[Amara’s POV]

"All in agreement, please raise your hand," she stated, looking at the rest of her members surrounding the roundtable.

However, when no one raised their hand, her brows furrowed in frustration.

"Look... Amara, I know how this seems, but things like that happen all the time," Marcus began, trying to persuade her, with Sophia chiming in.

"What he said. We can’t just destroy the academy just because Neraxis was almost harmed."

But Amara was not convinced.

"And? Did you see what happened after they got sucked in? The staff didn’t react, and one of his classmates sent a distress call to the government."

Looking around, she noticed the others were still hesitant, clearly against her plan.

This is ridiculous, she thought, slamming the table with her fist gently.

One of their members nearly dying in a mere accident wasn’t what she expected to hear first thing in the morning.

Better yet, it was Neraxis—the newest and most promising recruit she’d had in years.

It wasn’t like she couldn’t see reason and listen to her members; however, what sort of coincidence was it that, right after she paid a visit to William, Neraxis was sent into a dangerous rift?

That snarky old man still doesn’t want to cooperate. Amara snickered to herself before leaning back in her seat.

Noticing the growing unease on their faces, she heaved a sigh before saying, "I want this investigated."

Just as her words fell, the silent Sarah stood up, immediately expressing her willingness to proceed with the investigation.

Amara did not refuse her; after all, Sarah was the most skilled scout in this world.

"Go ahead. If William Whiltfrow refuses to cooperate, mention my name."

With a nod, Sarah suddenly disappeared from their surroundings, heading back into the real world.

Each member had a way to access and leave this realm, except Neraxis, of course.

He’s still far from earning it, she thought before taking a glance at Sophia, the one who enjoyed teasing others.

Yet when serious situations called for it, her playful nature quickly disappeared.

Amara stretched out her hand. "Progress report."

Right as her words fell, a stack of papers appeared in her hand.

Placing most of them down and taking the bottom-most one, she read through it.

However, the contents were not what she expected. A deeper frown appeared on her face.

"They are within arm’s reach, huh... just a few more years," she said in an exhausted tone before picking up the topmost note, which detailed the progress of Neraxis.

The note only had a few sentences, and most were very vague, barely providing insight.

But that was enough. The main message was: He is getting stronger.

"Good job, Sophia," Amara stated, putting the notes back into place before making them disappear.

She then turned toward Marcus, the misfit of their group.

However, there was a very clear reason why he was with them, and that’s because—

"How’s your position in Eternal Night coming along?"

He put on an arrogant smirk before stating, "I’m an Officer now. Just three more positions, and I can gain access to higher-quality intel."

"I see..." Amara absentmindedly nodded. "Keep up the good work."

Her words fell, and immediately, both Sophia and Marcus disappeared.

She was left all alone again, with the exception of Delta, who was likely still lurking around somewhere.

But with loneliness also came benefits.

I haven’t gone sightseeing in a while, she thought, swinging her sword vertically and materializing a small portal, through which she immediately went.

There was no distortion since she was used to it, and upon getting to the other side, a massive mountain range covered entirely in snow greeted her eyes.

Before her, there was a small metallic hatch—one that would go unnoticed by most.

But not me, she declared inwardly before pointing her sword downward and forcing it open.

A narrow space came into view, followed by a ladder leading downwards, which she opted to completely ignore by jumping straight down.

The fall took a few seconds longer than expected, but upon arriving below, she was met with another solid door, which she forced open like the hatch.

Inside, she saw two green capsules and scientists in lab coats injecting strange chemicals into them.

They immediately panicked and started fleeing upon seeing her, but before they could get too far, their heads went flying, leaving only one alive.

Amara slowly walked up to the scientist, starting at him with an icy glare before saying,

"How long has this lab been operational?"

The moment she asked the question, the scientist’s eyes began to blur until, eventually, he looked back at her with a blank expression.

Hmm... I guess they improved their mind-boggling. How vile. She scoffed, seeing that the life from the man’s eyes was starting to disappear.

Deciding it would be best to end it quickly, she slashed her sword, and his life came to an end.

Taking a look around, she tried spotting any new irregularities, but there were none—only the morphed beings inside the green liquid capsules.

"Can either of you hear me?" Amara called out, but, as always, no response came.

Once again, she was too late—or perhaps, not late enough.

One thing was certain: the chimeras before her had their brains taken apart and tinkered with. If she had arrived later, she might have been able to converse with them.

But alas, she saw no success in any of her attempts, some even dating back two years.

Since there was nothing more she could do other than let them die from starvation, Amara swung her sword horizontally, swiftly cutting the two chimeras in half.

Before the green liquid could ooze onto her, she disappeared again, reappearing back near the roundtable.

This time, there was a certain horned being sitting on its edge, seemingly waiting for someone.

"Delta," Amara immediately addressed her with respect and received a response in kind.

"Welcome back, First Veil. Has your journey been fruitful?"

She shook her head. "Same as usual. I just wish something was different. I am busy enough as it is."

"That is the burden of the First Veil. Keep up with it, and you shall receive what you are looking for," Delta said cryptically, making Amara’s brow rise in amusement.

"What I’m looking for, huh? I doubt the solution is on this world, but even if it isn’t, I can always try again next time."

"You have time," Delta stated before hopping off the roundtable and walking up to her.

"So much time that you can continue making mistakes."

But Amara thought otherwise. "I’m tired, Delta. This time around is already different. I didn’t get the Stellar Dominion skill—Neraxis got it instead."

However, no consolation or answer came. Instead, there was only silence.

Which, knowing Delta’s nature, was unusual.

Soon, she spoke again, her tone serious. "Amara, I think it’s time you stopped relying purely on yourself. While he is a weakling for now, when the time finally comes, he will be strong enough."

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Amara grabbed her sword and swung at the air, opening a portal.

"I’m going sightseeing again. I’ll be back soon."

But just before she left, Delta’s final words resounded, "Once you are back, I will help you train."

Huh? Amara’s head flicked back, her eyes wide.

However, Delta had already vanished, leaving the flustered Amara behind.

She’s going to do what...?
