Chapter 29 - Chilling

"...And then when he dug the soil under the beautiful roses, there were intestines, guts, and all other internal organs buried. Instead of taking a step back, he was intrigued. He then noticed the beating heart and reached out for it, tempted. His eyes...."

Violet paused chewing the meat at the grotesque content of the novel. Staring at the meat on the plate only conjured up disgust inside her.

Those silver blue eyes held a glint in them, as though Sylas was enjoying this.

Nervously, Violet reached out for the glass of watermelon juice. When she took a sip out of it, she noticed the red hue of the juice made her choke. She shuddered and put away the glass, thinking of the cannibalistic characters of the novel.

As Sylas went to describe how the son cut up his dad's body when he was still alive breathing, starting with carving out his eyeball and eating it raw in front of him, Violet wasn't able to hold back her nausea anymore.

The antihistamine drug she has been prescribed by the doctor to control her nausea couldn't keep it in any longer.

And then, chill covered Violet's back, feeling as though creatures hid in the shadow. Pairs of creepy eyes were observing each of her actions, waiting to make a move on her.

"I will return," Violet said, rushing inside the house hurriedly.

The playfulness on Sylas's face has disappeared to take on a solemn expression, and he stood up from his chair. Then, he said, " We have guests."

Lucas and Lydia also recognized the presence of foreign werewolves. Leaving behind their bickering, they turned to become alert as well.

Then, there were bunch of werewolves rushing forward, and standing in front of them was the Alpha James of Yellow Arrow pack.

"Not this Yellow Arrow pack bastard again. I swear they are persistent." Lucas's voice wasn't low, letting everyone be clear of his dissatisfaction through his blatant disrespect.

James remained unfazed. He remained a smiling attitude as he spoke out, "I apologize to barge in on you when you are having such a pleasant party, but you see, this time I come here with the permission of the council.

All the packs have recently expressed that they had seen suspicious activity recently, and the council sent me here to inspect it. I hope you can cooperate, Alpha Sylas."

He emphasized the word 'council', indicating to Sylas how he couldn't go against the council.

"And if I do not cooperate?" The corner of Sylas's lips curled up, but that smile did not reach his eyes.

Those steely blue eyes were frighteningly cold, pressuring all to bow down and submit. They shuddered involuntarily.

Alpha James maintained his composure. "Then, we would have to force our way in."

Sylas was amused. His gaze swept over the army of werewolves, making their heart tighten in anxiety. He was well prepared indeed.

"Oh? Who is going to step up first?" Sylas asked. "It had been a while since I took some werewolf lives. Play with me for a while, and I will allow you to inspect, alright?"

There was an undeniable arrogance in Sylas's voice.

Lucas stared up at the sky and sighed. "They came to mess with the Alpha on the wrong day. It's almost the full moon. He must be agitated."

Lydia shrugged her shoulders. "I say it's perfect. At least the furniture wouldn't have to bear the brunt of his rage."

James' eyes flashed golden, from the anger bubbling inside him. Since his pack was most powerful here, he was used to having even the other pack Alphas being careful to him.

Now, Sylas's arrogance got under his skin.

"Will you be resisting the council?" James asked.

"Didn't I say I would cooperate? But you heard the rumors, right? How can I keep my reputation if I easily let you in? I have some respect as well."

Only a rogue like Sylas would be able to talk about respect, as it was considered to be shameful to be a rogue. However, Sylas claimed that title proudly and looked down on the packs, acting with his head up on foreign lands.

Judging from Sylas's attitude, one would think they were the invaders, and he was protecting his space.

"Stop joking, Alpha Sylas." The corner of his lips twitched. "You are forcing us here."

Sylas's presence was overbearing, but everything he heard about Sylas was from the rumors. No matter how strong he was, he did not believe Sylas would be able to singlehandedly deal with all the wolves he brought here.

Sylas's smile simply widened.

James was not able to hold back any longer and ordered his wolves to go forward. Under the command of their Alpha, the werewolves had no will but to submit.

As Sylas had werewolves confront him from all sides, he didn't bother to change his form. His paws extended, and he moved forward swiftly— his claws slashed against their vital points. In a flash, the bodies fell on the ground.

Everyone was horrified by how fast his actions were. Although werewolves were essentially bloodthirsty creatures, in the recent years, they have calmed down relatively and were not allowed to take another life without a reason.

At most, they thought it would be a brutal fight. However, they never imagined Sylas would cut off their life line without any consideration.

Sylas stated at the blood on his claws and white shirt. He frowned.

He would have to get rid of another of his favorite shirt.

What a trouble.

"It's dirty. Lucas, deal with the rest," Sylas ordered.

Lucas stared at the Alpha's fussy attitude and shook his head, expecting it. The only reason Sylas murdered a few in the beginning was due to his bloodthirsty that came with the full moon.

There were many times Lucas wanted to complain to the Alpha.

'Just because you do not like getting dirty, does that I do?'

But he didn't dare provoke the beast.

On the other hand, James felt humiliated by Sylas's dismissive behaviour, and unable to hold it back, he transformed into his beastly form, pouncing on Sylas with the intent of hurting him.

Sylas growled— his eyes flashing golden.

"What a bother."

And then, Sylas immediately took his werewolf form. His clothes ripped through, and as James' paw reached his neck, he smacked it off. The next instant, he placed his weight on James, and his claws rest on James's neck, immobilizing him.

James's eyes widened in fear, knowing that Sylas would be capable to taking his life any second now.

And he couldn't even dare to struggle.

As those silver blue eyes stared down at it, he saw the chilling bloodthirst. It made him realize that Sylas's identity in the rumors wasn't exaggerated.

He indeed rose from the bodies of thousands.

He let out a weak growl, taking a submissive position and showing his weakness. James had seen how efficiently Sylas had taken those lives, and he wasn't willing to risk his.

Sylas wished to kill him off, but taking his life would bring him more trouble than needed. For instance, it would automatically make him the Alpha of Yellow Arrow pack, and that burden would be hard to get rid of.

Then, there is the council as well.

There was one thing Sylas feared, and it was having his peaceful life disrupted.

Although James back down, he had a hoarde of stubborn werewolves that were not willing to back down. As Sylas stepped back, Lucas dealt with them.

Lydia already stood there with his clothing prepared for him. Once Sylas was done being dressed, he noticed that the blood on his hand got on his shirt, tainting it again.

When Sylas opened the door, he found Violet standing there— those round hazel eyes staring at him cautiously.

She might have seen what happened outside.
