Chapter 206: Not On A Break

Rory held Ellie close to her chest and hugged her. Liam’s hand wrapped around her shoulder as she was waiting for her flight.

It’s been a couple of weeks after Liam suggested that she visits her homeland alone. And she decided to follow Liam’s advice. She didn’t like Liam’s penthouse and she couldn’t get used to the city atmosphere.

She went to visit her grandmother in their hometown. That place didn’t give much peace to her either. That place reeked of the memories and nightmares she tried to forget. Her grandmother was too far gone. She barely recognized her. The doctors told her that she won’t be with them for even six months and asked them to prepare their hearts.

Liam’s family has been moving forward with difficulties. It was a small town and Lennon’s deeds combined with all the drama had deterred them from approaching the Roberts family.

And in the cave where they found the dead bodies, remains of women who were long dead before Lennon even entered the country were there. And that only confirmed the beliefs of "Mad Roberts" being a serial killer, although there was no concrete evidence supporting that claim.

But they were happy to see Rory as always. And Claire was heavily pregnant. She didn’t have the chance to meet Derick, but Julia was so supportive of her.

Rory was happy she made that visit. But she didn’t have the will to stay there. She was not feeling comfortable there.

"It’s going to be okay," Liam rubbed her arm. "We were fine when you visited your grandmother. Weren’t we, Ellie?" he asked the baby.

The baby cooed with a bright smile.

"Yeah, I know..." Rory let out a sigh.

She asked Liam to care for Ellie for a week when she visited her grandmother to have a trial run on how he would handle it all during her visit to her homeland. And Liam did well. Well, he already had a trial run when she was not engaging with Ellie back when she was in the hospital, so there was little doubt regarding Liam’s experience in taking care of Ellie.

She was not planning on staying in her homeland for long. Two weeks or a month maximum, that’s it. It’s November and the end of autumn. So, it’s practically winter there. But she loved this time of the year back when she lived there.

"Fizzy... I think you are right... Maybe I should go there, take long walks where I walked when I was the happiest and carefree in my life, watch the sky light up with a thousand colors, enjoy that frosty cold, meet the people I once knew... visit my parents’ grave and..." she looked at him.

She’s been convincing herself to be happy with her visit there. And she had almost accepted that she needs this visit. It’s better in the long run.

"But Fizzy, I’d be happy if we go there together," she said. That was her true feeling. She sighed seeing Liam looking at her with a smile.

He reminded her of the long talks they had about this issue. He wanted them to be together for a long time. And he thinks that this break would only strengthen their relationship.

"I’d be there once I finish some of the business dealings that I have to take care of... It is your wish to restore my company," he said.

"Yeah, I asked you to become an emperor and you are asking me to be alone," she mumbled with a pout.

She still was confused. One moment she found that it was a great idea and at another, she’d... She was wavering so much.

"It would be hard for you to take care of Ellie when you have meetings to~"

"Cherry, take a deep breath," Liam consoled her. "It’s fine. Everything will be fine. Now smile a little."

"Alright," Rory said with a pout. "Whatever..."

Liam chuckled. "Trust me, Cherry. You’re going to thank me after your visit there. Ian will pick you up in the airport and you’ll be staying with his parents. Your parents’ house is empty, but Iam said the roof needed some repairs before snow. So..."

"Look who’s become chummy with Ian..." Rory furrowed her brows. "I thought you hated Ian."

"Well," Liam shrugged. "he said he’s dating this girl his parents like. An arranged marriage sort of thing...?" he grinned.

Wait... so he didn’t like Ian because he was jealous? This guy! Guess, somethings never change.

"Yeah, he’s not married. And we are on a break," Rory smiled. She wanted to tease him.

Liam’s smile vanished.

"No..." he pointed his finger at her. "We are not in that kind of break. We--we- we are..." he stuttered as he was stressed.

"Ha!" Rory liked to see him like that. "I’m going to rekindle my childhood love affair. And when you whine, I am going to say that we were on a break, you know, like Ross did in "Friends"."

"No, no... we are not on a break. Cherry, listen..." Liam held her face to look at him. "We are not on a break. You are going on a vacation. That’s it. Vacation. Not a break."

"I don’t know..." Rory shrugged. "I’m pretty sure I heard you say "break" plenty of times..." She giggled.

She teased him until they made the boarding call. Her husband was thoughtful enough to book her a first-class ticket. And this plane had enclosed suites in the first class with beds. She was not worried about the travel.

But she was not feeling good to leave her husband and her baby.

"Fizzy," she hugged him. She didn’t like to see the frown line between his eyes. He is the same as before when he would not realize if she was teasing him or being serious. She didn’t want to leave him worried.

"I’m going to miss you so much," she took in a deep breath. "You too, my sweetie pie... Aww..." she kissed her baby.

Her eyes reddened. She looked around and saw that some of the passengers had recognized them. She pulled her hoodie over her head. Maybe it is better to be away from this attention for some time and enjoy herself.

"Remember," Liam pulled her closer. "We are not on a break," he repeated.

"Yeah," she held his cheeks. "I don’t want a break, Fizzy... I love you," she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek.

That was the first time she kissed him after that night of trauma. And she didn’t want to leave and stay in his embrace longer.

"Count Charles called me the other day. Asked me how I would feel to be adopted by him," Rory said. "He said that would give me the title of "lady" and I will have certain perks considering my dual citizenship...I wanted to talk to you about it after thinking it through."

"Adopt?" Liam raised his brows. "Wouldn’t that make Ian your brother?" he asked.

Rory rolled her eyes. Of course, that was his takeaway from this. What a jealous ball!

"I don’t know. I don’t mind it though. I still haven’t decided yet," she said. "I want to be a Roberts more than being a lady, but...I am married to you and my name is not going to change. I don’t know... I have to think more..." she said.

They made another boarding call and Rory took in a deep breath.

"I’ll call you. Don’t you dare not answer them... And if Ellie needs something or if she misses me, give me a call. I’ll jump in the first flight out of there. And..." her brain stopped working. "Ellie likes eggs a lot these days. But don’t forget to give her vegetables too. And formula... she likes two brands so even if~"

"Cherry... Cherry..." Liam stopped her. "I know all that. I will take good care of Ellie. You take care of yourself too, alright? Don’t skip meals and don’t stay out in the cold for long. Your body must have adjusted to the LA heat and..." he stopped seeing her glaring at him.

"It’s coded in my DNA, Fizzy. I’m meant for the cold. I even have red hair so I would be spotted on snow because otherwise, I’ll blend in with the snow..." she laughed.

Liam hugged her. "Oh, Cherry..." he took a deep whiff of her hair. "I am going to miss you," he said.

"Me too... We can still change our minds, you know..." she looked at him. But then she took a deep breath. She should not keep on oscillating. She’s come this far and the least she could do is enjoy the trip and see where it takes her.

"Fizzy, please take care of yourself, alright? If you can’t handle it all, get help. Mia will help and I can ask help from someone in the group. They’ll babysit Ellie if you’re busy and... Don’t stress yourself much, baby," she kissed his cheek.

"I don’t want you to become an emperor by ruining your health. I’d rather have you healthy and happy than as an emperor," she said.

"Okay," Liam smiled. His eyes watered a bit. "I want to kiss you, Cherry," he pressed his forehead on hers.

He then kissed her forehead.

"Go," he pushed her to the line. "Have a nice journey. I’ll wait for your call."

"Bye," Rory waved her hand. Ellie looked at her with a confused face. Her heart broke to leave but she took determinant steps.

I’m making sure everything changes.
