Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Energy Stones

The mutated Bleeding Heart Vine started to uproot some of its roots.

Stones and soil burst out from the ground as the mutated plant’s roots came out and started to attack Sylas.

Sylas immediately bent backwards, dodging the root that came straight at him.

Immediately standing straight, Sylas attacked the roots with his spatial blade. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

When the severed roots fell down, the mutated vine thrashed its roots and vines violently on the ground.

Several nearby trees and plants were damaged.

Sylas hurriedly deflected the vines and severed another mutated plant root.

Sylas could feel the mutated plant’s anger whenever he severed its roots.

’The root!’ Sylas had a sudden realization.

Sylas quickly realized that other than fire, the mutated plant could be killed by severing or damaging its roots.

Realizing this, Sylas focused on severing its roots. Spatial blades flew out and severed the roots. Chunks of severed roots fell down on the ground, twitching.

Whenever he severed one of its roots, the vines attacking him seemed to decrease in number.

Using his space barrier to block the vine attacks, Sylas quickly cut down all its roots. The Bleeding Heart Vine shook violently and uprooted all its roots and rushed towards Sylas.

Sylas flashed past the vines that were attacking him at great speed, leaving afterimages. He unleashed his spatial blade and aimed straight at its stem, wanting to sever its body from its roots.

The plant seemed to sense Sylas’ intention and hurriedly retracted all its vines to block Sylas’s spatial blade.

Sylas was not disappointed. He cut off the vines that had been used as a shield by the mutated plant and, with a fast reaction, immediately sent out another spatial blade.

The mutated plant tried to use its vines to block the spatial blade again, but it was too late.

Sylas’s spatial blade cleanly cut through the mutated plant’s stem, severing it from its roots.

The severed roots lay on the ground, twitching, and the body of the mutated plant lay wilted.

Sylas walked towards the stem and swung his arm at the mutated plant. The spatial blade immediately came out and cut open the stem.

Sylas picked out the green-colored plant ability energy stone from it. It was the size of a marble.

Sylas held it in his hand and immediately sensed his space. As expected, the water ability energy stone was nowhere in the space. Just like the earth ability energy stone, the space had automatically absorbed the water ability energy stone. Although he didn’t feel an increase in his strength, he didn’t struggle to deal with the mutated plant.

Also, there was a small pool of water inside his space. Sylas immediately knew it was the result of him absorbing the water ability energy stone.

Sylas looked down at the green plant ability energy stone in his hand and wondered what surprise this plant’s ability would bring him.

He stored it inside his space and, without wasting time, immediately turned back and headed straight towards the safe zone. It was dangerous to stay longer in the forest.

When Sylas reached the safe zone, he saw several soldiers standing guard at the wall.

When the soldiers saw Sylas coming back safely, they immediately shouted, "Mr. Gray is back."

"Go and notify Major Kyle," one of the soldiers shouted.

Sylas scanned the surroundings and saw that there were no more mutated birds attacking like before, but many soldiers still stood guard.

When Sylas entered the safe zone, Major Kyle and others immediately came to meet him.

"Sylas, my goodness, that was dangerous. Are you alright?" Dylan said as soon as he saw Sylas.

"What happened to that eagle?" Major Kyle asked after making sure that Sylas was alright.

Sylas was obviously not going to tell the truth now that he knew that the energy stones were useful for him.

"I lured it into the forest and fought it, but it managed to get away," Sylas lied with a straight face.

Major Kyle felt that it was a pity since that eagle had a water ability. But seeing Sylas coming back safely, he said, "It’s alright, as long as you are safe. But next time, don’t do it again. It is dangerous to make a move alone. Moreover, we are seeing an increase in mutations in plants, animals, and humans."

"Did you encounter a mutated plant too?" Sylas immediately asked.

"Yes. After dealing with the mutated birds, a tree near the safe zone that seemed to have mutated started attacking. We swiftly took it down and burned it, but what a pity it didn’t have an energy stone," Major Kyle explained.

"No energy stone?" Sylas was surprised and asked. He thought all mutated things had energy stones.

"Yes, we were also surprised. But I think it’s because it had only mutated not long ago. It seems it takes time for energy stones to form," Major Kyle explained.

"It makes sense," Sylas said, nodding his head.

"If all mutated living things had energy stones, the zombies might have them too," Sylas suddenly said, making everyone look at him.

"But we didn’t find energy stones in zombies’ heads," Leo said.

"If it takes time for energy stones to form, who knows? They might form one day too," Sylas said.

Everyone present immediately widened their eyes in realization.

Zombies could also be considered mutated beings, so there was a high possibility that they would form an energy stone. As for why they still hadn’t, it might be because it hadn’t been long enough since the start of the apocalypse.

"This is bad. If they start forming energy stones, it will not be a good thing for us," Major Kyle said.

"Will they have abilities too?" Serena suddenly said.

"Who knows? I am afraid that this is just the beginning. The worst nightmares are yet to come," Major Kyle said.

"If zombies with energy stones emerge, they might be able to control other zombies without energy stones, just like how that mutated eagle had been commanding other mutated birds to attack," Shuan added.

Major Kyle immediately stood up and said, "We need to gather supplies before it’s too late."
