The Royal Mark-Chapter 355: A Letter to Vrenada
Everyone regrouped in the castle grounds after defeating their enemies. Chris and Nathaniel were carried to the spot by four divine mages who were now just ordinary elemental mages after giving back their holy power to Nathan.
"What happened to you two?" Elandir asked Chris and Nathan who looked defeated even though they were the ones who won against King Mordrak and his demon kingdom.
"I lost control of my wolf again. But Mordrak is gone," Chris replied while still panting a bit.
"Gone? How gone? Is he dead or did he escape?" Elandir clarified but Chris was too tired to explain and had already laid flat on the ground as he tried to regain some strength.
"The devil himself took back his son. There was a portal after Mordrak got knocked down and only the devil himself could open that," Nathan said.
"So he is still alive?! You should’ve made sure that he was dead, like slicing him in half or anything that would ensure his death."
"Hahaha!" Chris caught everyone’s attention with his laugh. "I didn’t know you have that kind of violence in you, Elandir."
"I only reserve for someone like Mor–"
"Milda is gone and we didn’t find Elsa inside the castle." Andrius, Drake, and Hoven’s arrival interrupted their conversation and rest.
"I’m sorry to hear that, Andrius, but your sister is a lost cause. Let’s find my wife. Mordrak mentioned he was chasing her, which meant she didn’t want to proceed with the wedding. Let’s interrogate the demons to find her possible location," Chris suggested.
"There are no more demons left, My King," Hoven interjected.
Chris and the rest frowned, looking at Hoven, waiting for him to continue.
"The mages and werewolves killed them all? That was fast..." Nathan remarked.
"No, they didn’t. When most of them were about to be defeated, numerous black and purple portals appeared as if it was their cue to withdraw from the battle and escape through it. So the only remaining demons here are the ones that had been killed earlier," Hoven replied.
"No, that can’t be. Check the bodies to see if anyone is still alive. We have no clue of my wife’s whereabouts. Find me a horse; I must find Elsa. Neither she nor we know the area around here, and we don’t know what danger she might be in or about to face.
If Mordrak was chasing her when we met him, it means he had just found out, and Elsa must be nearby. Gather any information you can find. Elsa is carrying our second child, and it’s dangerous for her to be running in an unfamiliar place," Chris ordered.
Hoven and the mages quickly dispersed to follow Chris’ orders but Andrius, Drake, and Nathan have a different plan in mind for him.
"Stay here and let us look for her. She’s our family too and we promise to find her," Andrius said to Chris.
"Andrius is right. You are in no state to go and definitely not in good condition to fight. Rest here and regain your strength, which you needed badly. I will go and help them," Nathan told Chris.
"You are in no condition to fight as well. I know that you don’t have any powers left. I felt it when you healed me, so you have no right to stop me from searching for my wife," Chris retorted.
"That’s true but have you forgotten that I have wings? I can help look for her from above, while you can’t shift because of your confused wolf and you’re too weak to use your werewolf abilities. You will just be a burden to all."
"Chris, I also think that you should stay here and lead the rest of the mages and werewolves. The witches will arrive soon, they will need instruction on what do to with the place and everything that’s connected to it," Drake added.
Chris closes his fists tightly, he understands their point but then the person that’s missing is Elsa. He can’t just sit there waiting for other people to report to him news about his wife. He is the husband and he must be on the frontline of the search party.
He felt a strong hand squeeze his shoulder and when he looked at his side it was Elandir with a slight smile on his face.
"I’ll stay here with you and I will open a portal in case they find your wife, so you can be with her right away," Elandir informed Chris.
Chris sighed, with his current state, he is in no position to argue or fight back. They are right and even if he doesn’t want to obey them, that was his only option as of the moment.
Hoven returned with their horses together with some human servants. "King Christopher! I have news!"
Hoven unmounted the horse together with the human servants in Kurzen who bowed immediately to Chris.
"Go, tell the King of Arcanis!" Hoven directed to a female servant.
"Your Majesty, I am one of the servants who receive the meat and vegetables from one of the farms owned by the castle and my husband cleans the cages of the messenger birds. A human servant who farms for the King asked me to send a letter to Vrenada.
I found it suspicious because humans are not allowed to go outside of Kurzen, so it was impossible for him to know anyone in Vrenada. I was scared because I have a family here and he might get me into trouble but I cannot disobey him since he works for the castle.
I asked him what the letter was about and he said that it was a letter to a merchant in Vrenada requesting for rare seeds that the King wanted. He wanted to surprise the King at his wedding that’s why he asked my help to give it to my husband so he can send it to Vrenada.
B-But I heard the chamberlain earlier and they are now after him and his family. Apparently, his daughter and wife were the servants of Queen Elsa. Her wife and the Queen went missing at the same time. S-So I think they are the ones who helped the Queen escape the castle."
"Do you know where they live?" Chris asked.
"Y-Yes!" The woman exclaimed hastily then added, "B-But in one condition. Please spare my family. We are born here and even though we serve the demons, it is only because we have no choice. Please don’t kill my family, my children are young, please, Your Majesty."
"If you want to save your family and all the humans here in Kurzen then the more you need to help me. If the chamberlain and the demon king had already sent someone ahead to chase after my wife then it means she’s in danger. If something bad happens to her and our unborn child then I don’t know what I might do. So to avoid that, help us find her."
The woman nodded and mounted the horse. "Let’s hurry then. Their house is not that far."
Everyone saw the determination in Chris’ eyes as he walked towards the horse that Hoven brought and no one stopped him.
"Chris, I won’t stop you, but you are in no condition to ride by yourself. Let me ride with you," Hoven offered as he extended his hand.
Chris smirked and nodded. He accepted Hoven’s hand who quickly helped him mount the horse. Andrius and Elandir did the same together with Nathan. Drake stayed behind to lead everyone that was left in the castle.
