Chapter 113: Bahamut and Alana’s Talk

Bahamut and the others had returned to the sect about an hour ago and were just waiting to be allowed entry into Exildra’s room. Henut had informed them that she was responding to treatment, but that had also caused the parasite to react aggressively; since it was still at the early stages, its actions were futile against a healer as powerful as Henut.

Her family had also sent healers to assist Henut to stabilize her condition.

Currently, Bahamut was on the roof of their residence. They would only be allowed to meet Exildra the following day, so he was using the current time to think. He’d even ignored the system notifications, whether they were updates or rewards or whatever; he was not in the mood to check them. It wasn’t like the system gave him power. It was just a guide with some special perks to assist him in cultivation. That’s all.

He lay with his head to the wall, and his eyes closed beneath the blindfold. Ren lay sprawled beside him, his marks pulsing as he slept and cultivated at the same time. A canopy was above them, blocking out the rain, though the occasional wind blew some onto them. Not like they even cared. They were not even in the world physically.

Bahamut’s body suddenly stiffened as he found himself in the world of darkness again. This time, he appeared directly in the hall where the cowlady slept in her cocoon of darkness.

"Wha-!"

Bahamut was shocked at his sudden appearance there and exclaimed loudly, drawing the attention of the cowlady. She was fast asleep in the cocoon when she heard his exclamation, causing her to wake up.

"M-Master?" she asked in her cute and sweet, yet robotic voice.

"Yes?" Bahamut said, unsure of how to answer her. She wasn’t a beast, but a sentient person. Well, she was a beast in a sense, but that wasn’t the case here. She was a person...

"Mm," she nodded quietly. Bahamut stared at the lady in front of him in silence for a long time before he moved to sit beside her cocoon.

"So... Do you remember anything?" Bahamu asked without looking at her. She was still naked, and he did not want to be tempted by any wild thoughts. The lady was too beautiful.

There was silence for a few minutes. It had almost gotten awkward when Bahamut felt a chill down his spine. He turned to see the lady with a hollowed expression. Tears fell freely down her cheeks as she sobbed silently.

"It was scary... He killed them..." the lady cried and choked on her own words. Bahamut was at a loss for what to do. It felt weird that a woman who looked older than him was crying as he sat there.

"What exactly happened?" It seems our guy is a dud, or he just can’t read the room.

"They were eaten... by the man with green eyes..."

Bahamut’s expression twisted in sorrow and anger. ’So that is why she was like that... It was just a way to protect herself.’

The ghoul... the man with green eyes, had killed her parents... eaten them up. Right in front of her. He couldn’t imagine how horrific that would be. It was even a miracle that she could talk. Most would have become too broken to even reason.

"I’m sorry for your loss..."

"Will he come for me too?! I’m scared. I don’t want him to eat me up!" the cowlady exclaimed in a sobbing fit with a horrified expression.

"He can never get you. Ever again. Because you are here with me. But... you can get him," Bahamut said as he looked at her in the eye. His blindfold was off, so he was staring at her with his strange eyes, and she wasn’t even staring away.

"What do you mean..."

"Do you want to kill him? The man?"

"Yes... but..."

"Then it is decided. We will kill him."

The cowlady stared at the young man in front of her with a shocked expression. So this was the kind of person her whole being screamed "Master" to.

"So, what is your name?" Bahamut asked, taking a seat on her cocoon. Strangely enough, it was tangible. In fact, all the shadows and darkness here were tangible, which brought up many questions.

"Alana..." the cowlady replied in a small voice.

"Alana?" Bahamut asked her for clarification.

"Mm."

"Just Alana?" he inquired again.

"I don’t have a second name yet. I would’ve gotten it on the day I became an adult and have a mate," Alana replied in a small voice. "But, since you are now my master, you can also give me a second name. It also works."

"I see..." Bahamut looked at the cowlady with a solemn gaze. If what she said was true, then that meant that she wouldn’t have been an adult by now if the ghoul hadn’t attacked Farronhold. She would have still been a kid. That also brought up these questions.

