Chapter 72: Chapter 72 Weird Zombie

Major Kyle held the glass vial and lightly swirled it. The golden liquid seemed to glow as it swirled inside the glass vial.

"What kind of liquid is this? It seems to glow," Major Kyle said as he marveled at the strange liquid.

"I also don’t know. I got it from one of the zombies. We don’t know if this zombie outbreak and the mutations in living organisms are man-made or natural, so we need to send any strange findings to the capital’s research lab. Who knows, we might find a clue," Colonel Saw said.

Sylas also looked at the glowing golden liquid in Major Kyle’s hand. He furrowed his brows. The strange entity he encountered, and now this strange liquid. These strange things that were slowly popping out made Sylas rethink again.

If this apocalypse is man-made, who is responsible for it? And if it’s not man-made, what triggered the apocalypse? Is it natural?

If it’s man-made, they wouldn’t just be fighting against the zombies but also against those behind this apocalypse. And those people would not put themselves in danger, so they would have made preparations to protect themselves. It wouldn’t be easy to take them down.

"If this apocalypse is man-made, the government should have already caught some clues. But how do we explain the awakening of abilities in humans?" Major Kyle said.

Colonel Saw crossed his arms and leaned back on the sofa. "We don’t know, but one thing is certain. If this apocalypse is man-made, we might all be a part of an experiment."

Colonel Saw’s words made both Sylas and Major Kyle freeze.

’A part of an experiment!’ Sylas thought and frowned. Who on earth would think of using the whole world as a part of an experiment? Or did it accidentally spiral out of control, affecting the whole world?

"That woman who is immune to the zombie virus, we need to check her background," Sylas suddenly said.

"Are you suspecting she might be an experimental subject?" Major Kyle asked.

"If the apocalypse is man-made, we cannot avoid this possibility. If she was a part of the experiment, she might know something," Sylas replied.

"What Sylas said makes sense too. You need to keep an eye on her. Make sure you safely escort her to the capital. After running several tests on her, the research team might get some clues," Colonel Saw said seriously.

"Don’t worry, we will do our best," Major Kyle said.

"When are you leaving?" Colonel Saw asked.

"We are leaving immediately," Major Kyle replied, standing up from his seat.

"The journey towards the capital by car will not be easy, and it will take time. You should at least have lunch before leaving," Colonel Saw said.

Major Kyle paused for a second before nodding his head.

After an hour, Major Kyle and Sylas bid farewell to Colonel Saw.

Standing at the gate of the safe zone, Colonel Saw said, "If fate allows, we will meet again."

"Hope to see you in the capital soon," Major Kyle said as his car passed by.

Sylas nodded his head at Colonel Saw as he started his car engine and followed behind the convoy of cars.

Almost all the survivors stayed back in N City’s safe zone, so this time, there were only a few survivor cars. The rest were all military cars.

On the way, even before leaving N City, they encountered several zombies and mutated plants.

Sylas was in deep thought as he drove the car. He was in a dilemma whether to travel with the military or act alone because if he was correct, the high-level zombies and mutated creatures were attracted to him. So, him traveling with others meant he was endangering the whole group. But what if he acted alone and Major Kyle and his group encountered high-level zombies and mutated creatures? Sylas didn’t know what to do.

It took them quite a while to get out of N City because they had to stop and fight the zombies and mutated creatures on the way.

Sylas was at the rear. His senses were spread out as he drove the car.

After getting out of N City, the sun began to set.

Sylas sensed something following behind his car. He frowned and tried to look at what it was from the car’s rearview mirror, but he didn’t see anything.

Sylas frowned as he kept driving his car. After a minute or so, suddenly something landed on the roof of his car.

Thump!

That thing that was following him was now on the roof of his car.

Sylas remained vigilant. Space energy started to surge out of his body, ready to fight.

Screech!

Something was scraping against the roof of his car.

Crack!

Sharp claws pierced through the car’s roof. Sylas stopped the car.

’Looks like I have no choice but to fight,’ Sylas thought as he cracked his neck.

Sylas then opened his car door and, at a fast speed, immediately got out of the car and landed several meters away from it.

