The Psychopathic Beast Emperor-Chapter 117: System Update! Affinities
Bahamut lay on his bed alongside Exildra, who was sleeping with her head on his chest with a content smile. She had taken off the bandage on her face. The skin there had healed completely, like it wasn’t the same place the ghoul clawed. Her eye though was closed tight, refusing to open. It was damaged and it was a very great miracle that it was healing.
Bahamut’s hand brushed Exildra’s golden hair absentmindedly as he stared upwards with a shocked expression. The reason was for the system messages he’d ignored until now...

...
Yes! He was shocked. He had moved up so fast that he couldn’t figure out how he did it. He knew his fight with the ghoul had pushed him to break past his limits. He knew the suppressors also played a very important factor in his current strength. Just by clenching his fist, he could sense the power brimming inside them, waiting to be unleashed. This made him wonder... If there had been no suppressors, would he have reached this level of strength? If he hadn’t gone on this mission, would he have gotten this far?
Everything was a mystery to him, and he’d yet to even start looking for answers. After all, he was technically blind. He was new to this world... though not so new. He couldn’t read their text. Ren was also an illiterate in reading and writing. He was blind his whole life, until Bahamut appeared, so even if he knew something about this world, which Bahamut already knew, the rest were missing to him. They could only be found in scrolls and books, and none of them could read.
Ignoring that for now, Bahamut scrolled down till he reached a new section: Powers. There, he saw element(s) and affinity(s). He knew that at Tier 2, one awakened an element or elements. The most known was two elements. He also knew of affinities, factors that determined what element one would awaken. At Circle of Initiation, you could even use small bursts of your element with your affinity. Like his fight with the Crimson Fox. It was at Circle of Initiation, and could already use a small version of its fire element by generating heat.
But looking at what he had here, he didn’t know how to react. Six different elements, all with 50%+ compatibilities! He knew from what Sel told him that there was no actual method to calculate the level or percentage of an affinity, but there were signs to know how high your affinity with an element was. And that was the burst.
If you could use a burst of your element for close to three minutes, then it was definitely 50% or beyond, which meant that awakening that element’s core was an assured success. So seeing all his six affinities with 50% and beyond compatibilities, Bahamut realized just how broken he might be.
Six affinities with 50%+ compatibilities meant six elements! And all that belonged to one person... him. He even ignored the other stuff.
’System. Why is my compatibility with darkness higher than the rest?’ Bahamut asked the system with a raised eyebrow. Exildra turned in her sleep while muttering indiscernible words in a cute voice. Bahamut looked at her with a smile and muttered.
"Cute."
The system’s cold and robotic tone answered him.
[The reason is that, your contracted servant has a very high attunement to darkness. She is almost one with darkness. Meaning, even without awakening the element, she can use it but with a limit.]
’You mean Alana hasn’t awakened?’
[She’s still a child... in beast-kin sense. Beast-kin grow differently from the norm. A cub is a Tier 1. Once they go through their first evolution, they become teenagers and gain up to Tier 1, Circle of Mind. Their life as a cub is Circle of Body. That is why you will find beast-kin with stronger bodies than any other race except demons and angels.
They live their whole childhood, cultivating Circle of Body unconsciously. Circle of Mind and Spirit are for their teenage years, close to adulthood. Alana went through a forced evolution, but because you contracted her, your concept suppressed the full force of her evolution, otherwise she would have been consumed by it.
Currently, she is at Circle of Initiation, just like you. Another thing is that, beast-kin do not use ages. They use evolutions or growth spurts. Each major evolution comes with a growth spurt, and each beast-kin tribe, has their own evolutions and growth spurts.
Your high compatibility with darkness is because you contracted Alana. If you had contracted Ren, there is high possibility that you would gain an affinity to chaos too.]
’Does that mean that my elements are based on contracts or beasts I killed or what exactly?’
[No. Elements are attributes of the soul that have a relationship with the world itself. You don’t gain an element from a contract. What you could gain from a contract is the element’ affinity, and even with that, it is not always the case because it depends on the type of contract used.
If the contract is a high level one that involves even the soul, then it is highly possible to awaken an affinity from that, but awakening the element is up to you and luck. If it is a normal master-slave contract or a beast tamer contract, then there’s absolutely no chance to awaken an affinity.
As for your elements, as explained earlier, they are from your soul. You realize you are different and not of this world. The elements are imprints of experiences from all your deaths and reincarnations on your soul. Darkness has a higher percentage because you have a contract with someone who has that affinity.]
’Hmm... meaning if I didn’t have darkness, the most I would’ve gotten from Alana will be 5%...’
[Exactly.]
’Nice. So, would I awaken all of them together?’
[To fully awaken the element you have an affinity to, the percentage must reach at least 85%. That is why you form the elemental core in Tier 2: Elemental Core Formation. It takes time and focus to form it. That is why Ren was still weak for a Tier 2 some weeks ago. But, he’s getting stronger by forming his core.
Which means for you, you will have to form either a single, large core for all the elements or six different elements. If you go with the first option, then you will have to very hard to form that single core, which is not advisable. Because, the elements are volatile to their opposites.
The second option is the best, but you will have to work extremely hard. You will have to work 600% harder than others to form each core. If you were anyone, you would have to find ways to increase your soul capacity, but your soul is already huge enough to contain more than a hundred elemental cores. So you will have it easier there, but that also increases your load of work.]
’Uh...’
[...]
Bahamut was rendered speechless from what he had just learnt. He had a monstrous level of potential, but it came with monstrous challenges. He could already imagine what kind of monster he would become, not like he wasn’t one already. He had killed two Tier 2 beasts as a Tier 1. Even if he suffered before he achieved that victory, even dying in one, he had still killed them. And now, he could feel that killing them would be a lot easier. He would put in effort, but not as much before.
And this was only considering if he used his strength and his Chimera attributes of using different beast traits. Adding element, his concept, and maybe a weapon would increase how easy it would be to kill Tier 2.
And thinking further, he recalled one of his past lives where he was a young, rich boy. He was an Otaku in that life. He remembered watching an anime where a boy wore weights to limit his strength. When the boy took off the weights, his strength exploded by a very huge margin.
This made him shiver as he wondered just how powerful he would become if his suppressors were ever taken off or deactivated.
’I LOVE THIS LIFE!’ he exclaimed in his mind.
[Don’t get your hopes high...]
The system’s statement made him reconsider his exclamation. The system was just like life... unpredictable.
His eyes turned towards the glowing icon of a box as he forced himself to ignore the system’s statement. It was time to check his rewards!
