline experienced a subtle feeling without realizing it. She felt something tickling inside.

“Moderation, take this,” she said as she held out the ice cream in her hand to him. “I-I'm just giving it to you because I suddenly wanted to.”

“Oh. Oh, yeah? Thanks.” Despite being flustered, he bit into the ice cream aggressively, and her expression slightly soured.

“No, Moderation! I asked you to make it feel like a date today. I think I'm finally starting to understand something about this whole romance thing.”

All it took was just a single remark, and he froze entirely. “W-what did you say?”

A landmine bigger than being caught by Davey had just been placed directly under his nose. His face turned pale in an instant. It looked as if all the blood had drained from it, and he took a step or two back from Evangeline.

“S-Say that again?”

She obliviously reiterated, “I feel like something’s tickling my insides and making me feel good...”

“Ugh. AHHHH!!!”

He had tried to avoid the bomb that was Davey all day, but a nuclear bomb named Evangeline was about to explode in his face.

Of course, he didn’t think that Evangeline had actually developed other feelings for him in the situation. However, he knew that what she said could lead to a serious misunderstanding.

In other words, Evangeline was mistaking her enjoyment of playing like this for developing feelings for Moderation!

Moderation quickly began thinking things through again.

Staring at the chat full of viewers who had quickly noticed and were laughing excitedly, Moderation thought of every possible solution.

He knew that if he messed up even a little here, the problem wouldn’t end with just being caught tailing.

He began to think about the original reason he had wanted to avoid being caught by Davey. It was, of course, to prevent any suspicion that he was spending time with the man’s five-year-old daughter for ulterior motives.

While there was already a high possibility of being caught because of the stream, he could just cut out the risky parts of that later. Everything would be solved as long as he wasn’t caught in this current state.

Forcing himself to stop trembling, and sporting a terrified expression, he said, “L-listen carefully, Eva.”

He needed to resolve the current situation, even if it meant for her to go back on her decision.

“Okay, so here’s the thing...”

Suddenly, a noise rang.

Boom!!

A loud explosion roared out along with the smell of gunpowder.

However, the blast disappeared without leaving much of an impact. He assumed it was probably due to the defensive magic cast all over the area.

If that had been all, Moderation would have brushed it off as a minor nuisance, but what happened next completely ruled out that possibility.

A man suddenly rushed out into the middle of the crowd and ran madly toward Evangeline.

‘Is he trying to take her hostage?’

He figured that it was only happening because the man didn’t recognize she was Evangeline.

However, truthfully speaking, that wasn’t what mattered to Moderation. What mattered most was the possibility that the damned terrorist had failed in his bombing attempt and was now trying to take Evangeline hostage.

If that were the case, the Saint of Tionis would definitely recognize her, and Moderation, who was right next to her, would also be recognized.

After that?

‘It wouldn’t be surprising to find myself sinking into the ocean with my feet encased in concrete!'

He abruptly decided that he’d rather expose only himself and not let Davey find Evangeline.

She could hide herself to avoid being caught, and once Davey found him, he could just tell him he came to the amusement park for a failed blind date.

Humans displayed superhuman abilities in times of crisis. Having done that long calculation in a very short moment, he grabbed a churro nearby, charged straight at the man who looked like a terrorist, and swung it right at his face.

Crack!!

Of course, a churro wasn’t very effective. Ignoring the snack that instantly shattered, Moderation grappled around the man and tumbled to the ground with him.

The scene instantly drew everyone's attention, Davey and Super Ribbon among them.

Moderation sent a look toward Eva even while struggling.

‘Get out of here, now!’

However, Evangeline’s eyes were wide as she stared at him in shock. He had thrown himself in front of her to protect her!

She didn’t say anything, but Moderation realized what kind of misunderstanding she was having. It was truly annoying how a girl her age, going through puberty, would relate everything to that.

She was experiencing a serious misunderstanding.

He would be less frustrated if she truly felt something for him, but he instinctively knew that wasn’t the case either.

His face turned dark and lifeless. He had won the fight but lost the war, all because of that damned terrorist.

He tried to grab and subdue the man, demonstrating superhuman strength mustered up from god knows where.

True enough, the opponent was a real terrorist. The man pulled out a knife from somewhere and tried to stab him.

However, the moment Davey caught sight of him, he was done for.

Crack! Clang!!

Moderation saw someone grab the knife with their bare hand and shatter it.

“Well, you sure are a brave one.” Davey smiled broadly. “But let's not do this again next time.”

Fortunately, he did not seem to have noticed Evangeline yet.

However, the expression Evangeline wore made Moderation feel sick to his stomach.

A huge cheer erupted from the surroundings.

Evangeline, who seemed to understand the cue Moderation had given her, managed to hide herself in the crowd.

Moderation, who had thrown himself head-first into a terrorist’s embrace to survive a maniacal father’s forthcoming assault, ended up looking like a brave citizen who had stopped a terrorist.

His own expression, however, was utterly stiff, utterly incapable of predicting what would happen next.