Looking at the roof of his car, Sylas saw a seven to eight-year-old child clinging to the car roof.

Sensing Sylas behind it, the child immediately turned its head towards Sylas and made a low growl.

’A high-level zombie!’ Sylas thought as he observed the child. The child was a high-level zombie. It looked at Sylas with its red eyes and its mouth drooling.

Then suddenly, it pounced on Sylas.

Sylas immediately dodged. The zombie nimbly landed on the ground where Sylas was standing and continued to pounce on Sylas with its mouth wide open and drooling.

Sylas waved his hand, and a spatial blade rushed out towards the zombie. The zombie dodged the spatial blade nimbly. Its reflexes and agility were far superior to other high-level zombies.

The zombie twisted its small body mid-air as the spatial blades brushed past its torn clothes and struck the ground instead.

Bang!

Dust and gravel exploded outward, and the zombie landed lightly on all fours.

It growled unhappily at Sylas, and its red eyes locked onto him. Then it suddenly vanished from Sylas’ sight.

Sylas’ pupils shrank.

So fast!

Sylas felt a gust of wind brush past his ear. He instinctively raised a space barrier around him.

Bang!

The zombie hit the space barrier. The impact pushed Sylas half a step back. Even with the barrier cushioning the force, his arms felt slightly numb.

This zombie was not only fast but very strong too.

The zombie kicked off the barrier and flipped backward, landing on the ground safely. It crouched there like a feral animal with its head tilted and drool dripping from its mouth.

It was looking at Sylas as if he was its favorite food.

Sylas narrowed his eyes, and that stare made him feel uneasy.

This high-level zombie’s agility was far superior to the high-level zombies he had faced before. Its body was small, light, and explosive. If this continued, the prolonged fight would draw attention.

Sylas exhaled slowly as space energy surged out.

The zombie screeched and shot forward again. This time it didn’t attack directly. It disappeared from his sight.

Left!

Sylas turned sharply.

Too late.

The zombie’s sharp claws raked through his jacket. Luckily, only his jacket was torn.

Sylas stepped back and swung his hand in a horizontal arc. Three spatial blades shot outward in a fan shape.

The zombie growled and bent backward, its spine arching grotesquely. The spatial blades sliced through the air inches above its face. Then it quickly got up and lunged at Sylas.

Bang!

Sylas stomped hard on the ground, and earth energy surged out.

Crack!

The pavement beneath the zombie suddenly bulged upward. A stone spike shot toward its chest. The zombie jumped up, twisting its body mid-air to avoid the attack. But one of the stone spikes grazed the zombie’s thigh, and dark red blood immediately gushed out, making the zombie screech.

It landed and immediately retreated several meters back, glaring at Sylas.

Sylas raised his hand again and condensed a compressed spatial blade. Then, he sent it straight toward the zombie.

The zombie growled with its mouth drooling and dodged the compressed spatial attack. But it wasn’t able to dodge it completely. The compressed spatial blade cut off one of its arms.

Black blood spilled out. The child zombie roared in fury and slammed into Sylas with reckless force.

Bang!

Sylas raised a space barrier to block the attack. The impact made his arms numb, and he was forced back several meters.

So much strength in such a small body.

The zombie began clawing wildly at the barrier.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Sylas’ brow furrowed.

This high-level zombie was weird. It was very fast and strong, but it didn’t use mental attack. Sylas didn’t know why the zombie didn’t use mental attack, but it was a good thing for him.

Sylas stomped his foot again.

Crack!

The ground behind the zombie exploded upward, and a thick stone pillar shot up violently.

The zombie sensed danger and leapt aside to avoid the stone pillar. But Sylas didn’t give it time and immediately sent out a compressed spatial blade.

The zombie slashed its claws at the stone pillar and avoided the spatial blade with agile movements.

But at the same time, another stone pillar shot out from behind.

The stone pillar slammed into the zombie’s back before it could dodge. The zombie screeched in rage and pain.

Even after all this, the zombie didn’t use mental attack, which made Sylas confirm one thing, this zombie didn’t have mental energy.
