The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 86: Society Is Complicated
On the third day of the National Day holiday, Nancy Miller came to find Holly Sawyer, her demeanor unusually frazzled instead of its usual aloofness.
Leo Grant had gone to work, leaving Holly alone at home.
"Sister..."
Nancy’s expression was anxious, biting her lip lightly, seeming as if she wanted to speak but was hesitant.
She appeared to be afraid of something.
"Hmm, what is it?"
Holly looked at Nancy, her voice calm and steady.
"I..."
Nancy clutched her hands tightly, unable to utter anything further for a long time.
Her demeanor was particularly frantic, as if she had encountered something significant.
"I killed someone..."
After what seemed like ages, Nancy finally squeezed out those four words, looking at Holly with terror, as though she was about to cry.
Though she had a cold personality, she was still completely flustered in the face of such matters.
"What’s going on?"
Holly frowned, staring intently at Nancy.
Nancy was never someone who acted impulsively; she was extremely calm, both in her nature and actions, so there must be a substantial reason behind this.
"Sister, you know I love dance, I love this profession."
"A couple of days ago, I saw a job advertisement for a stunt double for the leading actress in a TV drama, with a high wage. My physical traits are quite similar to the lead actress, so I applied, and I was accepted."
"I don’t care about the opportunity to be in the spotlight; I simply wanted this chance, but, but..."
As Nancy spoke up to this point, she suddenly choked up and hung her head, sobbing.
"Did they try to exploit you?"
Though Holly’s words were phrased as a question, her tone was undeniably certain.
Nancy was very pretty; without even mentioning her looks, Nancy, as a dance student, possessed a physique many admired.
Beauty and elegance don’t often coincide.
Nancy was the elegant type of beauty one expects from a dance student, which was unavoidable.
"Sister, you guessed it?"
Nancy looked at Holly with some surprise.
"The person in charge said if I spent one night with him, I’d be given the main role. I wasn’t at all interested in the role anyway, and besides, I’m not that kind of person. I refused."
"He said I was playing hard to get and then tried to force himself on me. I certainly wasn’t going to comply, and then a struggle broke out, and I was so terrified."
"I grabbed a vase and smashed it over his head; he passed out and seemed to not be breathing. I panicked, so I ran..."
Nancy’s tears fell rapidly, and she clutched her hands tightly, deeply frightened.
Though she was the eldest daughter of the Miller Family, despite her dislike of her father and rarely being at home, she lived without worries, growing up cherished.
Such treacherous social situations were never something she had encountered or dealt with before.
"Are you sure he’s dead?"
Holly lowered her gaze, asking gently, her tone calm.
Well, if he wasn’t dead, she could finish the job.
"I think so..."
Nancy’s tone was uncertain.
She was used to keeping to herself, without friends, and certainly couldn’t tell her mother, so Holly was the only person she could confess to.
She was scared, scared Holly might...
"Which crew is it?"
Holly took out her phone, her demeanor unruffled.
"The person in charge is Isaac Walker; it’s just an online drama, not well-known."
Nancy thought hard about the crew’s name but really couldn’t remember it right then.
The crew wasn’t a famous drama, just an online show, rumored to have backing from investors, so it wasn’t short of funds.
Since it had many dancing scenes involving the lead actress, who hadn’t learned dance, they decided to find a stunt double.
Nancy saw this as an opportunity, which is why she wanted to give it a shot. The pay was also high.
She didn’t care about having her face appear when the drama aired; she cared only about whether people liked her dancing.
She had always had an obsession with dance, hoping for recognition from others. Not knowing her wasn’t important, as long as her dance was appreciated.
Since childhood, she had won many awards; every time she stood on stage to receive them, her heart filled with excitement and joy.
The feeling of being acknowledged was indeed wonderful.
"Don’t worry, don’t think too much about it."
Holly said gently, her gaze towards Nancy soft.
Such matters, she could handle, so Nancy needn’t worry at all.
"Sister, I’m scared..."
Nancy bit her lip tightly, looking at Holly.
She truly felt frightened, clueless about what to do in such situations.
Entering society newly, one remains naive, and despite her usual calm demeanor, she would feel panic when encountering the world’s malice.
"Don’t worry, I’ll settle it for you."
Holly gently patted Nancy’s hand.
"In the future, if you encounter such issues, report to the police first, or call me."
Holly looked at Nancy, speaking earnestly.
She and Nancy were different; she’d been through society long enough to understand many things and could handle them.
Nancy, however, was different; before college, she was merely a high school student unaware of many things, her daily life revolving around studies, with societal issues blurry and unclear.
"Okay, I understand."
Nancy nodded.
"Sister, if he really died, will I have to go to prison?"
Thinking about this, Nancy suddenly became frightened, glancing at Holly with fear in her eyes.
She was very scared.
Yet, if given another chance, she would not hesitate to smash the vase over Isaac Walker’s head once more.
But the fear was real; nobody would like the cold and grim confines of a jail cell.
Moreover, once this stain appears on her record, her life would be ruined, hindering many pursuits, potentially stripping her of opportunities to shine brightly on stage.
"You won’t, I’ll handle this; don’t overthink it. I won’t let anything happen to you."
Holly poured Nancy a cup of warm milk, speaking tenderly.
Nancy gripped the cup tightly in her hands, staring at Holly.
Holly seemed to exude a kind of magic; hearing Holly’s words, she felt considerably at ease.
She always subconsciously trusted Holly.
"This world is very realistic; in this huge melting pot of society, all kinds of people exist. Don’t conclude society is friendly just because you’ve met good people at the start."
"The world is complex, and this has never been a secret, or perhaps it’s not society that is complex but rather human hearts."
Holly spoke slowly, her expression exceptionally earnest, advising Nancy.
Nancy didn’t understand, but Holly did, and she understood much.
