The Sweet Life of Superstar and His Goddess Wife-Chapter 538: Mother-in-law in danger
After sending off Zhengtong, Mu Mingyu was somewhat unhappy.
"Old Madam, she went so far; why don’t we tell my uncle and aunt?"
Mu Qiuniang gently shook her head. "There are some things that I cannot say, and neither can you, as my person."
He was her person? Although Mu Mingyu always thought of himself this way, hearing it directly from her made him secretly happy.
"Then... just let Zhengtong bully you like this?"
They were eager to be worshipped, yet they were bullied by outsiders, which felt somewhat displeasing.
"Before this, I always had Jingshu protect her, to prevent any accidents. Now, she has walked out of our protective circle on her own, who knows what might happen." Mu Qiuniang said calmly.
Mu Mingyu froze for a moment. "The people protecting her, have they been withdrawn?"
Mu Qiuniang shook her head, silent.
There’s no need to withdraw; just give the other party an opportunity.
Zhengtong had a falling out with Mu Qiuniang, extremely angry. If she didn’t want her son to know she secretly met Mu Qiuniang, she would’ve called him long ago.
How could a daughter-in-law have such a cold attitude towards her mother-in-law?
Acting all high and mighty, as if the whole world meant nothing to her; this is not being a daughter-in-law, but rather a deity.
Jiang Nuo, what were you thinking? Finding such a woman to keep on a pedestal?
What Zhengtong didn’t know was that, in a sense, she was right!
Isn’t Mu Qiuniang the "ancestral matriarch" of the Mu family?
She got into a taxi. "To XXX Road, XXX number."
"Sure thing, pretty lady." The driver hit the pedal, and the taxi sped off.
"Actually, I don’t usually take taxis; we have a family driver. But today, I was so confused by my daughter-in-law’s anger that I forgot to call him, and I didn’t want to wait, so I took a taxi." Zhengtong grumbled, face stern, as she was in a bad mood.
"I could tell from the look on your face that you weren’t happy, did your daughter-in-law anger you? It’s common these days; all us parents have been upset by our sons and daughters-in-law." The driver, cap pulled low, glanced back occasionally in the rearview mirror when Zhengtong wasn’t paying attention.
"Your son is married too?"
"Yes, married for many years now."
"Really? I thought your child was still young. Any grandchildren yet?"
"Not yet, they don’t want kids."
"These young people nowadays, that’s how they are. If you manage them too much, they find it annoying, but if you don’t, you worry about them straying. It’s hard to know what to do."
"Aren’t all young people like this now? Someday they’ll learn from suffering more."
"But by then, it’s too late." Zhengtong sighed. "My daughter-in-law is just like an iceberg—everyone she meets gets the cold shoulder, never a smile to be seen, it’s frustrating. I don’t understand my son’s taste, he didn’t choose someone warm and considerate. Anything you say, she gives you attitude until you’re fuming, and it serves you right."
"Is it really that bad? No matter how excessive, she’s still your daughter-in-law."
"How not? I’m practically spitting blood from the anger she causes; just mentioning her gets my blood boiling. If she hadn’t given me two adorable grandchildren, I would’ve wanted my son to divorce her."
"You can’t do that. No matter what, you have grandchildren now. We have to bear it because that’s what parents do."
"You’re right; because we are parents, this suffering feels deserved. I’m telling you, seeing my daughter-in-law is like seeing the old matriarch of our family. You have to treat her like a deity. What kind of daughter-in-law acts like this?"
...
Zhengtong was in the back seat of the taxi, venting to the driver.
Despite his cool exterior, the driver was chatty and occasionally interjected, stirring the conversation.
Once Zhengtong started, she couldn’t stop. Especially since this driver was so responsive, letting her pour out the grievances from being separated from her son for over 20 years, the guilt of not raising him, and then having a deity-like daughter-in-law once he was back.
She felt the greatest worry of her life was her son.
Despite many things being for his own good, he thought she was harming him and wouldn’t listen. Who creates these troubles, isn’t it vexing?
"Ah... being brought up by your side, raised personally, is truly different." Zhengtong lamented, glancing out the window. "Hey, Master, did you take the wrong route? Why do I feel the scenery seems off?"
"No, this is the right way."
"I’m heading to XXX District, XXX Road. Master, do you know the way? Should we use GPS? I’m in a bit of a hurry; I have to catch a flight tonight after meeting someone."
"Aren’t you meeting Lady Dongfang? She’s not at the tea garden; she intends to meet you at another location."
"How did you know I was meeting Lady Dongfang?" Zhengtong grew suspicious.
It seemed she never mentioned this. She only gave an address.
"I’m Lady Dongfang’s person; once I heard the address, I knew."
Zhengtong’s heart skipped a beat. "You say you’re her person? If you’re her person, why drive a taxi?"
And coincidentally, she ended up in his car.
"The plan was to kidnap you, but since you’re going willingly, it saves me the trouble."
"Kid... kidnap? Why? Why would she want to kidnap me? No, I want to get out of the car. Stop the car; I need to get out."
"Sorry, from the moment you got in this car, you lost the choice."
"If you push me, I’ll jump out." Zhengtong was agitated, threatening him.
But he wasn’t buying it. "I don’t care; Lady Dongfang didn’t specify whether to bring a living person or a corpse."
Zhengtong was petrified. She swallowed hard. "You, would you kill? Are you an assassin?"
The driver didn’t answer.
Zhengtong took his silence as confirmation. "Why does Lady Dongfang want to kidnap me? What is she planning? Does she want to kill me?"
Oh my god!
Does that woman want to kill her to avenge Yan Shanchuan and Yan Hao?
But it was she who put Yan Shanchuan in prison. Yan Hao was killed by her.
If she wants revenge, she should find the murderer.
