Chapter 159: Chapter 159. Soul Crossing

With a final swaying motion, Ed felt the ship stop and opened his heavy eyelids. Being forcibly roused from sleep was uncomfortable.

"Ed, we’ve arrived!" Jason’s knock came from the door.

Which bastard is making trouble so early in the morning? Ed slowly opened his heavy eyelid for a second before covering his face with the pillow and continuing to sleep.

He was so tired yesterday that he hadn’t even taken off his shoes, his legs dangling off the bed.

"Ed? Get up, otherwise we will leave you behind," Jason’s voice sounded once again. Ed can no longer pretend to be deaf and sleep peacefully.

"One day I will definitely throw this bastard into the sea, and let the sharks eat him," Ed cursed Jason’s entire family, before finally getting up, grabbing some slightly dirty clothes from beside him, and putting them on, then pushing open the wooden door.

He saw Elena, looking much better, leaning against the side of the ship. Upon seeing Ed, she smiled and waved. Gami was beside her, clutching his head and rubbing it incessantly, hissing in pain.

Seeing this, Ed first smiled and greeted Elena before smugly going over to tease him about his injuries.

Andre walked over, still carrying the metal box on his back. It seemed he would keep it with him until the Sword of Mercy was delivered to the church. This was understandable, given its immense, treasure-like value.

Having the strongest man on the ship safeguard it was the safest option, though the absolute best place would still be Ed’s inventory, which no one else could even see the things he carries unless he wants.

"Let’s go, everyone," Andre said, jumping off the ship with the box.

The others followed closely. They didn’t actually all need to go; Ed or one of the three others could have handled it. But none of them had witnessed a Soul Crossing Ceremony before and couldn’t resist watching.

Even Elena, who hadn’t fully recovered, came along. Such an opportunity was rare.

They traversed the ruins, arrived at the city in the center of the island, and then used the city’s broken roads to reach the hillside behind it. They didn’t encounter a single skeleton along the way. Moving with incredible speed, they easily arrived at the manor they had previously been in.

"The owner of this place must have been quite wealthy," Elena remarked, looking around. Even after centuries of decay, the manor still bore traces of its former glory.

They arrived at the opened gate. Ed, leading the way, headed straight for the tunnel they had discovered. The blue dot was still lit on the map.

’She’s emitting fluctuations again, this time even more intense,’ Lucilia’s voice echoed in Ed’s mind through the mirror.

Ed stood above the tunnel, addressing the spot. "Right below. The tunnel is quite narrow; will it affect the ritual?"

His words had barely left his lips when a faint fluctuation emanated from the ground, accompanied by a tremor beneath his feet. Ed immediately jumped back two steps. The others also became slightly wary.

With the vibration, the floor above the tunnel was lifted and rolled up like a carpet, releasing dust and smoke. The tunnel below was revealed, and Jasmine’s soul flew out, looking somewhat strained.

At this moment, a faint, eerie green mist was emanating from the back of her soul. However, her soul form remained within the normal range of pale white. She looked at Ed, then at the several unfamiliar figures behind him.

She said anxiously, "Did you bring it? Where is the Sword of Mercy?" Her expression was somewhat dazed and anxious; she forced herself to calm down, becoming slightly more composed.

"Quick, I feel like I’m about to be overwhelmed by the darkness here. I can’t hold on much longer. I don’t want to fall into darkness. I don’t want to become an evil spirit."

As she spoke, her expression became dazed again, even revealing a hint of wickedness. The green mist behind her seemed to intensify.

"I want... a little blood, blood..."

Ed looked back at Andre, who had already moved his hands behind his back. The layers of the metal box opened, and the hilt of a sword slowly emerged. Andre gripped the hilt and drew it out, the blade immediately enveloped in a faint flame.

As Andre swung the sword, flames swirled around it, instantly dispelling the eerie green smoke emanating from Jasmine’s back. Unlike the smoke from the battle against the Archbishop’s evil spirits, this smoke didn’t carry the sensation of burning souls.

Jasmine, momentarily dazed, lost her wicked expression, returning to normal with a clear look of relief on her face.

"Thank you, thank you all. I felt as if the Holy Mother was embracing me."

"That was just an illusion. Now, bring out your remains and place them before you," Andre said expressionlessly as he stepped forward.

Jasmine nodded, looking at the Sword in Andre’s hand, and waved her hands. The soil in the pit below was lifted, and a skeleton was dragged out by an invisible force, then laid before her.

Looking at the skeleton, Andre gripped the Sword of Mercy, its tip pointing toward the bones below. Raising his head, he stared at the floating spirit and asked, "Is there anything else you’d like to say?"

Hearing this, Jasmine looked at Ed and the others, nodding to them. "Thank you. There are some magical items I used in the treasure chest below; I hope they can help you."

She then fixed her gaze on Ed. "Thank you for finding me. I’ve prepared a gift; I hope you’ll accept it."

Ed knew this so-called gift wasn’t originally intended for him but for Lucilia, and nodded in response.

Jasmine crossed her arms and closed her eyes. "May the Holy Mother bless you."

Seeing this, Andre knew she had said what she needed to say and was ready. He took a step forward, the tip of his sword pressed firmly against the skeleton.