Why does Lily have a surname? Are there different cultures even among the beast-kin race?

Well, he wasn’t going to get his answers here. He might as well keep them to ask later from his senior, Apollonia, or his cute master.

"Cute," Bahamut said his thoughts aloud, causing Alana to stare at him in confusion.

"My name is Bahamut."

"No second name?" Alana asked with a tilt of her head, but her expression was still changing between confusion and no expression at all.

"Nope. I named myself... haha!" Bahamut answered with a chuckle, making Alana look at him as if he had grown two heads.

"You have no parents?" Alana asked again.

"I don’t know. I never saw them," Bahamut answered coolly, though in his mind. ’Hell! I got reincarnated here!’

"Sad..."

Bahamut just looked at the lady beside him and laughed... for the first time since Exildra went into a coma. Despite her tragedy, she had this vibe around her that made their conversation much lighter than one would expect. Bahamut knew if it were to be him, he would have attacked his master at first sight.

Alana was strong. But that strength was just a facade for the madness she was keeping in. He could tell from the aura she was unconsciously releasing. She was dangerous.

"Can I get out of here?" Alana suddenly asked.

"Of course. But can you wait a bit? I will have to inform my master first."

"You have a master?"

"Something like that. She is more like my teacher."

"Wow."

Outside, Bahamut slept with a calm face, enjoying the cool breeze that came with the rain. Ren slept by him, his marks pulsing with each breath he took. Sel sat on the strong canopy, cultivating shirtless in the rain, his hair glowing with green tips.

But inside his contract space, he was having a conversation with a person who would become one of his greatest assets.

"I think I have a second name for you... Nyx," Bahamut suddenly said.

"Nyx?" Alana inquired.

"Yes. It is the name of a very powerful goddess. Nyx."

"I like it... Alana Nyx."

"It suits you..."

Master and contracted were already bonding.

Somewhere else, a golden-haired girl was battling a storm, and the only thing that kept her going was the memory of the blindfolded guy. Otherwise, she would have fallen.

...

In a well-lit room, a group of healers worked tirelessly, moving to and fro around a frail and pale-looking golden-haired elven girl. Half of her face, her right, was bandaged tightly. Her face twisted occasionally in her pain, while the bandage soaked gradually with dark-colored blood.

Her skin had also lost so much color that her veins were almost visible. She had also grown thin, and all this had happened in just two days.

Henut stared calmly at the elven girl while the other healers worked to stabilize her condition and slow down the actions of the parasite. As she stood there with a contemplative expression, a man approached her. He had long blonde hair, blue eyes, and elf ears.

"Chief Healer... I believe it’s time we call in the boy. We can’t keep delaying it, and his method seems... plausible," the man said, adjusting his glasses.

"Do you seriously believe that? What if she dies, Sir Claude?" Henut asked with a serious expression.

"It’s better to see her dead than see her suffer, only to become a ghoul in the end. Not my words, but her parents. And I support them," Claude answered with a calm expression, but his eyes held a different story. Exildra was his student and his favorite niece. He just couldn’t bear to see her suffering. So, if there was even a tiny bit of chance to save her, then he was all in. Even if she died, he would grieve her with a calm heart, no matter how painful it would be. That was better than her transforming into a ghoul... he knew, he would be forced to take action and kill his own family with his hands.

That was a sin he didn’t want to commit. Ever.

"But..."

"Can’t you see? She’s fighting the parasite herself. The only thing you healers are doing is to support her and delay the inevitable. Besides, the boy is willing to use his own life force. He is willing to sacrifice years of his life to save hers. What more do you want to see before you allow him to do it?" Claude asked with a pained expression. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Sigh... Call him in," Henut said with a defeated expression. "But, remember... If anything bad happens, you will have yourself and your blind trust to blame."

"We are willing to take that risk."

"Fine..."

...

Bahamut, Sel, and Ren rushed to Elder Silvia’s residence. It was finally time to see Exildra. He could only count on his hopes on the system now.

’System, don’t fail me.’
