The SSS Ranked Demon King Goes to the Hero Academy-Chapter 44: Jeremy’s interruption. (1)
Aku had never felt anything like that.
It was his first time tasting food, a strange but pleasant sensation.
The demon king felt an emotion different from what he felt when fighting, however the happiness that tasting that food gave him was comparable.
Aku almost felt he was losing control being carried away by those emotions.
Though it wasn’t the same as when he let himself be controlled by anger and grabbed Sylvie by the neck.
It was a different type of lack of control.
However, something interrupted that trance he was experiencing thanks to the food.
Someone had entered.
"What’s up, bitches!?" Jeremy shouted as he kicked the cafeteria door, entering the room. "This is the cafeteria? Damn it smells good. My appetite’s opened up."
The demon king turned to observe who had entered.
He was a tall man with dark skin styled with dreadlocks. He was tall with a muscular build.
The man was dressed in military camouflage attire with leather boots.
Though Aku himself didn’t know that outfit was military, the demon king actually found it quite exotic.
Still, what the demon king did deduce was that that man had passed the qualifying trial, something that could be deduced from Jeremy’s body language.
He had an arrogant smile, puffed chest, and confident attitude that wasn’t worthy of someone who had failed an exam.
And Aku was right.
Jeremy was the mecha user. While he had been defeated by the Silver Dragon of the West, he had demonstrated enough potential to be admitted.
His power was very great after all.
Jeremy began walking toward the bar with a smile under the demon king’s analytical gaze.
Aku certainly wasn’t entirely happy with that interruption, but he wasn’t going to say anything about it either.
The demon king decided to stop giving importance to the man and returned his attention to his brownie.
It looked very appetizing after all.
It was undoubtedly much more interesting than the man who had just arrived.
However, Jeremy had already noticed Aku’s gaze.
A gaze that he didn’t like, and at the same time liked.
Jeremy had interpreted that gaze as one of contempt or condescension, something that clearly didn’t amuse him.
However, Jeremy was someone addicted to conflict, so he wasn’t going to waste an "opportunity" like that.
The man sat right in the seat next to Aku.
"Look how good that looks," the man said, referring to the demon king’s brownie.
Before Aku could react, the man had already extended his arm and caught the brownie between his fingers.
The demon king looked at that with confusion.
Was it normal for a random person to come in and steal someone’s food?
Aku knew he wasn’t aware of human customs.
But he also had no intention of following them to the letter.
Still, Aku didn’t move when Jeremy brought the brownie to his mouth and devoured it.
"Mmmm, delicious! Now this is a good fucking brownie," the man mocked as he smiled arrogantly, watching Aku’s reaction.
Jeremy already knew how it worked. It was one of his favorite hobbies.
When he was a hero in another world he always did the same thing. He’d enter a bar and observe the reaction of those who entered.
That reaction determined whether they became good prey or not.
Aku had reacted just as Jeremy expected, looking at him with defiance and contempt.
Or at least that’s what he had interpreted. The truth was the reality was different.
Now Aku would make a scene about what Jeremy had done, or on the contrary would stay quiet and scared by what Jeremy had done.
However, the demon king didn’t react in either of those ways.
Aku simply looked Jeremy in the eyes with an indifference and coldness that made Jeremy slightly nervous.
It was uncommon for someone to say nothing but at the same time not feel fear. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
And the reason was that Aku wasn’t looking at Jeremy with hatred but with confusion.
However, while he didn’t like Jeremy’s behavior, Aku also didn’t want to make a scene in the cafeteria.
The first point was that Aku didn’t want to draw attention. If someone discovered he was actually a demon king, it would be very bad for him.
Aku didn’t know how others would react, but it surely wouldn’t be good.
Though the most important reason was that if he fought with Jeremy in the middle of the cafeteria, he would endanger the food in it.
Yes, the demon king didn’t want the food to be spoiled by a simple fight.
After all, it wasn’t like that brownie had cost him money.
Aku simply turned back around, completely ignoring Jeremy.
"Could you give me another brownie please, Claire," Aku asked calmly, looking at the waitress.
The woman seemed quite uncomfortable and nervous about the situation that was occurring, however when Aku said those words to her, she calmed down and gave him a smile.
"Of course! Right away," the woman said more relaxed as she served Aku the brownie.
Jeremy looked at the demon king with bewilderment.
Aku hadn’t gotten angry and hadn’t been scared by him either.
Part of Jeremy admired that Aku had that self-control and maturity.
But another part of him felt frustrated and embarrassed at being ignored like that.
And unfortunately, that part was what took control.
Jeremy raised his arm and put it on Aku’s shoulder.
Unfortunately for him, Aku had armor, so he couldn’t try to hurt him by squeezing his shoulder, but at least he could get his attention.
"Hey you, albino monkey," the man said with annoyance and rage, but trying to maintain composure while feigning a smile. "Do you have a name or do you not mind if I call you that?"
That was an infallible tactic.
With that question there were only two possible reactions: one that the target would cower and accept the pseudonym Jeremy had given him, and another that the target would get angry with Jeremy.
However, Aku completely ignored Jeremy and put the brownie in his mouth.
The sweetness and the contrast between the softness of the cake and the crunchiness of the nuts inside the brownie were almost magical.
The demon king felt happy again as he ignored Jeremy, who was losing patience.
