The Outergod's Avatar-Chapter 67: A Breath of Fresh Air
After dinner, Izikel stepped out of the house to get some fresh air... to get away from the noise inside.
He took a long breath in and exhaled slowly.
"The air outside feels better. Maybe it’s because of the fire lamps inside..." he muttered to himself, his voice quiet against the whispering wind.
He yawned, his arms stretching wide above his head, bones cracking softly. The cool air outside felt good against his skin, cleansing in a way the stuffy atmosphere indoors couldn’t be. He lingered there for a moment, under the dim glow of the moonlight, letting his body relax.
Then, moving with practiced subtlety, he made his way to a dark corner of the courtyard, away from the maids and guards. His eyes scanned the surroundings quickly. Satisfied that no one was watching, he raised his hand and summoned something using Dream Creation — a faint shimmer in the air, a quiet flicker of light, and then, just like that, a book materialized in his hand.
It was thick, with colorful pages and dynamic art. The cover practically glowed with polish. He grinned, his fingers tightening around the spine.
"Finally," he whispered to himself, voice giddy, "I can read the new release of All My Four Wives Are Beautiful Goddesses."
It was his favorite manhwa, one he could only access by risking his life with Dream Divination — a dangerous act that drew information from the dreams of others, using his Soul energy. But for this series? Totally worth it.
He opened it reverently, like a priest might handle a sacred relic.
’Is it even really a risk if I’m going to die anyway?’ he thought, flipping over the next page. ’At least I get to finish this masterpiece before I bite the dust.’
Fortunately for him, the book was extremely famous, with over fifty million readers back on earth. So the odds of him dying during divination was low.
"This guy doesn’t know how good he has it," Izikel murmured, referring to the protagonist of the manhwa. "Wish I had just one of those wives."
He shook his head with a sigh, but before he could get lost in the fantasy world of four divine spouses fighting over one clueless mortal, he noticed a flicker of movement in the shadows beneath the trees.
He froze for a second, eyes narrowing. His thumb held the page in place.
Something had definitely moved.
Of course, something always moved in the bushes — that was nature’s law. Still, curiosity, or maybe just the illusion of bravery, urged him forward. He carefully closed the manhwa and sent it back. His hand hovered near his side, ready to summon his gun if needed.
’There’s always something moving in the bushes...’ he thought nervously. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
And yet, forward he went.
As he neared the treeline, the shadows shifted again — and then a form emerged with calm, deliberate steps.
Nyx.
The creature moved with a subtle grace that felt unnatural in this world, almost too perfect. Every step was measured, elegant, its bright blue eyes glowing softly against the darkness. Its fur shimmered faintly like liquid ink under moonlight.
Izikel relaxed just a little.
"Oh, it’s you," he muttered, tension leaving his shoulders as he stared into the beast’s glowing eyes.
Nyx walked closer, slow and confident, until he was just a few feet away from Izikel. Then the voice followed — smooth, clear, and familiar.
"Lord Izikel," Sophia called gently, from Izikel’s back. "For your own safety, you shouldn’t be playing outside at this time."
"I’m not playing," he replied, turning to face her with a mock glare. "I thought I heard something, so I came to check it out. I can’t believe you snitched on me, man. That’s not cool."
Nyx stared back at him with the same unreadable stoic expression as always, but Sophia burst out laughing — light and amused, the sound ringing through the quiet night.
"He didn’t snitch," she explained through her graceful chuckles. "Our minds are connected. And shouldn’t the normal reaction to a suspicious noise be running away from it?"
Izikel thought about it for a few seconds, scratching the back of his head.
"I was just checking it out," he said finally. "What if it was something dangerous? I couldn’t just leave it like that."
’But if it was, what would I have done...?’ he thought, quietly. His gun might make him feel braver, but deep down, he wasn’t sure if it would even matter against the monsters in this world.
Still, just having the gun made him feel like he could do something.
Nyx rubbed his furry side against Izikel’s body gently, almost like a large loyal dog, and Izikel gave in, petting the beast’s sleek head. Nyx gave him a few playful licks on the cheek, his massive tail swaying.
"Well, you shouldn’t do that next time," Sophia warned. "Raynoel is still out there."
’Oh yeah... I almost forgot about that guy,’ Izikel remembered.
He hadn’t thought much about the High Priest, mostly because he figured he wouldn’t live long enough for that threat to matter. The universe always had a funny way of doing things.
’Let’s not think about depressing thoughts,’ he told himself.
"Hey, Sophia," he asked curiously, "how does your bond with Nyx actually work? Are you controlling his mind or something?"
"No, not at all," she replied. "Nyx and I have a partnership. Our souls are bonded. So we do what we can to protect each other,"
Izikel raised an eyebrow.
"So he’s actually alive? I thought he was some kind of construct you could only summon at night."
"Nyx is a real beast. But the sun burns his skin, so he has to return home at dawn. I use my soul energy to bring him here and send him back. I believe he’s from a world where there’s only night,"
"Oh..." Izikel nodded slowly, realizing what that meant.
So she was calling the beast from another world... or maybe just another side of this one. If this world was round like earth, it was possible Nyx came from a continent on the other side — assuming this world even had other continents. It wasn’t like the people of this world had maps of the globe. For all they knew, their entire "world" was just one massive, isolated island.
’That would mean there are other continents out there... With other monsters...’ he thought.
’Maybe it’s a good thing I’ll never get to find out.’
Sophia’s voice brought him back to the present.
"Lord Izikel, we should head back inside."
"Yeah, you’re right," he agreed, brushing his hands off and standing fully.
"There’s still an invisible assassin trying to kill me," he added in a playful tone, smirking as he walked back with her and Nyx.

The next morning, Izikel woke up just as tired as usual. As if led by some invisible spirit, he groggily opened his room door — only to see Lyzah standing right there, fist raised mid-knock.
She jumped slightly. "You’re up?"
Izikel blinked at her. "Why wouldn’t I be? You’ve used your daily disturbance to ruin my body clock."
She stared at him, confused.
"You probably don’t even know what a body clock is, do you?"
"What is a clock?" she asked, genuinely puzzled.
Izikel shook his head in pure disappointment. "It’s something people use to tell the time."
She kept her confused expression.
He sighed, more dramatically this time. "Just forget about it. What do you want?"
"Have you forgotten we had a deal? Get dressed so we can go."
