BANG!

In a state of unprecedented fear, Qin Fan casually slammed Miao Yingjie onto the ground.

With his left hand in his pocket and his right hanging loosely at his side, he coldly ordered, "Take me to Miao Haohao. That's the only reason you're alive."

"Cough, cough—cough, cough—!"

Clutching his throat, which had nearly been crushed, Miao Yingjie coughed violently as he gasped for air. As color returned to his deathly pale face, he slowly staggered to his feet. Staring at Qin Fan, he stammered in terror, "If I lead you to kill Miao Haohao, I'll die too! My father and the others will never let me go!"

"Do you have a choice?" Qin Fan mocked him with a smirk.

"I'm dead either way! I can take you to Miao Haohao, but please, I beg you to promise me one thing!" As he spoke, Miao Yingjie's expression turned fierce, his eyes filling with bitter, venomous hatred.

Seeing this, Qin Fan laughed. He seemed to have an idea.

"What?" he teased. "Don't tell me you want me to kill your father for you while I'm at it?"

"You'll have to kill him! He'll protect Miao Haohao, he always does! It's been this way since we were little. Sometimes I even wonder if I'm his real son. I'm older than Miao Haohao, and my aptitude isn't that much worse than his! But for as long as I can remember, they poured every resource they had into him. In their eyes, I was just a useless waste of space, a freeloader! I'm sick of it! So sick of it! Why should Miao Haohao be the next Clan Leader? Why?! If I had his resources, I wouldn't be any worse than him! I certainly wouldn't have lost the Dead Man Gu on my first mission! I refuse to accept this! I refuse!"

As he spoke, Miao Yingjie descended into a frenzy, gesticulating wildly as he roared, the veins on his neck bulging. Then, he laughed, an eerie and unsettling sound. "You know what? Just a moment ago, all I did was state a few facts about Miao Haohao, and my father slammed the table, shattered his cup, and screamed that I had no right to speak! Haha! No right! I don't even have the right to speak! I hate him! I hate him!"

"What does your bitterness or hatred have to do with me?" During his years on the Cangqiong Continent, Qin Fan had long grown accustomed to the light and darkness of human nature. He had witnessed atrocities far more inhumane than this, so Miao Yingjie's tirade barely registered. He simply asked the question with a faint, mocking smile.

"I want to be the Clan Leader! I'm begging you, help me! If I can become the Clan Leader, you will be my master from this day forward. The Gu Clan will heed your every command, and I will go through fire and water at your behest! I know they all look down on me. I want to make them regret it. I'll make them pay the price for their regret!"

Miao Yingjie dropped to his knees before Qin Fan, his voice sharp with determination as he spoke through clenched teeth.

This drastic turn of events should not have happened. However, seeing Qin Fan incinerate his tamed Gu with a single wave of his hand was enough to ignite the ambition that lurked deep within him. All pretense was gone, and the flames of his hatred and jealousy were laid bare.

"And you think I need your clan to heed my command?" Qin Fan looked down at him, a contemptuous laugh escaping his lips.

"I know that with your strength, you don't need us. But I'm guessing you wouldn't mind keeping a dog! And I am willing to be your dog! Just let me become the Clan Leader!" Kneeling on the ground, Miao Yingjie stared up at Qin Fan, his eyes burning with rabid desire.

"Keeping a dog, you say? Now that you mention it, that might be a fine idea." With a deliberate nod and a smirk, Qin Fan seemed to agree. "Get up. Take me to Miao Haohao."

"Yes, Master!" Miao Yingjie shouted, the hatred on his face twisting into an expression of infinite savagery.

From that moment on, he cast aside the last vestiges of his humanity.

"Master, this way, please." He rose to his feet, bowed respectfully, and gestured forward before striding ahead to lead the way.

「In the main house, the symbol of the Miao Clan's highest status.」

Having vented his brutal impulses, Miao Renlong put on a show of fatherly affection. He took out a jade bottle filled with powder and spoke to Miao Haohao in a pained tone, "Here, son. This is the medicinal powder your future father-in-law, Yao Junxian, brought last time. It's very effective. Take off your clothes and apply it. The pain will fade, and you'll be healed in no time."

"Thank you, Dad," Miao Haohao said, his voice quivering as he took the uncapped bottle from Miao Renlong with trembling hands.

Although his father's split personality had cast a dark shadow over his childhood, he had never gotten used to it, even after all these years.

Often, Miao Renlong felt like a loving father. But more often than not, that loving father was a demon—a perverse monster who had tormented him until his mind was twisted.

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP!

The crisp sound of applause suddenly shattered the warm, harmonious moment between father and son.

Miao Haohao reflexively scrambled to pull his clothes back on. No matter how severe the injuries his father inflicted, no third party could ever find out. This had been their unspoken agreement for years.

Hearing the applause, Miao Renlong's face contorted with rage. He whipped his head around to look outside. When he saw it was his eldest son, Miao Yingjie, his fury exploded.

"Why the fuck are you back? Go die! You waste! I should have shot you against a wall instead of letting you be born! You're just like your goddamn dead mother, a pathetic bitch! I don't want to see you! Get out! Get the hell out now!" Miao Renlong's eyes bulged with rage as he pointed at the approaching Miao Yingjie, his disorder flaring up once more.

"Dad, perhaps this is the last time I'll ever call you that." Miao Yingjie sighed with a scornful laugh as he strolled from the courtyard into the main hall, still clapping his hands slowly. "If my memory serves me right, you're the old bastard who beat Mom to death, aren't you? You deceived Grandpa and all of your brothers, but you couldn't deceive me. I saw the whole thing from the shadows!

"And you, my dear third brother, stop trying to hide it. Maybe you think your little cycle of abuse and victimhood is a secret, but I've seen it three times. This makes the fourth! How does it feel, third brother? Why are you so pathetic? You know this old bastard is a freak, so why do you keep letting him torture you? If it were me... hah! I would've found a way to kill him long ago and take over as Clan Leader! What a pity. You missed your chance."

"You vile beast! What nonsense are you spouting?" With his secrets exposed, Miao Renlong's face flooded with panic, quickly followed by murderous intent.

They say a tiger won't eat its own young, but that saying meant nothing to a psychopath with a severe personality disorder.

"You know damn well whether I'm spouting nonsense!" Miao Yingjie roared, his towering, long-suppressed fury finally on full display.

"Dad, is what big brother said true? Did Mom really get—"

Miao Haohao's face turned deathly pale in shock, but before he could finish, Miao Renlong struck him across the face with a vicious slap. "He's talking utter nonsense!"

With that, his rage intensified, and he fixed his murderous gaze on Miao Yingjie. "Fine, fine!" he snarled, his face a mask of brutality. "So you, you vile beast, dare to speak such treacherous words! Then I, Miao Renlong, no longer have a son like you! I gave you your life, and today, I'm fucking taking it back!"

As he finished speaking and prepared to lunge at Miao Yingjie, a sudden, wild laugh erupted from the courtyard.

The laughter died down, and a voice rang out. "Who are you to kill my dog?"
