The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 114: Wife, I’m a Wolf
Chapter 114: Wife, I’m a Wolf
Primrose finally calmed down after sipping some warm tea and munching through half a jar of cookies.
She wasn’t even sure if she was eating because she was still sad or simply because she was hungry.
Edmund was sitting on the same sofa as her, but for some reason, he sat all the way on the other side, as if he didn’t dare to sit too close to his own wife in front of his father-in-law.
If Lazarus weren’t here, Primrose was sure Edmund would have already asked for a welcome kiss.
"Father," Primrose spoke up again once she had swallowed the cookie in her mouth. "Did you come here without anyone’s knowledge?"
Lazarus hadn’t yet told Primrose about the Emperor’s order forbidding him from seeing his daughter.
However, she could already guess it.
He hadn’t arrived at the palace with their family carriage, and in fact, Primrose hadn’t seen him bring much luggage either, as if he had come here in a rush.
That wasn’t like him at all.
Lazarus was the kind of person who always planned everything carefully, sometimes weeks ahead of time.
Normally, she would have expected him to send a letter first.
"Why do you ask that?" Lazarus sighed deeply. "Now you’re going to worry even more because of me."
Primrose quickly said, "No! I ... I just want to know! I just want to be able to predict when you’ll have to return to Illvaris."
"Father has to return to Illvaris before sunrise," Edmund added suddenly.
Primrose frowned.
Since when had her husband started calling him ’Father’ too?
Not that she minded—it was actually kind of sweet—but she needed a moment to get used to it.
"Why?" Primrose asked.
This time, Lazarus answered for himself. "The Emperor forbade me from seeing you, Rosie. That’s why I couldn’t visit you, even if I wanted to."
"I thought about telling you through a letter, but ... I didn’t want to make you sad."
So that was why, in her first life, Lazarus had only told her the painful truth months later.
Before she found out, she had thought her father didn’t want to see her anymore.
"That’s so cruel!" Even though Primrose already knew about it, her heart still hurt hearing it again.
She stood up from the couch and sat down on the floor, hugging her father’s legs tightly. "Why can’t I see you again?!"
"Rosie! The floor is cold!"
"Wife! The floor is cold!"
Both of them shouted at her at the same time, startling her slightly.
Edmund quickly lifted her off the ground, while Lazarus gave up his seat so she could sit down instead.
She had only sat on the floor! It wasn’t even that cold!
The tears that had been about to fall from her eyes suddenly dried up because she was too stunned by how fast they had moved her from the floor to the sofa.
She blinked a few times, glancing between them as they stood there, staring at her like she might break.
"I ... I’m fine," she muttered.
Of course she was fine! freeweɓnøvel.com
It was just the floor, not boiling lava!
After being apart from her father for so many years, Primrose had almost forgotten just how much Lazarus used to spoil her.
She couldn’t even remember the last time she had ever carried anything heavy by herself.
She was grateful for everything he did, but at the same time, it made her overly dependent on him and when they were separated, she struggled to survive on her own.
That was part of the reason why she had died so easily in her first life.
She couldn’t deny it that she had fallen into such deep depression that she hadn’t even wanted to fight for her life anymore.
Good thing she could read people’s minds now. Otherwise, even after being given a second chance at life, she might still be drowning in that same sea of despair.
"Don’t worry, wife," Edmund said as he knelt down in front of her. "I’ll take Father to see you whenever you miss him. No—maybe I can even bring him here once a month."
[I’d like to bring him once every week, but I’m afraid the Emperor might get suspicious if I sneak into their territory too often.]
[I can hide my presence well enough, but it’s better to be careful than risk getting Father in trouble.]
Primrose sighed quietly.
She still wasn’t used to hearing her husband call her father ’Father’ too!
Aside from that, Edmund was right.
As much as Primrose wanted to see her father every day, it would be far too risky.
However, one question had been nagging at her mind for a while now.
"Did you bring my father here on horseback? Or ... in a carriage?" Primrose asked.
She couldn’t help but ask. Lazarus’s clothes looked a little messy, as if his trip hadn’t been very comfortable.
And considering Edmund had said they needed to return Lazarus to Illvaris before sunrise—less than eight hours away—meanwhile, it had taken Primrose nearly two days to reach Noctvaris.
How exactly had Edmund brought her father here so fast?
Instead of answering her question directly, Edmund said, "Wife ... do you remember that I’m a Lycan?"
Primrose raised an eyebrow in confusion. "I do."
How could she possibly forget something like that?
"And that I can turn into a big wolf ... big enough to carry a person on my back," Edmund added, lowering his head a little, clearly embarrassed.
"Oh ..." Primrose stared at him for a moment. "I ... I’m not so sure about that," she admitted awkwardly.
Honestly, she had almost forgotten that her husband could transform into a giant wolf.
No, it wasn’t entirely her fault!
Edmund had never transformed into a wolf in front of her, not even once. He hadn’t even shown any animal ears or tail.
Since he was a beast with such high abilities, he truly looked just like a normal human.
All this time, Primrose had always called him "the Lycan King," but she had almost forgotten that her husband was actually a lycan, a beast who could transform into a massive wolf, even bigger than a werewolf.
Now that he had brought it up, Primrose found herself a little curious to see his beast form.
