The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 235: Facing Her Fear
Rory checked herself in the mirror one more time. She is not the one testifying that way, in fact, she is yet to decide whether she should testify against Lennon or not. But she gathered up her courage to be with Liam when he testifies.
Although Liam said that he would be fine, she knew that Liam is nervous. He would like it if she was there. But he will talk about many details she probably doesn’t know yet. He said that the defense team will ask him a lot of questions about the night of Laura Brown’s abduction and murder. That was the day he went with Allison.
Rory knew Allison’s name is going to be brought up a lot of times in his questioning. It will be hard for him to answer them all in front of her. And it would be hard for her to listen. Although, thinking about it, she didn’t find any ill feelings toward Liam.
And Allison is dead. What is she going to do holding on to grudges forever? It will be hurting them both if she holds on to grudges moving forward. Liam slipped, but he didn’t even fall. He wiped himself and came back to her. That’s all she needs to focus on.
Liam chose not to cheat and came back to her.
Also, it would be the same for her if she decides to testify against Lennon. They are not going to pull any punches and they will ask many tough questions. That is one of the reasons she does not want to be there to recall that dreadful night once more. Not in front of Liam.
She talked to Liam about it and asked if she should stay home and not listen to anything about his testimony.
But he wanted her there. And so, not minding anything else, she decided to go with Liam.
"Shall we?" Liam walked to her wearing his watch. "You look pretty," he kissed her cheek. "You didn’t have to wear formal wear though. Something like a business casual would have been enough."
"I know..." Rory made a swirl and looked in the mirror. "But I do rock the pencil skirt, don’t you think? What do you say? I am much better looking than the office ladies working in your company, don’t I?" she wriggled her brows and held his hands.
They were chilly. She held his hands between hers and blew in them to warm them.
"It will be fine, Fizzy. You are going to do great," she hugged him.
Liam wrapped his arms around her back. "I know... It’s just... I can’t stop thinking about my mom and..." he sighed.
"It’s fine to think about her. And although we decided not to expose what happened to her, we can get justice for her, and many women like her who were his victims. So... be strong, my love," she rubbed his back.
"You’ll have me no matter what," she added.
Whether he succeeds or fails, she will be where she is, waiting for his return.
Liam smiled. Of course, no matter what, she is going to be there for him. He doesn’t have to be nervous.
Liam helped her wear the blazer. He lingered to watch her walk away. That little slit at the back of the skirt revealed her toned calves and made his heart skip a beat. Her perfect apple butt swayed side to side as she took each step forward with the click of her pumps.
He’s never realized that business formal could be this sexy. But any dress turns sexy when it’s on his wife. His wife has that tendency to turn any outfit glamorous.
He ran to her and held her beautiful hand. He wanted her support, but there was another reason he wanted her with him.
She aspired to become a lawyer until some months ago. But because of the unnecessary drama, he caused, she doesn’t want to study law anymore. He gets that she wants to be a stay-at-home mom, but that would be a waste of her capabilities. She is the smarter one of the two. She cannot spend the rest of her life cooking and cleaning.
If she watches a real courtroom in action, if she watches how the prosecutors and the defense lawyers are enjoying themselves doing what they love to do, she might change her mind.
He hoped that she changes her mind. She doesn’t have to get a job to support the family, but she can do so if she loves to do it even for free. He feared that she might regret her decision to pursue her education in the future after Ellie grows up and she is alone in the house.
Rory gulped seeing the big gang of reporters who were occupying the sides of the road to the courthouse. Near the courthouse, the cops had to set a barricade to keep the reporters and other onlookers away.
Maybe because they were not expecting Rory to attend the court that day, there were thousands of flashes that went off the moment she stepped down from the car. She regretted not accepting the sunglasses Liam offered her.
Liam opened the door for her, and he had to hold her hand and guide her along the way.
They were shouting her name and asking her questions. She couldn’t even understand what anyone was asking because they all talked over each other. She turned to look at them but then immediately looked forward. They all were lunging at her and pushing each other trying to get a shot of her and trying to get the microphone to her.
Is this what being a celebrity feels like? It’s awful!
She could see why they say that most of the stars are narcissists. To put up with this much attention wherever they go must need a special case of fortitude. She surely lacks that.
She looked at her hand and smiled. Liam was holding her hand tightly. She looked at his face. Wearing his sunglasses, he was walking forward as if he was unbothered by those pesky people who were screaming at him.
Well, then there are people like my husband who are born to attract attention and still could be unbothered by it all. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
She walked beside him with her back straight. Wherever she is, she would be happy if she is walking with Liam.
Liam was brought to a room for discussing the questions of that day. Liam brought her with him although the lawyers asked him not to. He told them that she knows everything, and she will stay.
Rory was very proud of her husband. But then, he was always this way. He never ignores her wherever they go. He will have an eye for her.
One of the youngest members of the production team--a woman who looked like she was fresh out of law school. She must have been older than Rory and yet she looked young. She talked to Rory about testifying against Lennon. It appeared that she was tasked to convince Rory by her superiors.
Rory did not like that she was talking to her calling her "ma’am". Seriously, just because she is a mother, doesn’t mean she will be treated as an old lady by someone older than her.
And so the prosecution team changed tactics. She didn’t know if they know about her weakness. But that woman was replaced with a dark-haired man with brown eyes.
Boy, did he have a smooth tongue!
Rory was listening to him while Liam was being briefed. She felt Liam’s glare on her and only then she realized that she’s been laughing more than she should. She ignored Matt and went to sit by her husband obediently.
"What a bother," Liam kissed Rory’s cheeks.
Maybe it’s fine if she wants to stay at home. There are flies everywhere. And his sexy wife is the forbidden fruit who could attract flies from across seven seas and seven mountains.
But then he sighed. He felt guilty for thinking this way.
"Matt, my wife wants to become a lawyer. Why don’t you talk to her more about it?" Liam told the guy. If that guy could convince her to become a lawyer, that would be good too.
Rory only then realized what her husband has been planning all along.
"Matt is good. Do you remember the case involving that corrupt real estate company? Matt was the one who brought them down. You should talk to him," Liam told Rory.
Rory nodded awkwardly. Liam is making it apparent that he wants her to try and think about her decision. But she has already thought about it.
And even if she changes her mind, she can enter law school whenever she wants to. It’s not like she will lose her chance forever if she misses it now.
But since Liam insisted, she decided to listen to Matt. She knew her mind will waver once she learns that prosecutors have the power to bring corrupt people to justice.
But does she want to change her mind?
