Chapter 185: Chapter 185: You Have a Greater Chance

"Sandra, what are you doing?"

James Brown placed his hands on the counter, maintaining a standing posture without moving, and asked Emily Lopez with a bitter smile. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

Emily Lopez had already laid her head on James’s back, gently rubbed her face against it twice, and said, "I’m not doing anything. I can’t help you with cooking, so all I can do is use this method to make you a bit happier."

"Stop it, if you keep this up, your sister will come in and kill me."

Emily Lopez didn’t let go, saying, "Why be afraid of her? I just like my brother-in-law, and I want to hug him. What can she do about it?"

"It’s not about what I can do, Sandra. I won’t stop you from doing this, but I can tell you very clearly, I’m not joking with you right now, I’ve made up my mind, and I’m determined to make it work. He can only be your brother-in-law in this life. If you think an intimacy like this is appropriate for a little sister-in-law and brother-in-law, then I won’t stop you either."

Gina Lopez’s voice came from behind the two, not angry but rather calm. Yet, within that calmness, her strong determination was evident.

James had anticipated that when Emily did this, Gina would definitely come in, so he wasn’t surprised to hear Gina speak, but he felt somewhat surprised that she was so calm.

Emily Lopez’s hands didn’t let go of James, but she did stand up straight, creating some distance from his back. Flicking her head back, she said to Gina, "So just because you’re determined, that’s it? Brother-in-law is a person, not an object. If you want brother-in-law, he has to agree too."

Gina’s tone was as calm as ever, "I don’t care if he is an object or not. I, Gina Lopez, have never failed at anything I’ve set my mind to, and this time will be no exception."

Emily Lopez pursed her lips dismissively, "Hmph, then you’re treating brother-in-law like an object. Relationships are about mutual affection. You might be earnest about it, but if brother-in-law doesn’t feel the same way, it’s useless."

James Brown stretched out his hands, shouting, "Stop!" He then pried Emily’s hands off, turned his head to glare at both of them, his eyes filled with frustration, and said, "Could the two of you please not use things to make analogies about me?"

Gina Lopez and Emily Lopez were momentarily stunned, then Gina said, "Oh, I didn’t start this, it was Sandra who said you’re not an object."

"I didn’t say brother-in-law is not an object, I said he is an object... Ah, you’re twisting my words!" Gina tried to explain, but as she did, it sounded even more like she was insulting James, and she glared angrily at her sister.

"Alright, alright, you two young ladies, do you still want to eat or not? If you want to eat, then both of you get out. I don’t have the Martial Arts Skills to deal with you two wealthy young ladies." He pushed the two out of the kitchen without further explanation, then decisively shut the sliding door to prevent further disturbance.

The kitchen’s sliding door wasn’t soundproof, and James could still hear Gina and Emily bickering outside. Emily was huffing with anger, while Gina spoke in an indifferent tone.

Shaking his head, James turned on the flame and the exhaust fan, so he wouldn’t have to hear the noise outside. He found it all somewhat absurd. He had pretended to be Gina’s boyfriend once, and now it seemed he had to play for real, even getting the twin sister involved. Was this like a sale at the mall, buy one get one free?

As he was cooking, the kitchen’s sliding door was pulled open again, and Sunny Nguyen walked in. Facing Sunny, James felt no pressure—Sunny’s thoughts were much more mature than Gina’s or Emily’s, and from the beginning, the two had a clear understanding without any burdens.

"That smells good; it looks like I’m in for a treat tonight." Sunny stood next to James, sniffing delicately and smacking her lips, mimicking the gesture of swallowing saliva.

A beauty is a beauty indeed, even swallowing saliva becomes a charming gesture. If some young guys saw this, they’d probably be filled with fantasies.

Without stopping his hands, James smiled and said, "Yeah, it’s good you came. Otherwise, I’d be scared to even be near these sisters."

Sunny suddenly laughed, "Lisa Smith, what are you scared of? This is a great stroke of luck."

"Quit teasing me. I don’t want to become a tool for those sisters’ rivalry. If it weren’t for my girlfriend still being in college, I’d have fled with her long ago."

"No way, is it really that bad?" Sunny’s eyes widened in surprise.

"I’ll have to stay somewhere, and I just want to live an easy life. If things get too hard, of course I’ll consider changing environments."

Sunny’s mouth twitched slightly before she replied, "You’ve got powerful friends now; it’s an excellent opportunity for growth. If you leave here, you won’t have such a good chance again."

