The Priest Is Weak? My Buffs Stack Forever-Chapter 23: Encountering a Demon Soldier, Killing Daven
The female soldiers and male soldiers had separate dorms, but they weren’t far apart.
Isolde didn’t trust John, so she chose a place close to his dorm. They were less than fifty meters apart. Her danger sense could cover this area.
Night fell, and torches were lit around the camp. Monster growls echoed from time to time. Sometimes, there was also the sound of fighting. The atmosphere was tense.
Soon, midnight came, and John’s group gathered.
Daven was sitting on the ground, carefully cleaning his sword. When everyone showed up, he stood up and said, "Our patrol is five hundred meters outside the wall. Follow me out of the city."
He said that, then walked out of the city first.
Isolde followed close behind John. She whispered, "John, I’m sure this guy has bad intentions. Once we go outside, it’ll be even more dangerous."
She still wanted to take John and run. They could become refugees if needed.
John whispered back, "Don’t worry. This guy can’t hurt me."
Isolde didn’t know why he was so confident, but she stopped talking. She just became more alert.
Howl...
It was dark outside the city. Not far away was a deep forest. Monster growls echoed constantly.
The group followed Daven, all looking nervous.
Soon, they entered the forest. It was dark, and their sight was limited.
Luckily, Isolde’s danger sense didn’t detect any monsters nearby.
But the biggest danger wasn’t the monsters. It was Daven.
At that moment, Daven stopped and said, "Stay here for a while. I’ll go check around."
The others nodded in agreement. They were grateful. Except for John and Isolde, the other three were weak. They might not even be able to fight a werewolf.
Daven pulled out his sword and quickly disappeared into the dark.
John was on high alert. He didn’t know what this guy was up to.
"Our leader seems okay," one of them said.
"Yeah. I hope we make it through these three months without a beast wave," the other added.
John ignored their conversation. He didn’t think Daven was a good person at all.
"Wait, a monster is coming!" Isolde suddenly warned, her eyes wide.
Her danger sense picked up a Stage 2 monster approaching quickly.
Roar!
At that moment, a loud roar echoed, and the trees in front of them shook. A figure appeared - it was Daven.
Behind him was a monster - a Stage 2 Demon Soldier at level 30.
Isolde quickly raised her shield in front of John, her face cold.
This Demon Soldier was brought here on purpose by Daven!
The others hadn’t realized the danger yet. A Demon Soldier was there, and Daven, the captain, could easily handle it.
But then, Daven suddenly rushed toward them, no sign of attacking. His expression was mocking, and his cold voice echoed, "Looks like I found a lone Demon Soldier. Let you two practice."
"What?" One of them shouted, quickly saying, "Captain, don’t joke around. Besides that girl, we’re all support classes. Some of us don’t even have game stats. How can we fight a monster?"
"Yeah, captain, just kill it already," another added.
They were panicked and begged for help.
Daven’s face stayed cold. "Shut up. I told you to fight, so fight!"
John realized what was going on. There were rules in the army. Fighting wasn’t allowed. This guy was trying to use the monster to kill him.
"Captain, what are you trying to do?" One of them got angry, but the Demon Soldier was already on him.
Crack!
A soft sound. The man didn’t react at all. His neck was bitten off, and blood sprayed everywhere.
"Run!" The others finally understood. Their faces were full of fear, and they ran in all directions.
But how could they be faster than a Demon Soldier?
"Damn you, Daven! I’ll haunt you even when I’m dead!" One of them cursed, but his voice stopped suddenly. His heart was pierced by the monster’s claws.
The Demon Soldier jumped again, caught up with another, and ripped him apart. Blood sprayed everywhere.
Just a few moments ago, those three had called Daven a good guy. Now, they were all dead because of him.
The Demon Soldier licked its lips, then locked its cold eyes on John and Isolde.
"John, I’ll hold it off. You run!" Isolde stood in front of him, gripping her shield tightly. Her hands were sweaty.
John didn’t move. He coldly looked at Daven, who was standing there, watching.
Howl!