James knew Sunny was referring to Linda Campbell. Thinking about the cigarettes Linda gave him, he felt quite reluctant to leave them behind. If he were to leave YODC City now, he’d probably never have another chance to get such cigarettes again.

"Besides, whether it’s Gina or Sandra, it’s not your fault they like you, and liking someone doesn’t necessarily lead to anything. Everyone can just be friends and take it from there."

Listening to Sunny trying to persuade him, James laughed lightly and said, "Why do I get the feeling that you don’t want me to leave?"

Sunny’s face flushed with a hint of red, and she glanced at James, saying somewhat sourly, "What would I miss? I’m nothing to you. You wouldn’t think of me even if you did think of someone."

James Brown laughed awkwardly. There really was no further comment he could make on this matter. Saying too much would only muddle the relationship between the two of them even more.

Fortunately, Sunny Nguyen also recognized this problem. She hit James lightly and teased, "You little rascal, don’t worry. I won’t cling to you shamelessly. Even if you want to find me in the future, I might not even agree."

James actually felt a bit embarrassed by what Sunny said. The time he spent with Sunny indeed brought him joy, and she wasn’t like the women he used to meet in bars. She had class, her emotions weren’t fickle, and having a one-night stand with her could only be called an accident. Now that they were still colleagues, putting an end to it was not so simple, and it made James feel like he was being a bit of a jerk.

"What’s wrong? Are you feeling a bit guilty?" Sunny asked with a smile.

James forced a chuckle and said, "You hit the nail on the head. I do feel a bit sorry for you."

Sunny blinked and said, "Well, that’s great. When I’m feeling lonely, you can come and keep me company."

James met Sunny’s gaze and finally shook his head, saying, "I can’t do that now. I can’t betray my girlfriend."

Sunny’s face stiffened initially, but she quickly smiled and lightly punched James’s shoulder, "I never thought you, a guy who flits around bars having one-night stands, could become so faithful once you’re really in love. I’m actually impressed."

Realizing Sunny wasn’t truly upset, James relaxed and joked, "Before, I had no emotional attachment, so I was driven by physical needs. Now that I’m in love, I need to exercise some restraint."

Sunny laughed softly, "Given that, I haven’t misjudged you. If it weren’t for Gina thinking things through, I might have actually tried to compete."

James laughed heartily, "Then you’d definitely have a better chance than her."

Sunny spat at James and chided, "And you think you’re such a treasure that everyone should fight over you?"

James just finished stir-frying a dish and placed it on a plate, saying with a smile, "Isn’t that the case?"

Sunny pursed her lips but knew it was an undeniable fact. The Twins, Gina and Sandra, had stopped getting along because of James. Plus, it seemed that every girl who had come into contact with James was quite fond of him.

After pinching James, Sunny laughed and said, "I really can’t figure it out. How does a guy with no money and no power have such good luck with the ladies?"

"It’s all because of my personal charm."

"You’re really thick-skinned."

"Alright, Sunny, as the thin-skinned Chief Smith, could you help me bring the dishes to the table? Here I am, a big guy, serving three women. Talk about injustice."

After preparing the meals, James left the kitchen and saw Gina and Sandra still glaring at each other on the sofa, obviously still at odds. Sunny elbowed James and teased, "You really are charming."

James grinned to himself, feeling quite pleased. After all, making two stunning women like Gina and Sandra jealous over him was something any man would be proud of, especially since Gina was a company executive, which made it all the more noteworthy.

"Hey, have you two had enough? Dinner’s ready," James called out, then took a seat at the table.

Sandra immediately jumped up, ignoring her sister, and rushed to the table, sitting beside James. She said with a grin, "Brother-in-law, it smells so good."

"Do I smell that good?" James raised his arm and sniffed it.

Sandra giggled, leaned in close to James with her face less than ten centimeters away from his, took a light sniff, and said with a smile, "It’s not fragrant, but it’s not stinky either."

Gina approached too, and seeing Sandra so close to James, she frowned slightly but didn’t say much. She sat on the other side of James, gave him a slight smile, and said, "James, I really appreciate you doing this."

James smiled, "It’s been quite the hassle, indeed."

Sandra took James’s arm and provocatively said to Gina, "It’s all because of you. If it wasn’t for you, Brother-in-law and I wouldn’t have to go through all this trouble. You’ve ruined the perfect candlelight dinner."

Gina, still poised in front of James, picked up her chopsticks calmly, took a bite of food, and after chewing thoughtfully, she complimented, "The food James makes is delicious. For these culinary skills alone, I won’t concede to you."

Sandra immediately snorted and said, "Who needs your concession? I don’t believe I can’t beat you."