The Demon Soldier roared and rushed forward.
At the same time, a figure ran out. It was John.
"John, danger!" Isolde’s eyes widened. She was scared and ran after him without thinking.
Plop!
Blood spread out, and a scream echoed. A black-scaled arm flew through the air.
It was the Demon Soldier’s arm.
"Hmm?" Isolde was shocked. "John, why is your damage so high?"
Daven, who had been watching from the side, frowned. But he could see that John’s own stats weren’t strong. It had to be the sharpness of his sword.
The Demon Soldier didn’t back down after losing its arm. Instead, it became even more violent and charged again.
"Die!" John growled. He stepped forward and drove his sword deep into the Demon Soldier’s chest.
The scale armor cracked, and the long sword came out through the other side. Black blood splattered all over John.
The Demon Soldier’s claws were just one inch away from John’s neck.
Clap clap... A clear sound of clapping came from the side. Daven had a cold smile on his face. He looked John up and down and said, "I didn’t expect you to have some skills after all."
John coldly sneered. He pulled the sword out and shook off the black blood. He said coldly, "Is it the city lord who sent you to kill me?"
"You still came with me. That’s really arrogant. If that’s the case, you should just go now." Daven noticed that a small group was starting to notice what was happening. He didn’t want to waste time. He swung his long sword and charged at John.
"Isolde, I can handle this."
John said that, and gently pushed Isolde away. Then he threw his sword forward.
Daven was shocked. He happily caught it and looked at it closely. Then he frowned. "No, this is just a normal steel sword."
At that moment, John picked up the broken arm of the Demon Soldier and ran at Daven.
"Die!" Daven was furious and swung his sword down.
Clang! A loud metal collision. Sparks flew everywhere.
The Demon Soldier’s arm was covered in small scales. It easily blocked Daven’s attack.
John felt much more confident. With two points of attack speed, the broken arm in his hand was almost a blur.
The sharp claws of the arm tore through Daven’s armor. Flesh flew everywhere. He let out a painful scream.
But the next second, the claws pierced his chest.
Cough! Daven’s eyes opened wide. He coughed up blood and stared at John, trembling as he asked, "You... you’re not a Cleric..."
He never expected to fail like this. He was going to die at the hands of a beginner.
"Stupid!" John sneered. He turned the arm and crushed Daven’s internal organs. Then he pulled it out.
Blood sprayed. Daven fell to the ground lifelessly.
"What’s going on?" A voice called from the forest. A group of soldiers ran toward them quickly.
John quickly threw away the broken arm of the Demon Soldier. He looked very shocked and said, "There was a Demon Soldier here. Captain Daven saved us and was killed by it!"
At that moment, Isolde came out of her shock. She looked at John and understood his plan.
"Captain Daven!" The soldiers cried and ran over to check his injuries.
Daven’s eyes were wide open. He had no more breath. His eyes didn’t close.
"Captain Daven died to save us..." Isolde said with a sad face.
The leader of the soldiers was confused. He knew Daven’s strength. He couldn’t have been killed by a Demon Soldier.
It must have been a surprise attack at night. He didn’t suspect John and Isolde. He looked sad and ordered, "Watch out. Check if there are more Demon Soldiers around."
"Yes." The others answered and quickly spread out.
The leader turned to John and Isolde and said, "You are members of Captain Daven’s team, right? I’m sure you were scared by what happened. Go back and rest. I’ll reassign your group tomorrow."
"Okay. Thank you, sir." John thanked him and looked at Daven’s body with sadness. He pulled Isolde and left.
"John, you’re so mean. You even kept it from me. I was really worried!"
Isolde was angry. She pinched the soft part of John’s waist.
"Ow, Isolde, that hurts!" He whispered in pain.
Isolde felt a little sorry. She gently rubbed his waist.
John took her hand and said, "There’s nothing to do tonight. Let’s log into the game. I’ll help you level up."
"Okay!" Isolde’s eyes lit up. She had given up hope before, but now, seeing how strong John was, it seemed possible that he could really help her complete her level-up quest.
